Finally, a location that lives up to all the promise of the advertisement.
A fantastic house which allows you to settle in and feel at home from the moment you arrive. All modern facilities available to an extremely high standard (even cable and satellite should this interest you) An extremely private bush location which allows you to feel that you are completely hidden from the outside world, yet one is minutes away from some of the most beautiful beaches.
The area abounds with art galleries, wine estates and shopping facilities, and yet offers a complete escape from the humdrum.
So often one is disappointed with the accommodation not living up to the promise made in the advertisement. Especially when booking from South africa...
Ionise ticks all the boxes and then some. So many considerate touches make one feel immediately at home, a rare experience indeed.
I can't wait until we have the opportunity to make a return visit.
I cannot recommend this location highly enough. -

The situation is all you could wish. A funky house settled in a huge lot which gives the feeling of being completely in the bush but with Dunsborough (for supermarkets, shops and some restaurants) a mere seven minutes away.
On our first night we took a stroll around the house and saw several kangaroos which for us non Ozzies was absolutely superb. Best part was they seemed to stay around the house – never too close but one morning I came out to empty our bin and a young one was just lying 20 feet away – calm as anything – lovely.
The house is well set up with everything you might need for a long stay. Not super luxurious but more than adequate. If you open all the blinds you feel you are right in the forest – very special. It also is unbelievably peaceful – quiet like I can’t remember *hearing* for years! The stars at night were just a delight.
Why not five stars?
The master bed wasn’t the most comfortable but more importantly is creaky – to the point of irritation for me. I would replace it - ideally with a king size.
We were here as a couple but if you come with friends in the summer prepare to toss up as the master is the only room with individual air-conditioning.
The house is ideally built for outside / inside living. But the deck furniture – while quirky and photogenic – is plain uncomfortable. A visit to the plastic wicker shop for a couple of outside sofas or armchairs would dramatically improve the use of space and give the house a slightly needed lift. Just noticed on writing this review that the furniture in the photos is not the same that is there now. Imho a mistake.
In saying that we had a brilliant time. The handover was seamless. The nature incredible. A slight problem with the TV and Wifi were dealt with speedily and professionally. The location for things to do is wonderful. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you stay here.Response from Gaynor King - 04/04/2012

Thanks for your feedback - really appreciate it. We are attending to the bed "creak" following your feedback. FYI all our beds are actually king size. You are correct - we do have some new furniture - as we continuously replace our furniture as it begins to wear and tear - we have replaced the dining table, outdoor furniture and the bar stools recently. Thanks again, Gaynor

Awesome house, great decor, amazingly well equipped top of the range kitchen and Pierre Cardin beds! Proper luxury break and great setting in the bush, but a quick drive to town, and fantastic base for exploring the region. It's much bigger than it looks in the pictures, and just as stunning in real life. Shame we didn't have time to spend longer there- we will definitely stay again and recommend it to friends and family.
Obviously it won't be suitable if you want to stay at the beach, and it was relatively expensive as there was just 2 of us, but if you had 6 people it would represent phenomenal value. -

A while ago we stayed in Ionise with our friends and it was the perfect place to stay. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable stay in this beautiful house. The setting is great in the middle of the bush with the kangaroos (many of them) dropping by in the evening. The house and kitchen are very well equipped, and every detail has been thought of. Loved the artwork as well.
You often see the sentence” your home away from home”, well, at Ionise you do have that feeling. It is the perfect spot for a romantic or relaxing weekend away or for spending some great time with friends or family.
Having breakfast or coffee on the deck in the morning was so relaxing and peaceful. For lunch we would go to one of the wineries and in the evening we preferred to stay in having a BBQ on the deck with some nice wine and fresh produce from the region.
The Margaret River region is fantastic with all the wineries, galleries and stunning beaches and everything is very close to Ionise. What else can you ask for, apart from Ionise being closer to Singapore, I really wouldn't know!
Would love to go back to australia sometime in the near future and hope to be able to enjoy another great stay at Ionise.
Tips: Go to the Yallingup Woodfired bakery late afternoon to buy some fresh bread and/or the Margaret River Venison farm for some great meat for the BBQ.

We stayed for the Labour Day weekend and could not have been happier with Ionise. It is in a beautiful location in the bush very close to both Dunsborough and Yallingup. We did not want for a single thing, it had all been thought of in the setting up of this fantastic house. High end appliances, beautiful character furniture, even the art on the walls is lovely.
We can't wait to get back to Ionise, congratulations to the owners on setting up a brilliant place to stay.Response from Gaynor King - 03/08/2011

The stay we had at Ionise was very restful with all the comforts of home helping keep us relaxed. The house was very clean at arrival with some complimentary wine and a good spread of condiments in the pantry. A quick Dunsborough stopover in The Green Room on the way down and the proximity of the nearby Yalingup Woodfired Bakery make it easy to stay in and enjoy the scenery and watch the kangaroos hop around the bush in the morning and evenings.

