What a great place to stay in! From the onset, Cathy and the onsite management of Cocolobo was great to work with. They're very responsive and answered all of our questions in a timely and thorough manner.
Our group of 4 was very pleased upon seeing the lodge. It is very spacious, the balconies are great, and the kitchen was a treat to cook in. Each of the bedrooms had air conditioning and all of the other rooms (including the balcony upstairs) had fans. The laundry room is an added plus, especially the sink, which was great for rinsing dive gear.
The lodge is just steps away from the main Cocolobo complex which had access to wifi. It's also just minutes from town...this allowed for privacy and a little more relaxation, but was also very close to the dive shops, restaurants and nightlife.
We could not have asked for a better place to stay in and will definitely be back! Thanks Cathy!!

When it comes to vacation rentals, you never can be sure of what you're going to find- This house, Atocha Lodge, is the real deal. Everything stated in the description is true, there is nothing we were missing here, obviously the owner has thought of every last detail and it was very much appreciated during our stay. From the beginning Cathy was so helpful with tips, island information, and what to expect with the house. When we arrived the house was perfect, just like the pictures-well, that's not true, it is even prettier! It's easy to see that Cathy loves this house, it truly feels like a home. It was the perfect size for us, two couples.
There are two bedrooms, each with a large bathroom, along with an entryway and deck on the first floor. The kitchen, dining area, living room, and utility room (washer/dryer) are on the second floor along with a large deck which overlooks the lovely and well-kept gardens. The house was clean, very well maintained, and supplied with more than we hoped for. Out of all of the amenities here, our favorite was the locked key box. It was so nice to not have the worry of losing our key during a day of snorkeling, just had to remember the code! I think every rental home needs one of these!
This neighborhood, Seagrape, is my favorite! It's just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of the town of West End, but just far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. We feel like this neighborhood is quite safe, but just in case, Jose the friendly night watchman was there looking out for us every night. After reading earlier reviews mentioning the constant barking of the neighbor dogs, I was a concerned that I may not have the relaxing holiday I was hoping for. Here's the scoop on the neighbor dogs- yes they bark sometimes, but most of the time they don't. They seem to bark when someone is walking close to their driveway or coming toward their house, to me this is the behavior of a watch dog, and that's fine with me. It really isn't an issue.
Overall, we can't express how much we enjoyed this home. We've had several conversations about renting atocha Lodge again, hope this happens in the near future! Thanks for sharing! -

This was my second time at the Cocolobo Lodge and again I was not disappointed, the managers: Ron and Connie are always ready to help us organise our day and answer our questions. After reading some pass comments I was afraid of the "barking" dog... really it was noting to worry about. We were able to get serenade by the birds every morning drinking our Roatan coffee on the porch. Still a dream come true, a real vacation home with all the amenity you need.A full kitchen from the Marguaritaville to the can opener ready for any occasion, a library of books and video for our quiet evening. Cathy the owner was very helpful to give us very good advise on how to plan our stay...And don't forget the snorkeling only few step from the lodge...From the minute you arrive till your last day you feel that you are visiting a friend house.

I stayed at cocolobo lodge a with my husband and a friend for 12 days in January. The house is perfect and has everything that you would ever need. I really can't think of a single thing that the house is missing. It felt like home.
The location is great as well, far enough away from the noise of west end, but a close walk to everything.
Cathy is a dream to deal with, she answered all my questions and even emailed me to make sure the trip was going as planned.
I would definitely stay there again the next time we go to Roatan. -

The lodge is in a perfect location to everything, including the use of the pool and bar across the street at the Cocolobo resort. Bonnie and Ron are terrific, they are always there to answer any questions you might have.

Left on 01/15/2013 for a stay in December 2012
My husband and I just returned from a spectacular two week holiday in Roatan with our families and I cannot recommend the Cocolobo Lodge enough!
The condo is lovely, beautifully appointed, stocked with everything you could need, and it exceeded all our expectations. We had varying numbers of guests throughout the stay (min 2, max 7) and we were all very comfortable (we brought a blow up mattress). We loved the open 2nd floor where the kitchen and living room are adjoined allowing the family to really enjoy being together. We also were surprised to find 2 wrap around porches, one on each floor of the condo. We spent the majority of our trip lounging on the porch, bbq-ing and hanging out. The food in Roatan is nothing to write home about, so I'd recommend grocery shopping and taking advantage of the kitchen and grill at the condo.
The condo is secluded and quiet, separated from the main resort rooms & lodge, but close so we could use the facilities (wifi, pool, sunset bar) whenever we wanted. Ron and Bonnie who run Cocolobo are lovely and helpful and we enjoyed getting to know them.
Thank you, Cathy! Cocolobo Lodge was really the perfect place to relax and enjoy the holiday and made for the best family vacation we've had in years! We'll be back!

