ScunthorpeA superb cottage in a great location
Left on 04/13/2013 for a stay in March 2013
We had a warm welcome and the cottage exceeded our expectations. Everything you could possibly need was provided and more and dogs are truly welcome. This made it great to retreat to after enjoying the great outdoors. The location gave easy access to Rye, Hastings and Battle so great for walking and visiting historical places of interest. The whole area was dog friendly which made planning days out easy. I would definitely recommend the cottage to anyone - with or without a dog.

Some good, some not
Left on 03/01/2013 for a stay in January 2013
There was an open fire, but when we arrived in the evening, there was no coal to start the fire and the few logs were giants and were not usable to start the fire, so I had to go and get coal. The companion set was almost a show set and fairly useless.
There was a nice welcome pack. The kitchen was large, with reasonable utensils and a nice cooker. However, I wish owners would put curtains or blinds at kitchen windows; here there were none.
The lounge was small, but fine for the two of us. However, the sofas need replacing as they are a bit old and the seats not too comfortable. There was a large flat screen t.v. which was good but, although Freeview, it hardly received any channels. Even Sky News kept being lost. I think a booster would be a good idea.
Upstairs, the double bed was comfortable and there was enough storage for clothes etc., although we did have to put some things in the second bedroom. There were no spare blankets and as it was cold, we had to use the duvet in the second bedroom on top of the one in the first bedroom; heavy.
The bathroom was large with a large bath and nice shower but, often the water pressure was so low, my shower was cut short by lack of water; so baths it was as I could leave that to fill while I did something else.
Finally, although a nearby car park is mentioned in the information about the cottage, we found it full or almost full on several occasions when we returned to Wirksworth after locals had arrived home from work or were going to the pubs; this was winter, so I don't know what it would be like in summer. I
I wouldn't go back as most of the above are important to us. If they are not important to others e.g. walkers, it might be O.K.
The price was O.K. for winter, but I wouldn't pay summer prices. Not the worst we have stayed in, but nowhere near the best. There were lots of nice touches like candles, a bottle of wine, soaps, hand cream but, I think the owners should concentrate on the basics rather than the niceties, e.g. t.v. water pressure, fire, seating etc. -

Great Barford, England, United KingdomCosy and chic--met every one of our (high) expectations
Left on 08/25/2012 for a stay in August 2012
Perfectly situated in Wirksworth which in itself is perfectly situated in the Peak District, Cosy Cottage was the ideal venue for our family of three's (plus dog) late summer holiday. Fantastically appointed down to picnic-ing supplies, lovely bath products, big fluffy towels, iPod and speaker, a great selection of movies and Cd's, starter kit for the wood burning fireplace--the cottage has everything you could possibly need. The decor was the perfect balance of chic/trendy/country--all very stylish without being over the top.
Within very easy walking distance is a spar for basic suppies; within easy walking distance is Wirksworth town centre with a variety of pubs, what looked to be two nice restaurants, a couple of tea rooms, a coffee house, a deli, a larger grocery store and some very quaint shops. Our day trips included Ilam Hall, Bakewell and the Monsal Trail and Middleton Top, all very accessible from the cottage.
My one suggestion for the cottage would be a better organisation of the brochures and attractions leaflets they had available (perhaps into a ringed binder?) and also a guest comment book--it's just nice to see what others have done to get ideas on planning.
We will definitely be back as we only scratched the surface of what the Peak District has to offer and we loved Cosy Cottage!
