Putnam Valley, NYWonderful time!
Left on 02/20/2013 for a stay in February 2013
My boyfriend and I decided to take a long relaxing weekend and chose to stay here...what a great decision! The cottage had all the comforts that anyone would need and the wood burning fireplace kept us especially toasty. The snow that fell while we were there was miniscule but was a beautiful scene - especially when you are in the hot tub! Sarah the owner and Mike the caretaker were very nice and helpful. Thank you Sarah for providing us with the house manual with tons of information regarding the cottage as well as the area. Hopefully we will be able to visit during the summer so we can enjoy the heated salt water pool!

Brooklyn, New YorkA perfect little hideaway..
Left on 02/02/2013 for a stay in January 2013
We loved our time at the Bearsville retreat Guesthouse.
It really is the perfect little hideaway, wood-stove, hot-tub, peace and quiet. Everything we needed for a weekend out of the city.
The place is newly renovated, with brand new kitchen, bathroom and everything you could possibly need, including laundry and dvd collection.
The only comment we would have is that the pillows are too hard, so will bring our own next time, but us and our first world problems eh!
The owners are wonderful, friendly and super helpful, sharing lots of tips and suggestions for the area with galleries, restaurants and hikes.
Aiming to head back very very soon and maybe one day upgrade to the big house!Response from Sarah Hale - 02/05/2013

Thanks for the timely review and the feedback on the pillows - we will sort them out this week and get some 'fluffier' ones in there in addition! See you soon. You left the place beautifully!

New York City, New YorkCozy and Beautiful Property
Left on 01/28/2013 for a stay in January 2013
I wanted to get out of the city for my birthday weekend. My husband and I decided a ski trip to the Catskills for some country air would be perfect. I am so glad that I stumbled upon the Bearsville Retreat. We stayed in the guest house (GH) which is incredibly cozy, warm, and comfortable. The kitchen and bathrooms are both brand new, and the queen size bed was extremely comfortable. We were able to sneak a peak into the main house (MH), as the friendly caretaker was there when we arrived. The main house is beautiful and spacious as well - it also has a brand new kitchen and bathroom. The best part was that the property is dog friendly and we were able to bring our beloved canine child. The entire property is completely fenced in, so our dog was able to run around freely without us worrying that he would disappear. We were able to use the outdoor hot tub, which was great after a day of skiing!
The owners Sarah and Phil wrote an amazingly detailed house manual which had information and details on everything in the house and surrounding area. Hunter mountain is a quick 30 minute drive away, and downtown Woodstock is about a 5 minute drive. There are so many cute food markets, wine stores, and little shops to visit in Woodstock.
We had an amazing time, and cannot wait to return in the warmer months! Highly recommended if you want to relax in a beautiful home in the Catskills.Response from Sarah Hale - 01/31/2013

We had an absoloutely fabulous stay at the Bearsville Retreat. Firstly the house makes a great place to relax and base yourself situated as it is right by the beautiful Catskills. The house is so comfortable and we got our full value from the time spent in the Saltwater Pool. The surrounding area is stunning with so much to do no matter what time of year. We did hiking, tubing and loads of dining out. I cannot recommend the local restaurants too highly. There is plenty of choice and the prices are more than reasonable. We have already booked to return to Bearsville Retreat in the Winter to take advantage of the 3 ski resorts all within a short drive.

had to get out of the city for a needed vacay. a friend suggested going upstate to the woods. my response...woods? after multiple rounds of lost thumb war battles, i conceded & packed a weekend bag for the wilderness. after a two hour drive from brooklyn, all i was picturing was port-a-potties and roughing it -- grizzly adams style. as we pulled up, i was pleasantly surprised! it was like a mid-century modern marvel! loved the decor -- modern amenities, yet still "log cabin" cozy that i felt i was now official: a sophisticated, mountain woman. will definitely be back with all of my non-believer city dwellers.

We loved this review! The fearful urbanite venturing out! I should clarify though for other renters the house was built by a local family in 1937 and is less mid-century and more modern eclectic interior design in a cottage/cabin in a '30s house.

Loved our stay at the Bearsville Retreat this winter! The guesthouse is beautifully done with sunlight pouring in. Loved the fireplace, and being able to cook for ourselves in the kitchen. Its only a stone's throw from town though so if you dont feel like cooking, you can head into Woodstock. We were there in the winter so didnt swim in the pool but i definitely plan to be back there for another visit! The husband and wife that own the property are super friendly too. I wish we could have stayed longer!
