Water Island is the fourth U.S.Virgin Island and has none of the commercial trappings that the other three Virgin Islands have. Located a short seven minute passenger ferry boat ride from St. Thomas ($4.50 each way per person) it has the best of both worlds. Enjoy the peace and quiet and safety of Water Island but be able to go to St. Thomas for all that it has to offer. There is a beautiful beach called Honeymoon Beach on Water Island and it has a small beach bar and place to get lunch. Water Island is extremely safe.

When I first saw the picture of the Trade Winds villa I thought it was too good to be true. This big house on the ocean for that price?
My boyfriend and I planned a last minute getaway during the holidays to the Trade Winds on Water Island in the Virgin Islands. We were met by Bill Carli on St. Thomas and took a short boat ride to Water Island. Bill seemed like a cool guy and took us to the huge house via our own private golf cart.
Once we arrived we were impressed that the house looked even better than in the photos and was fabulous. We went inside and loved the Nautical decorations and the huge windows that displayed the panoramic views and vast ocean... paradise!
There was a warm welcome sign and treats provided by Bill and Christy, our lovely hosts. Bill offered us his famous Rum drink. We said yes and it quickly became the drink of choice for our entire stay. Our hosts were polite and offered us as much privacy as we wanted in the house. We ended up hanging with them often, they were great hosts! Bill was probably a fun pirate in his past life and Christy is a saint!
The House had a full kitchen, laundry and 3 rooms to sleep. I loved waking up to cruise ships sailing by just outside our bedroom windows in the morning so close we felt like passengers could look right in at us. It was spectacular! In the evenings the cruise ships sail out of the harbor and went right by our windows as we enjoyed dinner.
The Island is very reclusive and has a little beach bar called Joe's. That's all you need.
If you need more action you can take a five-minute ferry ride back to St. Thomas. We took the ferry to a beautiful restaurant on St. Thomas called ocean. We also went shopping and site-seeing in St. Thomas. Another day we took a ferry to St. John's and spent a day there on their beautiful beaches.
The Island and the house has an exclusive getaway feel that you can't get from a hotel. We highly recommend this beautiful place & look forward to going back.

We hesitate to write a review because we would like this villa to remain our secret. It is a beautiful home, in a fantastic setting and with the most wonderful two people that manage the house. We have been in several Caribbean countries and this is by far the best spot we have found. It was very relaxing, the views were beautiful and the people of Water Island very welcoming. We made several trips to St. Thomas beaches and one trip to St. John. Getting groceries by ferry trips was very easy. We never go back to the same place twice; but we are definately considering going again soon to Tradewinds Villa.

Great place to relax and unwind

Stayed at Tradewinds Villa for a week in March. Bill and Chris Carli who manage the property could not have been more helpful. The house looks right out to the Caribbean and has a great sunrise view. The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the main living area, providing an element of privacy. The kitchen is well equipped. Since there is limited food service on the island we grilled out most nights. The outdoor decks are spacious and inviting. This is a great place to escape the rat race and observe nature.

Muskegon, MIA Dreamy Little Paradise! Highly Recommended!

My visit to Water Island and the Tradewinds Villa was one of my loveliest destination spots on the planet. The comfort of the Villa and beauty of the surroundings was complimented tenfold by Bill and Chris Carli, our hosts. It is evident that they are genuinely interested in making sure their guests are comfortable and given a multitude of opportunities for personal enjoyment. I would recommend Tradewinds Villa and the Carli Team to anyone, young or old, married or single, small group or large. The Carli's will be sensitive to your needs and make sure that you maximize your stay on the islands. Thumbs up! Can't wait to go back!

My daughter and I had the pleasure of staying at Tradewinds Villas about a year ago. The house is perched on top of Water Island with amazing panoramic water views. One of our favorite activities was simply relaxing on one of the fabulous balconies either reading or just talking while enjoying the view. The house is very comfortable and beautifully decorated with a complete kitchen. Other than a few trips to the grocery store and maybe a dinner out you really don't want to leave. Exploring Water Island is quite an experience. Our favorite spot was Honeymoon Beach. We even watched a movie there shown on a sheet tethered between two palm trees. Not much more tropical and laid back than that! Bill and Chris owned a B & B in Washington State for many successful years and they certainly know how to treat their guests. If you are considering Water Island or even St Thomas I would highly suggest staying at the Tradewinds Villas.
