Lansing, MichiganThis is the life!
Left on 04/25/2013 for a stay in March 2013
My husband and I just returned from staying at Carraholly Cottage for one month. It can sleep six comfortably but for two it was perfect. Comfortably furnished in the master bedroom, living room, sun porch, and kitchen. The view of the many moods of Croagh Patrick is mesmerizing. Quiet, comfortable, and clean. Loved having a washer and dryer. There is a dishwasher but with just the two of us we only used it twice in the entire time we were there.
Very close to the wonderful town of Westport, Co. Mayo and a riding stable and golf course. Carraholly Cottage was perfect for us...especially when we were watching the sunset with a turf fire in the fireplace.
If we had a complaint it is the fry pans. We are used to cast iron and gas stoves so it took us a while to master thin pans and electric burners. But that is our bad, not Jackie's.

Really enjoyed the luxury of this house with my 81 year old dad, beautiful views of Croagh Patrick, and only a short drive to Newport, Westport and achill Island! Everything is there to make your stay as good as it was, felt very relaxed to be there, I'm sure I'll be back!
Thanks Jacky for being helpfull, and of course also to the man who showed us the house and let us in (can't remember his name right now).
Only thing is that internet access would be great, on the other hand, then it would be less relaxed ;-)Response from Jackie at Carrowholly Cottage Westport - 01/04/2013

We had a lovely week at this cottage in Carrowholly, near Westport. It was just me and hubby, but I think there is plenty of room if you have children. It's an old cottage that's been nicely done up, with central heating and fitted kitchen etc. Our favorite place was the sunroom, where we could eat breakfast and admire the view of Croagh Patrick. The local area is nice and quiet, but it's only a few minutes to town for shopping and pubs. It's also nearby the sailing club, riding stables and walking trail to Newport. An excellent value, too.

Left on 06/03/2012 for a stay in July 2012
Thank you for the magical 3 week stay. We loved the views from your conservatory especially the ever changing light on Croagh Patrick - and were inspired to walk up the reek.
Our kids loved your home, cosy fire and fabulous movies and books you made available to us.The garden was stunning and we fell in love with the unicorn without the horn in the field opposite.
The girls appreciated the warmth of the family that ran the stables at the end of the street. The boys loved Westport Golf club and the welcome for beginners. The lunches were very reasonable. Volcano pizza was the kids favourite.
You have a beautiful home-very practical for our family.
We will be back next year.Response from Jackie at Carrowholly Cottage Westport - 06/07/2012

This is a truly lovely, amazing cottage. The owner had it lovely and warm. The views from the cottage are beautiful with Croagh Patrick in the distance. We were with cousins from america. This cottage is so comfortable. We didn't want to leave it. It was about 3 or 4 miles from Westport. The gardens were lovely. It was so safe even with children as there are gates up at the top a lovely wooden bench where you can sit and admire the views. It has a lovely conservatory. Everything you could possibly need is in this cottage. Thank you Jackie for the use of this cottage for three nights. Oh that it had been longer. We will definitely be back. Delighted I saw it on this site.

LeitrimReally great holiday home!
Left on 09/08/2011 for a stay in August 2011
We're a family of 2 adults 2 kids and a dog! It was our first 'staycation' for a week in one location self catering! Our kids are very active so we felt we needed more than a hotel room for them and we wanted to bring the dog! We spent an action packed week in Westport from climbing croagh patrick to surfing to cycling the greenway. Every day it was great to return to our spacious retreat. The house was warm cosy, and the sun room a special treat as we have lots of sun that week! We had all the linen (incl towels) provided and the house was spotless! It is a lovely rural location and our dog enjoyed morning and evening walks along quiet roads (if she hadn't been to the beach with us that day). The views from the sunroom were fabulous. We loved our holiday cottage, don't think the kids want to go abroad again!!!

This is the second time we have stayed in this lovely cottage - it has everything you need amenity-wise and is located in a quiet country road with a great view of Croagh Patrick. And yet it is only five minutes drive from Westport itself. Perfect for a short break or as a base for a longer stay to explore Mayo. The owner (Jackie) and the property manager (Ray) are very helpful and friendly.

Left on 09/03/2010 for a stay in July 2009
Carrowholly Cottage is surrounded by breathtaking scenery, and you get to drink it all in from the sun-kissed conservatory at the side of the house. A few minutes drive to horseriding stables, to golf courses, and some quiet beaches. 5mins drive to Westport with some excellent seafood restaurants, and great bars that promise traditional Irish music and the "craic." And 15mins drive to Croagh Patrick - a spiritual mountain that dominates the landscape - with a steep, rocky climb to the top but a challenge once accomplished will stay with you for the rest of your life. A definite find: Carrowholly, Westport and Co. Mayo

Sligo, IrelandNot like any other Irish cottage experience!
Left on 08/07/2009 for a stay in July 2009
I have found that there are two types of vacation home in Ireland;the damp, decrepid hovel, which is empty for 50 weeks of the year, and the sterile new home complete with a sparse starter-home-pack of very basic equipment.'Carrowholly Cottage' was (thankfully) not like either of these, and was, without doubt, the best holiday home l have ever stayed in; the location is wonderful, the beautiful town of Westport is minutes away with an abundance of international restaurants with great family facilities and things to do. Westport is a wonderfully picuresque town, that is truly uplifting and,and more importantly the cottage itself is lovely, it's spacious, warm, with everything you could need and more.It feels like you are staying at a friend's home who appreciate their comforts. Go there, you won't be dissapointed.

Left on 05/14/2009 for a stay in December 2008
We are a family of four who spent christmas in the cottage. We could enjoy the beautiful surroundings for walks especially the long empty sandy beaches. We also visited Westport town and enjoyed a wide varity of restaurants with excellent food (mangos and the lemon peel are two which we would highly recommend) There was also ababy sitting service which we took advantage of. We also went to hotel Westport's spa and swimming pool which had low family rates to use its facilities. The cottage is situated in a beautiful tranquil location close to the sea and local marina. What we liked most about staying there was that it was possible to relax. The house was clean and warm and cosy. The local people were also very friendly and helpful. We also went by car to the see experising the beautiful and rugged wilderness of the westcoast of ireland . I can really recommend to stay in Carraholy for a calm and relaxing family vacation. We hope to visit again during the next Summer .

SwitzerlandA perfect place to relax and enjoy nature
Left on 05/13/2009 for a stay in August 2003
This cottage is situated in a perfect emerald green Irish setting with wonderful views across to St. Patrick's mountain. The town of Westport is close by and everything one would need is available in the local shops including a good bakery, butcher, green grocer and supermarkets. We particularly enjoyed taking our meals in the conservatory and in good weather the garden patio is an idyllic setting for relaxing over an aperitif and a good meal in the private garden. We were able to visit the surrounding area and beaches on easy day trips by car and next time we go, we will take bicycles. The photographs on this website are a true reflection of the house. Children would love this environment. The facilities within the home are more than adequate and very comfortable for a family holiday. Since our stay in this home, there have been many updates to make it extra comfortable so we look forward to our next visit.
