Restored to perfection, River Rock Cottage is perched on a quiet corner in the quaint Upper East neighborhood of Santa Barbara. In true Craftsman style, the classic architectural elements have been preserved, honoring the original integrity of this vintage 1917 home.
In December 2011, River Rock Cottage was awarded the distinguished SANTA BARBARA BEAUTIFUL AWARD for having transformed a once hidden treasure, to a stand out masterpiece in this Upper East neighborhood.
Wax nostalgic as you relax in the Adirondack chairs on the welcoming wrap-around front porch, with its smooth river rock walls, carved railings, and Craftsman curb ap...peal. An old oak tree becomes a shady canopy over the outdoor bistro table. This creates another great setting from which to enjoy the country garden below, or a great place to watch the kids playing on the front lawn.
Through the brick-red front door, the cheerful interior is steeped in charm. Original cottage-style windows offer views of the leisurely neighborhood pace outside. The living room furnishings invite conversation in front of the wood burning fireplace. Enjoy relaxed reading with a book from the well-stocked library in the built-in bookshelves. Wainscoting, maple plank flooring, and vintage lighting make this space warm and welcoming.
The Master Bedroom is directly off the living room and features a California King size bed, flat screen LED TV and more bright sunshine from corner windows.
The second bedroom has a whimsical wrought iron Queen size bed and plenty of storage with built-in cupboards.
Between the two bedrooms is the "Jack and Jill" bathroom that features dual sinks set in Carrara marble. A claw footed tub with rain shower head and handheld sprayer complete this functional bathroom. There is also a convenient powder room off the Living Room.
Even on vacation, comfort means home-cooked meals for family and friends. In the sunny galley-style kitchen, the classic restored Wedgewood stove and yellow retro-style refrigerator add whimsical ambiance. A love seat and antique breakfast table are tucked below corner windows that offer lovely views of the country garden overflowing with white roses, lavender, and culinary herbs.
Just outside the kitchen is the barbecue area, complete with a brand new gas barbecue and a collection of recreation toys including sand toys, boogie boards, and surf boards. After a day of fun in the sun, a great outdoor shower on the back porch keeps the beach sand outside!
River Rock Cottage is a restful spot in the "Historic Bungalow Haven District", offering proximity to all the best that Santa Barbara has to offer. From this prime location, walk to downtown shopping and restaurants, attend a concert at the Santa Barbara County Bowl just a few blocks away, or simply stroll the quiet streets to appreciate the well kept gardens and historic homes of the area.
Come enjoy River Rock Cottage! This fantastic vintage retreat promises to be the cornerstone of a relaxing and memorable Santa Barbara vacation.

We stayed in the lovely River Walk Cottage during the avon Walk for Breast Cancer weekend. I was a participant and it was wonderful having a beutiful place to come home to along with a comfy bed (beats camping). If you want to have a true walker experience camp at least once, then next time rent this place unless I beat you to it.
Charming and comfortable

The couple of minor issues were attended to promptly and with great courtesy. The home was beautifully decorated and well located about six blocks from Santa Barbara's main street.

This was our first time renting a house and I was a little nervous. We loved it. The location was great. The neighborhood was very quiet but yet convenient enough to walk to State Street for dinner or shopping. We had some trouble with our fridge twice but the rental company did try to take care of it in a timely manner. We loved the porch. We did not like the tub/shower very much. Not enough not to rent it again but don't rent this place if you are unsteady on your feet. The showerhead also takes a little time to get use to. It could use more washcloths, dishcloths and new bath rugs. I also would prefer a deadbolt lock between the laundry and kitchen for nights. It was clean and the bedrooms were very cozy. We received our deposit back quickly and will definitely go back. Read more
Response from Paradise Retreats-World Class Vacation Rentals - 02/11/2013
We are pleased you enjoyed your stay though we are sorry about the refrigerator not working properly. We did respond quickly to the matter in both cases. The "retro style" refrigerator is brand new but unfortunately had a manufacturer defect and had to be replaced. We are thankful this renter was patient and worked with us to resolve the issues. The bathtub is a traditional claw foot style in keeping with the historic home and therefore may not be suitable for all ages. Since this review, we have added more washcloths and dish towels. The back door of the home indeed goes through the laundry room, but once the back door is locked the home is secure and a deadbolt as suggested would be redundant and not necessary. We always appreciate reviews as it helps us to provide the best possible service for our guests.
Great little cottage

This cottage is perfect for 2 couples or a family of 4. The inside is very cozy and well appointed. Personally, I love the wrap around porch. Great for breakfast in the morning and for drinks in the evening. Location is close enough to walk to all attractions and far away enough to get a good night's sleep.

Quaint, comfortable and spacious for 3-4 people. Shared bath with claw foot tub. Unfortunately the tub/shower was a bit narrow for my husband - just took some time to adjust. Otherwise a 5 star rating.
