What Past Guests Are Saying
This cottage is a fantastic find, it is on a quiet road and tucked away enough to be secluded, but also central to the city so it is only a short walk into Winchester and all the conveniences. There were lots of staples provided (tea, coffee, milk, cleaning things, wine!) so we were able to get comfortable straight away, unwind and relax.
Nigel has perfected the cottage and it has all the hallmarks of a 5* hotel but the relaxed pace of a self catering apartment and it really is the best of both worlds. There has been so much thought put into it and the end result is relaxing, interesting and quirky
I would thoroughly recommend a stay here, and I am a very fussy customer!

A wonderful honeymoon week in Winchester
We had such a wonderful honeymoon week staying at "Hang Your Hat ... The Cottage". We found the cottage so comfy and welcoming, with great facilities, made all the better by the warm reception and the extra treats laid on by Nigel. When we did venture out there was so much to see and do on the doorstep. The week flew by.
We're already looking forward to our next visit.
Luxurious home away from home
My boyfriend and I stayed here last weekend and had the most wonderful time. We felt very spoiled, especially with the complimentary wine, champagne and chocolates.
The steam room and garden area really differentiates it from any where else we've ever been.
We would strongly recommend and look forward to going back again soon.
Cosiest of homes in the middle of Winchester
We had an absolutely lovely stay in the heart of Winchester at Hang Your Hat. Described as having everything you could want from a hotel suite and more, we were not disappointed. From the candlelit steam room, to the open log fire and the bench in the garden that managed to catch some gorgeous sunlight on the wettest of November weekends, we were left wanting nothing more. A perfect place for a romantic weekend getaway. Despite wanting to see many attractions in the age old town, we left the maissonette only once to grab the Sunday newspapers and that's testament to the thought and care that has gone into having the house fit with everything one could need. Excellently finished by the excitable Nigel, thanks for a fantastic weekend. We'll be back
The hideaway with charm!
The hideaway with charm is indeed a place to 'hang your hat!' So close to everything, it filled our expectations perfectly. Loved the decor and regretted only in not having more time to have lit the fire! Next time... Thanks Nigel.
Amazing cosy, homely cottage in great location
We stayed at the Cottage for three weeks and enjoyed every minute. We felt relaxed and comfortable as soon as we walked in. It is cosy with a great outdoor patio and a homely living area with fire. Everything we needed was there and we entertained several times during our stay.
Winchester is a great place to visit with lots of history as well as shops, restaurants and pubs. London is an hour away by train and a easy day trip.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to staying again in 2014.
A stylish and indulgent hide-away for two
We chose Hang Your Hat Cottage for a quiet weekend away and it was everything we could have wished for!
It's the perfect escape for a couple and little touches like the steamroom and study made this feel very special - indulgence with a classic feel.
The owner was very accommodating and helpful and shared lots of little interesting facts about the cottage and its quirky features.
The cottage is only a short walk from the centre of Winchester but when you're relaxing in the beautiful garden with a glass of wine in your hand it feels like a million miles away. Perfect!
Perfect Weekend. Perfect House.
We were lucky enough to discover Hang Your Hat when looking for an impromptu weekend in Winchester. It was a terrifc find indeed. The cottage has been expertly and sympathetically renovated. The steam room/shower amazing and the owner knowledgable and friendly. I should have written this review before and thoroughly recommend Hang Your Hat as a superior alternative to a hotel break. Oh, thanks for the complimentary bottle of champagne too.
Lovely, cosy light-filled house with terrace and garden in histo
We were greated by the owner when we arrived at the property for transferral of key and general information. All was beautifully presented and all details thought of. We were given help as to how the heating worked, where to park (easy street parking with permit) and general directions to get around town, very helpful short cuts etc! Wonderful location in the old part of town, Hyde, with a lot of interesting history to it that the owner was very knowledgeable about. Easy access to central town, nearby park, public swimming pool / leisure centre. My children enjoyed the house and the area. House had been beautfully renovated, very well thought out open plan with atrium bringing in natural light to the kitchen, as well as large french doors opening out to the terrace. We ate outside, enjoying the lovely terrace and garden much of the week. Overall a fantastic experience. The Hat Fair was on that week too which added to the entertainments available within Winchester. Extremely helpful owner who was available for any pressing queries (we locked ourselves out on the first day!).
Best place in Winchester
Me and my wife we had a lovely time at Nigel's cottage, I think the rating should not be excellent, simply should be the best!
Keep up with the good work hang your hat!
Hang your Hat is aptly named
Hang your Hat is aptly named, that's exactly what we did, our own Private Hotel in a country cottage just a stone's throw away from the beautiful City centre, historic buildings, farmers market, entertainers. The welcoming was perfect; we had instant luxury, homely, warming, so, so, very relaxing and everything you need and more. We didn't want to go home.
good place, good owner
The place is at good location and very comfortble. The owner is very kind and very helpful.