My fiance and I chose Ionise as our base to introduce my sister and her boyfriend to the Margaret River Region, on their first trip to Australia from Canada.
I was impressed with Ionise from the photos on the net however once I arrived my expectations were surpassed. The decor, the layout and the cleanliness of the accommodations create a welcoming atmosphere of relaxation.
The kitchen is so well appointed that you feel like you're in your own kitchen (or even better!)
Every drawer in the living room holds great surprises, from dvds and cds to a deluxe scrabble board, novels, magazines, coffee table books on the region and a host of pamphlets on various services, products and experiences in the area.
If it weren't for the fact that we were in a world renowned wine region and close to breathtaking beaches we wouldn't have left the comfort and class of Ionise.
The crowning glory? A lovely tall tree off of the back deck was home to a family of three black cockatoos. Mom and Dad would fly off, leaving baby behind for a short time. Their return would signal dinner time. Who needs cable?? We also saw a mob of kangaroos and were in heaven being surrounded by nature.
Our experience at Ionise was incredible. It is the best place I've stayed at and thankfully since we live in Perth, we'll be able to be back!
Thank you Ionise, for creating a perfect place to disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with loved ones surrounded by nature's beauty with all the comforts of home. -

Left on 01/14/2010 for a stay in December 2009
The place is very clean and spacious, it's much bigger than what I saw on
their website (bonus point there). Three rooms are pretty big and people
can get pretty comfortable in the room and are able to relax in the room
with different view.
Extremely quiet environment which is nice to have, we could get good sleep
at night and enjoy the nature in the day. This places gives everything we
need, all the BBQ equipments, big screen (50" HD TV), home theater,
outdoor shower, fire place (I love fire place) and more ...
Location of this place is also great, appro. 10 minutes drive to local
supermarket/mall and beaches.
What I like the most, great value you get from the super effort the owner
has put into on this place.
P.S. There were LOTS of flies in the region in December but surprisingly
there were not many (probably 5) around the house. I didn't need my fly
net at all!!

Left on 11/28/2009 for a stay in February 2009
On recommendations from friends, a group of us flew into Perth from
around Asia & enjoyed the magical drive to Margaret River for a week of rest
and relaxation at Ionise.
The accommodations were spacious and comfortable. So much so that there
was no need to fight over who sleeps where. All offered king-sized beds,
fantastic local art works, high ceilings, and plenty of fresh air and light. The
ample bathrooms also meant no queuing or fighting over mirror time. Hot
showers outside at sunset in the midst of acres of private bush-land, with
kangaroos grazing nearby were the most amazing experience.
The kitchen would make a Michelin-starred chef proud. Everything was on-
hand and the open layout meant even preparing meals was enjoyable as
friends lingered over cocktails adding laughter and warmth to the food
being prepared. Even when we had a few new friends over for a BBQ, Ionise
still felt palatial.
Whether lazing in the hammock reading a book, walking around the
property itself, sinking into the over-sized sofa or making your way
through the extensive DVD library, it was simply tranquil.
Before arriving at Ionise we had envisaged a homestead in the middle of
nowhere. Once we got there we realized it was more akin to a private resort
like nowhere else. We had to remind ourselves where we were – in the
center of one of Australia’s finest wine producing regions – and ventured
out on various day-trips. (Ionise has it’s own veritable “Luxe Guide” for
visitors, pointing out some of the local hidden gems.) Literally around the
corner was an expansive olive plantation. The freshest olive oil, wood-fired
bread and local produce made for sumptuous lunches. A few minutes drive
away were the local shops - great for stocking up for those lazy nights in. A
few minutes further are some of the world’s most amazing beaches,
galleries, and wineries. Needless to say our "best beaches of the world list"
rewritten for us and a few cases of award winning wines came back home
with us! -

Sydney, AustraliaA stylish, luxury getaway in a unique Australian setting.
Left on 11/12/2009 for a stay in October 2009
This home is truly beautiful; well designed, stylishly decorated and it completely reflects the beauty of the Australian landscape that it is set amongst.
We stayed there with our two teenage children, who thoroughly enjoyed the ability to explore the bush, spot kangaroos and other wildlife(of which there were plenty!) and then sit by the open fire, eating enormous quantites of warm freshly baked bread from the wood-fired bakery five minutes down the road.
The house is well located from both the beach and also the township of Dunsborough, should you wish to eat out or get supplies, but during our stay, we chose to hang out at the house and cook, because the kitchen was just so well equipped.
The beds were really comfortable and it was really lovely to go to sleep in such an incredibly quiet environment. Despite having neighbouring houses close by, we felt completely private.
We would happily stay there again - our only regret was that our holiday wasn't long enough!

We rave about Ionise to anyone who cares to listen! We've stayed twice and will do again. If you are looking for peace and tranquility as well as style and comfort, don't look further than Ionise. Coffee or wine out on the patio watching the black cockatoo's or the kangaroo's is a favourite memory. Beautiful! Value for money also.

I will never forget my stay in Yallingup. I was stressed from various events in my life when I arrived there but as soon as I walked in, all those stresses fell away and I just relaxed completely.
The house itself is beautifully appointed with every possible comfort anyone could require. Excellent bedrooms with really comfortable beds and well appointed bathrooms. The living areas are very comfortable and relaxing plus cooking is a pleasure with all the utensils one could need.
Finally, one of the loveliest things for me was to see the kangaroos playing out in the garden. Wish I was going back again tomorrow!!!