We loved the Lodge! The front upper deck was a favorite spot for dining and relaxing. just a short walk and we were at Half Moon Bay and West End. Cathy definitely thought of everything when decorating and equipping the house. Everyone we met was very friendly and helpful. The weather was beautiful! West end Divers did a great job of helping our son and his wife earn their scuba certification. The Cocolobo Resort had a wonderful infinity pool just across the street with amazing ocean views. we rented a Jeep for a day from Land's End...just down the road and took ourselves on a wonderful tour of the island...the scenery was amazing and it helped us to better understand the island culture and topography. The Lodge was located in a wonderful safe quiet neighborhood.God truly blessed us on this wonderful family vacation! Roatan is a tropical paradise with crystal clear waters. overall wonderful experience!

We are just back from another wonderful week in Roatan. We stayed in Cocolobo Lodge a and had a great experience. The townhouse is brand new and fully equiped with everything you could need. Nice wrap around decks some ocean views and a nice grill for Bbq'ing! We loved the privacy that Lodge a provides...but it is also close to walk to the West End. You also have access to Cocolobo Resort Pool, which is great to take a dip or have a couple beers with Ron and Bonnie. There is also a night watchmen provided by the Resort for extra security.

Let me just get this out of the way, this place was great! I wasn't quite sure what to expect when we first arrived, as I never saw any photos of the lodge, but as soon as I walked into the lodge I was very impressed. It was like walking into a little wood cabin. Everything was clean and tidy and had all of the amenities you could every want. A full kitchen, washer and dryer, two walk around decks and even a barbaque. The location was great too. It was less than a five minute walk to the main street in West End, which was extremely safe and super laid back. Also everyone was super friendly and and very helpful. It was also right next to the main Cocolobo Resort, which had free wifi, which was perfect for Skyping with family back in the us, and a little bar.
Overall, I would highly recommend this place to any family or group of friends looking for a great place to stay on Routan. In fact I've already recommended it to one of my co-workers.
The only downside to the lodge was something that can't really be controlled and that was the neighbors dogs would consistantly bark at night and the owners never did anything about it.Response from Cathy Hamel - 06/26/2012

I enjoyed everything. The house was gorgeous and clean. Having drinking water available was fantastic. Heidi and the other lodge employees were great. Always willing to help. Only a few suggestions. One is a few more candles. We had a blackout one night. The flashlight that plugged into the was perfect. Second the bed in the guest room could use some tending to but that should be last on your list. The only real negative thing were the two pit bulls next door. They barked all the time. I know it is beyond your control.
I thank you for providing such a wonderful home.Response from Cathy Hamel - 06/26/2012

We rented Cocolobo Lodge for 2 weeks in June, 2012. What a treat! The lodge is situated in the quiet part of West End a few minutes walk from the bars and restaurants. It is set in it's own private gardens and shaded by a beautiful big almond tree. Everything was perfect, kitchen was well equipped, laundry room, well appointed living dining area with everything we could of asked for and more. A lot of thought and care has gone into the design, furniture and layout of the lodge, beautiful wood floors throughout, great a/c in the bedrooms, comfy beds, entertainment system, a true home away from home. It was so peaceful to sit out on the deck that runs the whole length of the lodge in the big adironback chairs and watch the ocean. Cathy the owner was very easy to work with and being able to use the pool and bar at Cocolobo was a big plus. We have stayed at 5 different places during our visits to Roatan and will look no further, we will definitely be coming back. Thank you Cathy for an amazing 2 weeks.

Three words describe Cocolobo lodge - amazing, amazing, amazing. My wife and I travel often and have stayed in many places around the world. By far our favorite is Cocolobo. Cathy keeps an excellent house. The kithcen is fully stocked and has great cooking space. The floor plan is open and spacious. Rooms fully furnished, beds are comfortable and have air conditioning. Excellent dive shops and restaurants a short distance away but the lodge is out of the way enough that it is insulated from white noise. My wife and I will definately be going back and staying here.

From the very first drive up to the home I knew I was in for a truly island experience. The ease to get to the home was a breeze from the airport and a picturesque drive. Settling in was facile and the accommodations surpassed my expectations. It had all of the amenities of a first class rental home, and I do mean home. Great kitchen for me, the cook, with everything you could want to make culinary delights. Fresh produce is found within walking distance sold by local vendors. If you don't fell like cooking, ample restaurants are very close by and there is no need to get in the car. Simply decide what you want to eat and within a 10 minute walk you find just about anything. Across the street is the Cocolobo lobby and the ocean where we spent most nights watching these unbelievable sunsets. I loved the view, atmosphere and sounds of island life while resting after a long days suba dive on the balcony in my very own oasis. Heidi the lodge attendant was always available for suggestions and or help. She's lived there her entire life so there is nothing she doesn't know about the area. A real gem to have around. The ceiling fans in every room were a real treat and the flat screen with cable made it easy to stay informed on all my sports back home. All in all, the best review I could give is that I would go back and really encourage all my friends to pay a visit too.

