I only can confirm what others have been posting. Only there is something more, I cannot describe it, which made it special for me. On our 4 week travel around the Southwest us this is the best place to stay. This may sound odd, but i lost my dad at a young age, and meeting Gary and Rickey made me feel so home, like something I have been missing for so long. The kindness and warmth. The apartment is very nice, good equipped, lovely surroundings, but the hosts made it so more special. A big thank you, you are wonderful people.

Relaxing, comfy stay with wonderful hosts

Left on 05/09/2013 for a stay in April 2013

Gary and Rickey were excellent hosts. They were very welcoming on arrival, showed us around the apartment and gave us information and suggestions on places to go and what to see. They had left useful maps and guide books about the area in the apartment. They went the extra mile and lent us binoculars to take to the park. My husband had managed to get sunburnt on a previous leg of our trip and Gary insisted on lending him his hat to prevent further damage!

The apartment was clean and comfortable. The kitchen has a full-size oven/hob, fridge with ice compartment and microwave. We found the fridge slightly noisy at night, if this would bother you, you may want to bring earplugs. Also the bedroom had net privacy curtains but no curtains to shut out sunlight in the mornings, so again if this would be a problem for you, you may want to bring an eye mask.

The layout of the apartment is such that the kitchen/living/dining area and the bunk beds and sofa bed are in the same room. There is a separate master bedroom. This may make it a little cramped for a family of five but we were only two so this didn't affect us.

The apartment is about 45 minutes' drive from the park but we didn't mind this at all; the views were great on the way in. Also we were away from the busier campsites and accommodation within the park (which is much more expensive). The apartment is in a lovely quiet area, giving a real feel of being 'away from it all'. The town of Mariposa is about 7 miles away and has a good supermarket, gas station and several restaurants.

We were glad to have free wifi at the location. Overall the apartment is brilliant and excellent value-for-money but Gary and Rickey are what really make it great.

      Amazing place and hosts

Left on 04/08/2013 for a stay in March 2013

We stayed here for eight nights before Easter. Gary and Rickey were first class hosts. The accommodation was perfect for our family of four. On arrival we were provided with information on where to go and how to get there. The apartment had everything you would expect and more. My two boys loved the place. They were given a full tour of the 5 acre property and even took a drive on Gary's sit on mower which made there holiday. All of this whilst my wife and I sat on the patio with a nice glass of wine.

It was about 40 minute drive to the west entrance of the park but this just flies by as you take in the beautiful scenery. There is also plenty of hiking in the vicinity of the apartment which meant we did not have to hit the park everyday. Spent a day skiing at Badger's Pass which was probably just over an hour drive.

Highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere away from the crowds.

our family has returned to this cozy retreat year after year. Every time we go the owners have made small upgrades and it's even sweeter than the previous time. We were once again welcomed with yummy snacks and a clean place to feel like home while on vacation! They are available and knowledgeable about helping save time and money with recommendations. We have never been disappointed and will continue to tell our friends about this little hidden jewel.
We joke about the owner being "Ranger Gary". So friendly and very knowledgeable! thanks Ranger Gary and Rickey for your hospitality!!!

      Better than expected

Left on 02/28/2013 for a stay in February 2013

We stayed 4 nights in February in hopes of shooting Horsetail Fall in Yosemite.

Can't say much else that has not been written in other reviews. Everything is just as good or better than advertised! We loved the personal touches that Gary and Rickey have build into this apartment. Snacks, wine glasses, coffee & tea with sugar, hair/personal products, some kitchen amenities and so on. It was like a regular motel! I had to install tire chains one morning and noticed there are large strips of carpeting on each side of the vehicle to lay on under the covered parking. Not sure if this was intended but it worked out well! There is also a windshield washing "station" in the carport. We were hit with a wayward snowstorm that dumped about 7" in Midpines but only 1" in the valley. The power was knocked out and Gary brought over lamps and a portable heater, run off a generator, but we didn't need that. We cooked a few meals and used the outdoor grill for some steaks. The kitchen was well stocked with cookware and utensils and even had a rice cooker!

We also loved eating breakfast at Sugar Pines Cafe in Mariposa. Doubled up on the cheese grits, 3 mornings They are the bomb!

Overall a great stay. The price is right and we will be back again. Thanks Gary & Ricky. Hopefully the Horsetail will show herself next year!

Clean & Comfortable Get-Away Near Yosemite

Left on 09/04/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Gary and Rickey's apartment was a perfect find for our stay in Yosemite! It was situated approximately 45 min from the park entrance but we were happy to make the drive every day in lieu of paying much higher prices (and getting so much less!) to stay somewhere closer to or in the park. The apartment was well furnished, very clean and you feel like you are staying with family with Gary and Rickey's genuine hospitality. The pictures they have posted online are completely representative of what the place looks like. It was nice to be able to cook a meal there in the apartment or make the 10 min drive into Mariposa where there were several cute restaurants to choose from. We would recommend the place to anyone and will definitely stay there again when we revisit Yosemite. Gary & Rickey, Your kc friends look forward to coming back in the spring sometime!

