      Old boys Re-union

Left on 10/17/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Every year or two four friends get together for a weekend away. This year it was Whitby (don't ask why). The town is great the people great and the cafes great and the beer great! We stayed at this property for three nights and found it just immaculate and just what we wanted. Nice views and very close to the abbey and for walks along the coastal path. It has one superb bedroom two normal bedrooms and one box room and we had fun "spoofing" for choice of rooms. Would stay again without doubt.

Left on 03/21/2011 for a stay in March 2011

If you're looking for a comfortable, well appointed cottage to rent where you can sit and admire a stunning view or take a short walk to a bustling town centre or to a scenic cliff-top walk then you've found it! I had not been to Whitby before this trip and I h ave fallen in love with the place; I shall certainly return and I shall stay in Harbour View Cottage again: It is highly recommended.

We stayed in Harbour View Cottage in March 2011 and the weather was very good; it was sunny most days meaning that we could explore Whitby and the surrounding area. I'll try to concentrate this review on the cottage itself as there are a number of other websites reviewing all that Whitby has to offer.

      Location & Parking
The cottage is located in a terrace that can only be approached on foot: On-street parking is available at The Ropery, which is literally a two minute walk away. At the time of our visit parking was plentiful and the car was safe. A pathway leads from The Ropery to the terrace. The other means of accessing the property is via a set of steps from Church Street; there are approximately 100 steps but the view from the top is definitely well worth the effort!

      Immediate Vicinity
The quickest way to get into Whitby is to descent the 100 steps down to Church Street; the steps are in front of the neighbouring property. If you fancy a more leisurely walk you can walk behind the cottage and down a set of steps known as Caedman’s Trod: These steps aren’t as steep and they bring you out a bit further up Church Street. It takes literally minutes to get down the steps; at the bottom of the steps is a lovely pub called The Endeavour (real fire, real ale, dogs welcome) and all the shops you will need. The Humble Pie and Mash Shop, on the opposite side of the road sells hot food at a good price (pie, mash, peas & gravy £5 when we visited) and is currently in first place for food on Trip advisor! Church Street is a quaint cobbled street with lots of boutique-type shops; if you follow it to the end and turn left just before the 199 abbey Steps you will find a smokehouse where you can get amazing fresh kippers!

Anyway, I did say I’d concentrate on the cottage. You’ll have plenty of time to explore Whitby for yourself!

      Views
The views from the cottage are absolutely stunning; the patio, lounge and front bedrooms have views of Whitby, the harbour and the sea and the rear bedroom (and bathroom, if you open the obscurely glazed window) have views of fields and Whitby abbey. I spent hours relaxing and admiring the view (don’t forget your binoculars!) The view changes throughout the day with the tide and the direction of the sun so there is always something new to see.

      Layout
The cottage is open plan and feels very light and airy; the ground floor is taken up by one large room that is subdivided into a lounge, kitchen and dining area. The middle floor has a large bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with a wc, sink, bath and shower and the top floor, accessed via a winding staircase, has a further two decent sized bedrooms, each with two single beds. This means that the property can comfortably sleep 6 people without relying on sofa beds.

There is a yard in front of the cottage: It is secure, with a gate, so dogs and children are prevented from running off. There is a bench immediately in front of the cottage and a further picnic bench at the other end of the yard.

      Amenities
The cottage is well equipped; there is a television, dvd player and Sky box in the lounge. There are thoughtful touches such as dvd’s and books in the television cabinet. The lounge/dining/kitchen floor is tiled and there is a rug between the two settees. The cottage is heated by storage heaters and there is an electric log-effect stove in the lounge fireplace for additional heating. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need such as an oven/ hobs, microwave, toaster and all the crockery, cutlery, utensils and extras such as cleaning products, foil and cling film. The dining table seats 6 people and there are plenty of place mats. The bedrooms all have hanging space with clothes hangers and bedside lamps and the bathroom has an electric shower over the bath, a glass shower screen and floor mats. You’ll need to bring your own bed sheets, duvet covers, pillow cases and towels.

      Conclusion
In conclusion, this is a well equipped, well located property that comfortably sleeps 6 people. Please be aware that Whitby is very hilly; this property is accessed by a number of steps if you’re on foot but that’s the case for many properties in Whitby. It’ll exercise your lungs, filling them full of lovely fresh sea air!

      Brilliant

Left on 12/03/2009 for a stay in June 2009

Loved this cottage. It was high up overlooking Whitby and the harbour, lovely view both by day and night. Comfortable cottage, well equipped.
It was very near to the church and Whitby Abbey.
Good for walking the dog. Horses in field behind property. The only downside was parking. Not able to get near the property, sometimes had to park some distance away with a bit of a trek to and fro the cottage when unloading and loading the car. Due to the amount of steps to climb to reach the property, not really suitable for people with problems walking up and down steep steps. We loved this cottage, and would definitely stay again.