I have never felt so strongly about a rental that I have actually written a review, but this place is that good. Cocolobo lodge a has the ideal location on Roatan. It is the perfect distance from West End, and is steps away from an infinity pool for lounging and Half Moon Bay for snorkeling. From the spotless wood floors, ceilings and furniture, to the classy decor, to the appliances including a margaritaville blender and magic bullet (just in case one person wants a margarita and another wants a pina colada), to the balcony with a view of the sea through the trees, the house was so welcoming and beautiful that it was hard to make ourselves get out and do things in the morning. There were also many random extras such as flameless candles, a flat screen tv, ihomes in every room and extra snorkel equipment and towels. Haidi was awesome too, and we kind of wanted to ask her to hang out with us. Maybe next time:)

My family just returned two days ago from a week long stay at Cocolobo Lodge a in Roatan. It was the perfect spring break get away for us and our two teenage daughters.
We were met at the airport which is ~ 15 minutes away by a driver waiting for us who handled our baggage without problems. He stopped at a local grocer to get a week's worth of supplies and then dropped us off. The local property manager (Hiadi) then met us at the lodge upon arrival and oriented us for the stay. The "lodge" is a two-story new structure with two bedrooms & baths downstairs and the living room/kitchen upstairs with a laundry room as well. There is a beautiful wrap around deck on both levels. We spent most of our time on the upstairs deck enjoying the wildlife and cool ocean breezes. The ocean is directly across the street as well as the Cocolobo Hotel which is the number 1 rated hotel in Tripadvisor.
While staying at Lodge a, you have full access to the pool, bar and amenities at the hotel which is run by the wonderfully eccentric Canadian - Ron, who also mixes a great margarita. We spent part of most days by the pool and enjoying the company of other guests.
We dove with Scuba Roatan which is a new dive outfit and were thoroughly spoiled - being the only divers on the boat for 2/3 days. I would highly recommend them, Rino the owner/divemaster was excellent and is a local - knowing these waters better than most.
The lodge is well appointed - the kitchen, furniture, LCD TV/DVD and internet access all excellent. Fresh bottled water was free and a treat in a 3rd world country. It was like staying at a home in a beautiful vacation spot - much better than having just a hotel room. In fact, no comparison! You are also within easy walking distance to the village of West End ~ 5 minutes.
Overall, I would highly recommend staying at Cocolobo Lodge a if I were planning to stay at the West End.Response from Cathy Hamel - 03/28/2012

Thanks Jeffrey and Family! We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay in what we also consider paradise. We look forward to seeing you again or having some of your friends enjoy the same serenity and relaxation that this Spring Holiday provided!

This is a well appointed luxury home in Roatan, independent but associated with Cocolobo Resort in WestEnd Roatan. The nearby village ( 5 min walk )has not been commercialized yet and sits in front of Half Moon Bay, a gorgeous little bay with a natural reef spanning its entrance that was a delight to snorkel. The home has all the amenities you could want and we cooked our meals mostly at home. Haidi, the liason manager was charming helpful and always available to organize anything we asked for. She welcomed us on arrival and ( loved this perk ) gave us a local cell phone to call her directly if we needed assistance. Her brother went fishing and caught us a lovely red snapper which was the best fish I have ever Eaten ( except maybe at my good friend's Cathy ). A 1 minute walk from our home was the Cocolobo resort a charming small resort with a small infinity pool that was just what you needed at the end of the day. Ron and Bonnie run the show here and offer drinks and great conversation. Friday night happy hour is the time to ( actually any evening ) meet and chat with an international group of visitors to the island. You can sit and exchange your daily activities and share tips of where to dive or snorkel or do other activities. The locals are very freindly and the atmosphere on the island is,... chill ( even with 85 degree weather!) My husband and I had a truly lovely holiday. We really enjoyed snorkeling, especially sitting on the decks enjoying the hummingbirds, roosters, beautiful foliage and ocean view, with a pleasant breeze. There are lots of small local restaurants, we did not eat at many due to an allergy issue but the other visitors spoke well of their eating out. We walked to West Bay from West End which was quite a commercial area and really made us appreciate our choice of lodging. Even with a few tropical rain showers our stay was magical. Our biggest regret,... not booking longer.

it was very obvious to us as we walked into Cathy's lodge she had gone to great lengths to provide us with everything needed to make her place special and easy to use. She even had a tool box in place. Its a great place to kick back and enjoy. It was our 5th time renting on the island and this place is a keeper. Its close to the night life yet its away from the noise. We spent 4 weeks enjoying lodge "A" In the morning wild parrots come for a visit. They only stay around for a short time, so you really need to have your camera ready and waiting. About 4 gecko's did a hunting trip around the balcony every day. They all have names now. Lodge "A" is gone for now as we are back home, its all good memories.

