Home Sweet Home!
Left on 03/17/2013 for a stay in February 2013
My wife and I stayed with Janette and alistair for over 2 weeks in their lovely home this past February, and they could not have been more welcoming. Our room was very large with a comfy bed, very large private bathroom, and French doors opening to our own sitting area outside. It was perfect! Location was also great, with a few nice restaurants a short walk away, and a park with great hiking just a few blocks away. Our view from our room actually overlooks the reserve. Janette did her best to fatten me up with a terrific breakfast each morning, and my wife was able to catch up on 2 seasons of Downton abby while we were there. We have definitely enjoyed our time at Riddlesden and have already planned to return again in april. We would definitely recommend and encourage our friends and family to stay here at Riddlesden!

Goodrich, UKBeautiful home in Whangarei
Left on 01/11/2013 for a stay in January 2013
What a wonderful start to our tour around Northland. The whole home was superb and beautifully furnished and our ensuite bedrooms had very comfortable beds, really stylish shower rooms and french doors opening onto a verandah overlooking the lovely gardens.
Our hosts, Alistair and Janette, made us feel at home immediately and gave us a a breakfast that you would expect to get in a 5* hotel. The guest sitting room was light and airy and we could use the TV or DVD player.
As I went with my two grandchildren of very different ages, I appreciated the kindness shown to them and myself.
I would recommend anyone thinking of using a B & B in Whangarei to try Riddlesden first. Apart from the fact that it is of such a high standard and very quiet, it is also a a short distance from the town centre. -

If you want to feel really spoiled, this is the place to stay! Our hosts were delightful and their hospitality generous - the superb breakfasts sustained us all day. The charming guest rooms open out onto a wide verandah - a lovely place to sit and enjoy the morning sun. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and would return in a heartbeat. Go ahead - make that booking with confidence!

Left on 01/06/2013 for a stay in November 2012
We recently stayed for 3 nights in this beautiful B&B.; Our room (The Kereru room) was spacious with lovely antiques, a king-sized bed and a large bathroom. There was a sheltered veranda outside the room which overlooked the pleasant and quiet garden, perfect for relaxing with a book after a day out exploring. The breakfast had something for everyone with fruit, cereal, juices, toast & anything cooked that you requested. We found it was enough food to last us most of the day. The B&B; is situated within a good walking distance of the main shopping / dining area of Whangarei. However, you may wish to drive when going out to eat in the evening as the walk back up the hill out of the town is not so good when you've eaten a big evening meal.

First Class Gem of a B
Left on 10/30/2012 for a stay in October 2012
We found this B & B a little difficult to find, but what a gem when we did find it!
Nestled in the top of a crescent not far from the town centre is this turn of the century California style villa. We were greeted with a warm welcome from our Scottish hosts Janette and alistair.
Luckily for us we were the first booking to arrive for that day; this gave us a choice of room.
We opted for the slightly smaller room with the large wet room style bathroom.
The bedroom is furnished with period furniture with true antique wardrobe dressing tables and side bed tables, real china teacups, saucers and tea plates. This was the perfect blend of old and new. The bathroom, bed etc. all 21st century whereas everything else early 20th century – perfection.
Opening out from the bedroom through French style doors is the perfect veranda complete with white wicker furniture. We spent many hours here sipping excellent local wine gazing out over the stunning garden to the tree covered hills beyond. It is so quiet the birds kept us entertained as there was nothing to disturb them.
There is also a very comfortable lounge with TV for guests again in keeping with the rest of the house.
In the morning, breakfast is served in a large sunny kitchen dining room. There is a wonderful choice of food for breakfast, all freshly prepared by Janette, again served with real grace and elegance on lovely china with linen table cloth and napkins.
We spent three very comfortable nights here and thoroughly enjoyed the company of our excellent hosts. If you are ever in Whangarei and are lucky enough to get a booking at this excellent B & B you will not be disappointed. -

RaglanA mix of old fashioned luxury and modern convenience.
Left on 06/05/2012 for a stay in May 2012
Only having two bedrooms I am a little reluctant to overly recommend this excellent B&B; as it may be full the next time i want to stay. Lots of features from your grandmother's time but all comfortable and functional accompanied with very high standard, stylish and modern en-suite. The hosts are friendly and welcoming and if you want to know anything about porcelain, just ask. Good breakfast too and all very good value.

My husband and daughter have visited The Riddlesden once and I have been twice. Alistair and Janette made our visit to Whangarei very comfortable and relaxing when staying in their fabulous home, nothing was too much trouble for them, they are hosts who take that extra special care. The breakfast was awesome and served elegantly on their fine china. Their antiques throughout their home were stylishly displayed. When I had to return to Whangarei by myself I was made to feel very much at home by Janette and alistair, their company was very much appreciated.

We have stayed at the Riddlesden twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed both stays. Janette & Alistair are fantastic hosts, very helpful and friendly. The setting is peaceful and beautiful, and the home is devine, full of gorgeous antiques and collectibles. Breakfast was delicious and fulfilling served on fine china with silver. Cannot speak highly enough of everything. Our stays were to visit family and then the Rugby World Cup game but next time we go it will be to just enjoy everything about Riddlesden that makes it special.
