Combine the most gracious and spacious beach home in the best location in Xcalak with the gorgeous Caribbean Sea and the second longest Coral Reef in the world in the back yard, and you have the formula for a truly amazing and relaxing get-away vacation. The marine area was recently named a National Reef Park ensuring future protection.

Built in 2004,... Casa de Paloma was designed for relaxed beach living and to capture every ocean breeze. All rooms have a sea view. We enjoy time there each year with our family and friends and pride ourselves in keeping it attractive, clean and comfortable for ourselves as well as our guests. There are 4 King size bedrooms (2 down, 2 up) each with their own bathroom and closet. Both levels have a complete dining, living and full kitchen in an open area between the bedrooms. Mexican accents include rugs, blankets, pillows, Talevera sinks, dishes and glasses. Framed maps of the area hang on the walls and are helpful when planning excursions. Our handsome Mexican hardwood furniture is sturdy and comfortable and was built by craftsmen in a local sawmill/carpentry shop.

Flexible rental options include the entire house to sleep 8 or half the house to sleep 4. (single brm or single brm w/kitchen also available.) Contact us for details on renting on just one level of the house. Rentals are available for a three day minimum up to several months.

The house is beautifully landscaped with bougainvillea, frangi pangi, hibiscus, orchids, lilies and coconut palms and has large balconies, hammocks and lots of sea breezes and palm trees to keep you cool and in the shade. Our green construction includes solar panels for electricity, on-demand water heaters for ready hot water and a rainwater cistern for bathing, laundry and dishwashing.

And, best of all, this all comes with ROSA AND CECILIO, THE MOST WONDERFUL CARETAKERS ON THE YUCATAN PENINSULA! Excellent employees and problem solvers, they are our secret ingredient in guaranteeing a truly relaxing get-away with few concerns. From cleaning, laundry, translating, grocery shopping, house maintenance, daily beach cleaning, they will make your stay a vacation..

Our location in Xcalak is the best for several reasons. Just 1.5 miles to town makes it a nice flat walk or easy bike ride for groceries or exercise – or to visit the school or the park office – or to get a pedicure from Candy in her pink and purple “salon” – or to get to a great meal. The dining in Xcalak is one of the biggest surprises of all. As small and remote as we are, the area continues to attract outstanding inventive chefs who are looking to slow down their pace of life and still practice their craft with local ingredients. Casa de Paloma is very close to the three perennial best: Leaky Palapa, Costa de Cocos and Tierra Maya.

And for your own cooking, the venderos (small grocery trucks) deliver fresh produce and hot tortillas to your door several times a week. There are also some small tiendas in town with staples. Ask about the bakery for fresh bread and the local fishing co-op for fish and lobster. And be sure to have some of the locally made tamales or crema de poblano! Simple, delicious and you don’t have to cook!

Xcalak is a world class heaven for fishermen/women, snorkelers/divers and birdwatchers. Snorkel and fish right off the dock for snapper and bonefish and swim to numerous nearby coral heads to see Angelfish, Clownfish, etc. etc. Or charter one of our incredibly knowledgeable local fishing captains (Capt. Victor is our favorite…and he has brothers and sons!) to go a little farther for tarpon, barracuda, permit, snook or bonefish in the flats of Chetumal Bay. Scuba divers will find several dive masters ready to certify or guide to outstanding locations including Chinchorra Reef , the largest diving atoll in North American, just 30 miles off shore. For birdwatchers, there is Bird Island with the hefty Wood Stork or Reoseate Spoonbill. Or just look up everyday to see Frigate Birds, Yucatan Jays, Baltimore Orioles, Goldfinch, Pelicans, Egrets, Ibis, Parrots, Doves right around Casa de Paloma.Read more

CASA DE PALOMA IS VERY FLEXIBLE IN THE SPACE THAT CAN BE RENTED. IT IS BUILT AS AN UP AND DOWN DUPLEX WITH A KITCHEN-LIVING-DINING ROOM AND 2 BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS ON EACH LEVEL.

A PARTY OF 8 MAY RENT THE ENTIRE HOUSE OR EACH LEVEL MAY BE RENTED SEPARATELY TO ACCOMODATE 4. ONE BEDROOM AND THE KITCHEN DINING LIVING BELOW MAY BE AVAILABLE OR ONE BEDROOM DOWN MAY BE ADDED FOR A PARTY OF 6 WITH THE UPSTAIRS.. WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU!

  We recently spent a week at this beautiful home and I can't quit thinking about it. The house was wonderful . . . homey and comfortable, and had everything we needed. The private beach was gorgeous. We spent most of our time either reading outside on the back porch or snorkeling off the end of the (neighbor's) dock. The snorkeling was amazing, and right out the back door! We were worried about the heat, but the constant breeze from the ocean kept it comfortable. We met some dog friends who lived close by and they visited daily. The caretakers were great . . . . helpful, but unobtrusive. If you want a vacation that is totally relaxing, this is the place. Unplug, relax, let go . . .

  Casa Paloma is a truly beautiful property, which is extremely well maintained. It has all one may think of at home (dvd, cd player, fully equipped kitchen, immaculate bathrooms), plus the most magical views of the Caribbean. Xcalak feels remote and is indeed a perfect place to disconnect from all. The sea is just amazing and feels like the private swimming pool of Casa Paloma...The house is very well located, close enough to town, close to diving activities, close to restaurants if lazy to cook at home. The caretakers are wonderful people, who make sure everything is in order during the stay. The owners are very responsive and make any logistics so easy to coordinate. Thank you Casa Paloma for an unforgettable experience, we will definitely be back soon!

  The house is just poutside Xcalac right on the sea and therefore is quiet and private, but not isolated as the caretakers live across the road and there is another house next door.
  
  You couldn't be closer to the sea unless you were in a boat and the white sand and the palm trees are beautiful.
  Once you have paddled out the sea is warm and welcoming and snorkle friendly.
  The house itself majors on comfortable beds, good fly screens and plenty of space. The owner is very concerned that you enjoy yourself so the equipment is good especially the linens, bottled water and the TV DVD. There is no TV as such, but there is Wi FI and the house comes complete with a dozen or so Dvds and a few books.
  I satyed for two months and am coming back next year for more.
  I just love the place.
  Tom is easy to do business with and Rosa and Cecilio are great caretakers.
  If you like fishing diving and or snorkling you will be very happy here.

  My first visit to Casa de Paloma was in 2008 and I have visited every year since then. I am planning another trip to the casa in 2011-my fourth visit. There is something theraputic about visiting Xcalak and staying in this lovely, comfortable,well maintained home directly on the beautiful beach overlooking the barrier reef. Rosa and Cecilio are perfect caretakers-available if needed but not ever in the way. The little town has great restaurants and getting around on a bike is a fun way to travel. If you are looking for a unique vacation for relaxing, fishing, diving, or visiting the Mayan ruins you should really visit Casa de Paloma---I guarantee you will be a repeat guest.
