Something different - a small rustic private house with beautiful hills and a great beach in the back yard. With a shaded elevated deck, a stargazing patio, and an outdoor dining area, the house is set up for guests who like to spend time outdoors. Old style shuttered windows (no glass, but they do have insect screens) allow the house to be cooled by the trade winds. Kampung Lagun is in the beach community of Lagun, located in the rural 'Westpunt' region of the island. Westpunt is where Curaçaoans like to go on weekends to be with friends, have barbeques and parties, and go to beaches. This is reflected in the houses closest to Kampung Lagun: two are family residences, one is a family week-end house, and the other two are week-end rentals for locals.
We have been coming to Kampung Lagun since 2005. During the week the neighborhood is usually very quiet. On the weekends there will probably be something going on - maybe a wedding, a birthday party, or an occasional loud Caribbean style party with lots of people. Of course, weekends can also be very quiet. Whatever it is, you can be sure that it will be a 100% Curaçaoan experience.
Because of the natural setting, you will see a lot of birds, lizards, and even iguanas. But it is really the beach that makes the location great. The beach behind the house is called Playa Jeremi, and is a local beach. It is wonderful for swimming, snorkeling, and SCUBA diving (there is a SCUBA center a two-minute drive from the house). The beach is a one-minute walk from the house, and you walk through the ‘mondi’ on an ancient fisherman's trail to get there - it is really cool. Other things in the area: several beaches, Landhuises, restaurants, and Kristoffel Park. There is a guest binder in the house with a good list of things you can do.
Kampung Lagun is a private house on a large fenced lot, with gardens and natural vegetation. It is a 40 minute drive from the airport, and a 50 minute drive to Willemstad, the main city. We recommend that guests rent a car, although it is possible to get to major locations using local busses; taxis are not readily available.

Everything about this place is pretty much perfect, if you're looking for an affordable, authentic experience in Curacao - I almost don't want to say anything about it because I don't want the secret to get out. The owners are very kind, helpful and responsive (particularly in our case, as we'd contacted them initially, then decided to go with a villa with a pool instead, which turned out to be a big mistake, as we paid for it and the owner rented it to someone else anyway); the same goes for the on-site caretakers. It's nestled along a row of local residences and guest houses on the west side of the island (the most beautiful part of the island). All of the indoor and outdoor space is terrific, and the owners have obviously put a lot of their heart into maintaining the property. One bedroom is air conditioned, which is nice for sleeping, and there was always hot water (although not always needed). And it's about a 60 second walk to the beach, with a view of the ocean from the deck. Really a wonderful experience, and hopefully we'll be able to return again someday.

Vom 21.2. bis zum 13.3.2012 wohnten wir in diesem Haus in Curacao. Dieser Teil der Insel ist für Individuellreisende, Naturliebhaber und Ruhesuchende fernab vom Massentourismus sehr zu empfehlen. Der Strand ist nie überlaufen und eignet sich sehr gut zum Schnorcheln.Das Wasser ist klar, ruhig und der Wind verschafft abkühlung. Vom Sonnendeck des Hauses lassen sich sehr gut Tiere, Meer, Sterne und Sonnenuntergänge beobachten. Papageien, Koolibris und Eidechsen sind keine Seltenheit.In dem beschaulichen Dorf lässt sich das Notwendigste erledigen. Ein Restaurant mit Tauchschule, ein Minimarkt und ein Imbiss.Das Haus ist liebevoll eingerichtet und sauber. Im Garten lässt es sich wunderbar entspannen,grillen etc. . Ein konsequenter guter Mückenschutz ist jedoch notwendig ! Moskitonetze sind vorhanden.
Die Unterstützung bei Problemen ist durch zwei Einheimischen sehr gut abgesichert. Die Besitzer des Hauses sind sehr nett,hilfsbereit und liefern eine reibungslose abwicklung der Formalitäten.
Wir verbrachten drei wunderbare Wochen, Danke !!!

This was our second visit to Curacao and we were thrilled to have spent it at Kampung Lagun! The amenities were great. The one minute walk to Playa Jeremi was such a treat and our 14 year old son spent the majority of his time swimming & snorkeling there. We spent each and every morning relaxing on the deck with our coffee & delicious fresh tropical fruit, staring out at the beautiful turquoise waters of Playa Jeremi! This was a great central location on the island - just minutes from most anywhere you want to go!
Since our visit was during summer, the beach was never 'empty'. However, it was the 'locals' that were using the beach and everything was kept clean and it was never overly busy. Still always enough space to kick out for a dive or a snorkel. And, there was never anyone at the beach at night. Was such a treat to make the quick walk down for a late night swim!
Because we had all the necessary amenities in the house we only ate out a couple of times. Jaanchie's (restaurant name and owner) was wonderful! The food was tasty and fresh. They made the best rum punch ever! We were given very special treatment and Jaanchie even made sure that my dairy-free requests were met! Of course, after such a wonderful experience, our next meal out was there as well.
The owners of Kampung Lagun were wonderful and helpful! Prior to our stay, we were given very clear directions to local markets & restaurants as well as information about the local area. They even called us the 2nd night to check in and make sure everything was ok. Of course - it was! :)
All in all... We loved Kampung Lagun! Thank you Bob & Alix! :)

Kampung Lagun is the ideal tropical place to rest, relax, swim, watch Curacao's plethora of birds, and capture a glimpse of authentic island life in a private neighborhood setting.
The quiet, soothing sound of waves and bird song, the colorful and thoughtfully appointed Curacao bungalow, the closeness of the unspoiled beach and the natural appearance of the yard and surrounding cacti covered hills make all of the above pleasures possible.
We also appreciated doing our own cooking in the well equipped kitchen. The bank, ATM and market, providing basic needs, are conveniently located only 15 minutes away, and the 40 minutes to Willemstad is an easy drive.
The best part of our time was spent on the covered upstairs deck which affords wonderful views of the cliffs, turquoise blue sea, returning fishing boats, flora and fauna, and superb sunsets. We spent many hours up on the deck being cooled by the Caribbean trade winds.
We definitely look forward to another visit to Dushi Curacao, and another stay at Kampung Lagun.

I had such an incredible experience during my stay at Kampung Lagun. Even the high expectations I had for the place were greatly exceeded; from the quiet, comfortable setting to the many opportunities to visit many great places nearby, it was an unbelievable time.
The house itself is very clean and well looked-after and the covered deck that sits raised above the house was an awesome place to relax and survey the beautiful surroundings. Two of my favorite activities from my stay at Kampung Lagun and Curacao in general were snorkeling at Playa Jeremi (literally a two minute walk down a wonderfully scenic trail) and sampling some of the local dishes at Rancho el Sabrino, a ten minute drive from the house.
Located about half a mile away was Discover Diving where I rented my snorkel gear (they also have a great selection of diving equipment for rent and have daily diving and snorkeling excursions) and used their free wireless internet to check my email from time to time.
Overall, I had a once-in-a-lifetime experience at Kampung Lagun and on the beautiful island of Curacao. I highly recommend staying at this rental and taking advantage of all the wonderful activities and opportunities it has to offer. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed.