To anyone who is looking for one of the best experiences of their life, I highly suggest seeking out a trip to Roatan, Honduras. Cocolobo Lodge a is one of the main reasons I enjoyed the stay as much as I did. The home is absolutely amazing, with everything anyone would need to enjoy a wonderful vacation. The kitchen and TV room overlook the ocean, which was one of my favorite parts. I loved enjoying every meal I ate, while watching the beautiful ocean waves as well as the sun rise and sun set. There are also tons of opportunities to see many rare animals! 7 am, the parrots are sitting right outside of the balcony, which raps around the house.
Not only is this house 2 minutes away from the ocean, but there is also a fresh water pool located just as close, for anyone to enjoy!
The location of this Cocolobo Vacation house is more than perfect. Visitors are able to experience a wonderful, warm beach vacation... But thats not all! Just down the road, walking distance is the West End strip, where tourists can go to experience an authentic side of the Roatan culture. West End is filled with gift shops, restaurants, bars, dive shops and many welcoming people who take the vacation to a whole new level.
The very best part of this vacation spot was the many different beaches and activities offered and the worst part was having to leave.

Four stars in my book, a new two bedroom condo just off the beach and across the street from the Cocolobo Resort. The kitchen and dining room area were very nicely appointed, the kitchen was set up for gourmet cooking and the property manager Haidai was amazing! They had good cable and wifi, air cond in the bedrooms and ceiling fans in the rest of the house. You can utilize the pool at Cocolobo to lie out and relax.
Haidai came in and cooked us an authentic island meal, fresh baked snapper her brother caught and island rice, great service, great meal and really nice to get to know Haidai and her two beautiful children. Split between two couples or a family, a very economical accommodation and far enough to be away from the wildness but close enough to walk to all the restaurants and entertainment.
Roatan was a lot of fun. West End reminded me of what Key West must have been like 40 years ago. A dirt road winding through a little beach town full of throwbacks from the 60’s making their way around the local bars and restaurants at night and diving, fishing or getting over their hangovers during the day.
The diving was excellent and only about a hundred yards off the island, easy to get to. Most dive shops charged $30-$40 per tank. They all go out for a 9-9:30am. 11-11:30am and a 2-2:30pm dive, I tried Coconut Tree and West End and had good results with both. Ct requires you do a two tank dive for the morning dive but West End and Reef Gliders come back after each dive since it is so close to shore. Most shops give you a discount the more dives you do with them. We even rented kayaks one day and went out for an afternoon with snorkeling gear, tied up to one of the boat moorings and jumped in.
We really liked the people we met, where we stayed and had mixed results at the eating establishments.
•Beso’s was our favorite restaurant. Daphane and her crew gave great service and the food was excellent. This was by far the best restaurant we tried in West End.
•The Lighthouse was horrible, service was slow, the food was mediocre and the price was way too high. Great view but I would skip the Lighthouse.
•Coconut Tree – the food was good but not much on atmosphere.
•Argentinean Grill – we had a great burger here and heard mixed reviews about their dinner.
•Sundowners – the place to go early for a drink at sundown and meet the locals.
•We also enjoyed having a condo with a kitchen so we could save money on food. Cooked two meals in and made sandwiches most days.

154913What a Great Find!

My friends and I could not have found a better place to stay on our vacation. The place is beautifully furnished with a fully equipped kitchen. It was really clean and I felt incredibly safe there. As the property manager was born and raised on Roatan, she was very helpful when it came to island resources (and really nice, too!). West End is a mere 5 minute walk away, where my friends and I could easily access bars, restaurants, grocery shopping and everything else that Roatan had to offer. However, it was also easy to get away from the tourism - Cocolobo lodge a was in a small quiet community! I will most definitely be returning to Cathy's lodge, and I can't wait!

CalgaryGreat place, great location

I loved staying at this place. I love the choice of furniture and besides looking great it is extremely comfortable. I spend many mornings and evenings sitting on the wonderful upstairs decks just watching some of the 247 species of butterflies that consume the trees surrounding the home. The days I didn't feel like cooking I enjoyed the short 3min walk to the main strip where many wonderful restaurants have their home- my favorite being the Thai restaurant- it is every bit as good as here at home. Overall I had a great week.
I would return to this place in a heartbeat.
