Varenna, called “pearl of the lake”, is a quaint village lying on a promontory on the east coast of Lake Como. It is a quiet lakeshore town of beautiful old houses and romantic panoramas. Olive and cypress trees testify to the mild climate of the area, along with many botanical specimens normally found in warmer climates. A romantic walkway along the lakefront links the town center with Olivedo, the landing point for ferries and steamers. Because ferries connect it to other towns on Lake Como including a car ferry, and the train comes directly from Milan centre to Varenna (train ride little more than one hour), it is an ideal base for exp...loring northern Italy as well as the southern Swiss Alps. Varenna offers many wonderful possibilities for daytrips. Explore the castle of Vezio (5 minutes walk from the villa). Visit the gardens of Villa Monastero, Bellagio and Menaggio (15 minutes by ferry), Tremezzo and the famous Villa Carlotta, and Como, with its historic monuments, churches, and shopping.
Varenna, with its brightly painted houses and flowers along the lake edge, is only 10 min by car from this property. Visitors remark on the quiet and tranquility of Varenna, the relaxation afforded by the unhurried pace of this peaceful village. Take in the lovely walk along the lake edge down to the small stone beach which is inhabited by ducks, and enjoy some ice cream or coffee from the gelaterie nearby, or sit at an outside terrace of a cafe on the water’s edge to enjoy a meal and the beautiful scenery: the calm lake, the towns of Bellagio and Menaggio across, and the snowcapped mountains in the distance. Along the arcade near the water are a few shops, boutiques, and cafes. The sporting club in Varenna (3 km) has beach facilities.
Located on a hill above Varenna, Casa Rossore has recently been restored and furnished with care by its owners. The house, set on a road that ends just five metres beyond, faces a lovely garden and has a terrace overlooking Lake Como, as well as a private pool. A shared tennis court is available too.
Below Casa Rossore, with a separate entrance, is Casa Selvina (also featured in our portfolio), a small accommodation for 4 people with its own terrace (the guests of Casa Selvina do not have access to the garden and pool of Casa Rossore unless they are rented together by the same group). Casa Rossore can be connected to Casa Selvina by one of the double bedrooms on the first floor. The two rentals together can accommodate up to 14 people (not suitable for 14 adults, but for a group also with children). On the terrace of Casa Rossore 12 people can be seated if adding the table and chairs of Casa Selvina.
On the same property, a large 60-acre estate, there are other five rentals also featured in our portfolio. If renting the entire property (Casa Rossore with a private pool, Villa Belcanto with a private pool, and the four houses Casa Selvina, Casa Vanni, Casa Donata and Casa Rosina sharing a pool) approx. up to 43 people can be accommodated on this estate.
Additional information: The red house is built on 4 floors (the lowest floor is Casa Selvina, the three upper floors belong to Casa Rossore). There are about 20 steps to access the house from the parking level, so this property is not suitable for anyone with a walking problem. The housekeeper and her family live on the property, as well as the father of the owner, who lives in a section of Villa Belcanto. There is a charming, small restaurant located within walking distance (approx. 100 m) of the property, while other restaurants, shops, ferry and railroad station are located in Varenna.Read more
The house is very clean and well-furnished. It is situated in a beautiful garden and has a small but nice swimmingpool. The view over the lake and mountains is unforgettable. There were only a few things that we didn't like: the lack of privacy due to the other properties on the premises, the fact that you have to drive 15 minutes for a supermarket or bakery and the fact that there was no remote control for the dvd-player so we couldn't watch movies with subtitles. It had been taken by previous renters but it wasn't replaced by the owner during our stay. But overall we enjoyed our stay very much!
