Cocoa Beach, FloridaFlorida Kids First Snow Experience
Left on 02/25/2010 for a stay in February 2010
Our family decided to take a trip to the North Carolina Mountains from Sunny Cocoa Beach, Florida in February of 2010 to try and give our 3 kids (2, 8 and 11) their first snow experience as it was plentiful this year on the East Coast. We reached out to several select properties online that were of interest to us for rental information.
I can't begin to tell you how fortunate we are that we decided to stay at the Emerald Gate Farm. The owner (JC) sold us on the property over the phone and via e-mail. But, it wasn't until we arrived that that all of the built up excitement became a reality. The pictures on the site (which were nice) didn't do this property enough justice.
JC was extremely hospitable and the property was absolutely amazing. From the Cozy Living Room where our entire Family gathered around the Fireplace daily to the wide open property where our kids could be kids and explore. There were horses, roosters, geese, sled riding, building snowmen, streams, smores at the camp fire, ponds with fish, and much more... The house was very spacious and had everything you needed. Our Master bedroom opened up to the valley for a beautiful panoramic view andytime of the day.
Our kids got to experience snow for the first time and play in it everyday, and I can't imagine a better place for that to have happened than on the Emerald Gate Farm.
We didn't even leave the property a couple of days, as there was so much for the kids to do right there, and we just relaxed and enjoyed the mountainous views. However, we were only 10 minutes from the Cataloochie Ski Resort and Town.
We are already planning our next trip up there to see JC and all of his animals. We are certainly fortunate and appreciative of JC and the experience he gave our family. I would highly recommend the Emerald Gate Farm to any family. -

Nashville. TNCan We Keep Emerald Gate Farm a Secret?
Left on 02/16/2010 for a stay in March 2009
I think our secret has been discovered. This great cabin, tucked away in a
gorgeous high mountain valley near Catalochee has easy Interstate access
and a quick ride to Waynesville or Asheville. It is a jewel.
We love cooking and JC Dobson makes it easy with a cook's kitchen and a
comfortable, updated space. Our three young children also look forward to
our stay each time. Staying at Emerald Gate is an annual to bi-annual event
for us now. You will be treated to garden bounty if you go in the summer.
JC has quite a summer crop of fruits and vegetables. Even better, his
cooking will amaze and delight. He is the ultimate host.
The children love the farm animals and all the places to explore. With hiking
and skiing close by we are never without activities, but you can make a day
of it just hanging out, feeding ducks, riding horses and touring the farm
with JC. It is a relaxing escape to WNC that will not disappoint.

Ft Lauderdale FloridaTranquil and safe farm/ ranch life amid Arts and Craftsy Waynes
Left on 02/16/2010 for a stay in September 2009
I've stayed at this location several times and I love the wrap around porch with a grand view of the Great Smokey mountains. If you take the ride into the National Park there are elk along the road which I thought were only out west.
It is far enough from town to feel the old Carolina mountain life and close enough to go in to Waynesville twice a day if you wish. Its also got enough elevation to make the summer weather pleasant.
I like eating the apples off a tree there because its a variety the supermarkets don't carry.
I look forward to an October visit when the leaves change since my early September visit was too soon.
I could live there, but grandchildren keep me in Florida. Rick

Englewood FlAn Awesome Family Vacation
Left on 02/14/2010 for a stay in December 2009
My husband, myself, our 16 year old son, our 19 year old daughter and her boyfriend stayed at Emerald Gate Farm for a week. The home was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved feeding the geese and Sampson. The location was great. The view was wonderful. It was an awesome vacation and were sorry when it was time for us to go home.
