Enjoy mountain views, cool breezes, very private, secluded wooded setting on the Smith River (an internationally designated trout river) in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Twenty minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, and two major Virginia wineries -- Chateau Morrisette and Villa Appalachia -- as well as 20 minutes from Floyd, internationally known for it blue grass music, flat foot dancing and the Friday night Jamboree at the Country Store. Within a 2 hour drive, you can visit over 35 wineries in Virginia and North Carolina, making us a destination similar to Tuscany or Napa! The area is also known for the "Crooked Road Music Trail" and "Round the... Mountain Artisan Trail."

The lodge is open floor plan and perfect for family/friend getaways. The home is built "green" all with tile and hardwoods with 17 foot ceilings in the great room, entry way and dining room. Floor to ceiling windows and doors bring the outside in. Wildlife abounds and the property has been designated a National Wildlife Backyard Habitat. We have seen as many as 27 wild turkeys in our yard at one time! Songbirds and hummingbirds are constant visitors and provide daily entertainment.

The kitchen is a gourmet kitchen, fully equipped and appointed. All you need to bring is your food. There are spices, condiments, teas and some other things available. A fifty foot long covered veranda and screened in porch are on the back of the house with access from the great room, kitchen and one of the downstairs bedrooms. A sauna sets on the covered veranda with a table and plenty of chairs for enjoying the deck, and a hot tub sets on a deck below the veranda in the 1000 sf enclosed garden space!

A central staircase rises up from the great room to the 650 sf master suite upstairs. Here you will find a very private space, complete with Queen size bed, rocking chair, single futon/chair, and a private deck. The master bath has a double shower and a Kohler corner soaking tub. Two pedestal sinks with mirrors complete this luxurious tiled bath with lots of light and Palladium window.

There are 1-1/2 baths down with two bedrooms, each with double beds. The great room also has a queen size futon for sleeping two other people. Also in the great room is a Fireplace Extraordinaire for those cool evenings when you want to cozy up by the fire.

There is a washer and dryer and plenty of towels for our guests. All you need to bring is food and clothes.

Courter Moon Lodge is beautiful year 'round. Thousands of bulbs and flowering bushes have been planted, so you will see a blaze of color the majority of the year -- from the early daffodils in the spring, to the daylilies in the summer, the Belgium mums in the fall, and of course, the fall leaves that everyone flocks to see in October and November!

Below the lodge, at the river, there is a picnic shelter and firepit, a hammock and a short walk....a swing. Enjoy tubing, kayaking, fishing and playing in the river. Hiking, mountain biking, walking to the waterfall, and looking for wildflowers are just a few of the activities one can do. Courter Moon Lodge is on 12 acres amidst 300+ acres!

Within a 20 minute drive, there is Fairystone State Park and Philpott Resevoir. Just 6 miles away, heading towards Floyd, there is CC Camp Road. This is the entrance to a fabulous 10.8 mile hike that takes you through Rock Castle Gorge and up to Rocky Knob on the Parkway.

Courter Moon Lodge is 50-60 minutes from Virginia Tech (Blacksburg), Christiansburg, Radford, and Roanoke. Greensboro and Winston-Salem are approximately 1-1/4 hours away, Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill approximately 2 hours away.

Courter Moon Lodge is a luxury "retreat" experience. We are on 12 acres amidst 300+. You cannot see neighbors, although there are approximately 28 homes & cabins now located in Trout Run Estates. As described in another section, towns and larger towns and cities are a driving distance. The area does not have "mass transportation."

  This is a nice house with private surroundings. We brought family together for a 4 day gathering. When needed, the owners were very kind and helpful. Depending on your preference, the somewhat remote location of this house could be an issue. Some highlights for us were the lr fireplace in the evenings, the rear porch with valley view and walking trails during the days, and the kitchen area.