We stayed at JuniperCrest for 3 nights in aug 2012. The apartment was clean, well stocked, quiet, and secluded. It was a hike to the valley in Yosemite, but the town of Mariposa was close and offered shopping and great restaurants for a day off from the park. The best part of the stay was meeting the owners, Ricky and Gary. They were gracious and accommodating. We will be back!

The 3-night's stay at JuniperCrest was a very good experience. This place was just like home for us. There are stove, microwave, pots, plates and other kitchen utensils which are very convenient. Gary provided us with portable crib and Diaper Genie when he saw our 1-year-old. He also gave us a wide selection of complementary snacks. My four-year-old fell in love with the sturdy wooden bunkbed and the story books. Gary pointed out the directions to the great attractions in Yosemite and gave us several Yosemite maps. This is a very clean, quiet, comfortable and outstanding place.

Juniper Crest is about 1-hour drive from Yosemite valley.
There's a small gas station about 5 minutes from JunierCrest but it's the opposite direction to Yosemite.

The bathroom has been updated and the laminent floors were a nice touch. Use of the grill and the decks is also a plus. Gary and Rickey are gracious and helpful hosts. We forgot our binoculars and Gary happily let us borrow a pair. The location is perfect! It gets you out of the madness of Yosemite Valley and to a location that is very quiet and peaceful. It was nice to sit out and watch the stars and the sunset at night. This is a no frills place that is very well maintained and a great value. When we come back we will stay here again! Don't worry about the drive in (35 minutes or so) it is well worth it!

We stayed at Juniper Crest for 2 nights this July with our 3 children. The apartment is small, but clean and comfortable. The beautiful spaces outside (deck, patio and pool) more than compensated. Gary and Rickey greeted us warmly, provided extra snacks and pool towels and gifts when we left. They really made us feel like family.

It was nice to have access to the deck (and gas barbeque)for our evening meals. Gary was helpful with advice on where to go in Yosemite and surrounding areas. The drive from Juniper Crest, along the Merced River to the West Gate of Yosemite was a pleasant drive and we happily drove this every day (which took about 40 minutes).

Above all, it's the welcoming and friendly personality of Gary and Rickey, the owners. Gary is like a ranger - any tip or advise from him is a good one. He knows every little corner in the valley and was always happy to share his knowledge with us. The appartment is very cozy for a family with 1-2 kids. The kitchen is very well equiped and there's a grill on the balcony that allows to prepare great meals. Sitting outside for breakfast or dinners was fantastic. After a long day in the park it was great to come home (that was our feling about it) and enjoy the peaceful property. We stayed for 4 nights and I wish we could stay there for few more days.

Staying here worked out perfect for us during our 4-day visit to Yosemite Nat'l Park. Located about 22 miles from east entrance it takes about 35 minutes to drive along the Merced River. All the cooking and eating utensils are there and they provide the coffee too. Additionally there were a selection of snacks (trailmix, granola, dried fruit, cookies, microwave popcorn) provided. There are two air conditioners and we found turning off the one in bedroom and leaving the other on worked best. Kept us cool with the daytime temps in upper 90's and it dropped nicely at to 60's. The water volume in the small shower was a little low but I'm guessing that's just California water conservation requirements. Though we didn't use it there was Dish satelite access on the TV in bedroom. Guests have use of the plant lined patio & furniture just outside the door along with gas grill and swing higher up on a hillside. Gary was very helpful in mapping out trails for us to follow keeping in mind our physical abilities. I recommend you stop in Oakhurst at the Ralley's or Von's for groceries as their prices are somewhat more reasonable. We had icechest to keep perishables for the 30 minute ride from there. Will definitely stay here again if we travel to Yosemite in the future.

From the minute we arrived the Fransisco's welcomed us like family. The check-in was quick and easy. They welcomed my fiancee and I with tons of information on the park and on Mariposa. We even received a welcome container filled with fresh fruit. Our stay was only for a few days and we spend most of it in the park therefore we were not able to take full advantage of the property surroundings. We were able to see that there was a small pool, a gas grill and patio, and a few walking trails. The home was clean and cozy. It had everything we needed and more. The size of the apartment was perfect for the two of us and could comfortably accommodate 2 small children. The location is about a 45 minute ride to Yosemite but it is a gorgeous drive along the Merced River, just roll down the windows and breath in the clean, crisp fresh air. Gary and Rickey were kind enough to also provide us with additional information on our next stop, Napa Valley and we even made an additional stop in Sausalito, Ca based on Gary's recommendation. We would recommend this place to our friend's and wouldn't hesitate to return on our next trip to Yosemite.

My wife and i were visiting Yosemite for the first time and worked hard to find suitable accommodations. The effort paid off very well when we found Juniper Crest. Not only is it a first class spot but the owners Gary and Rickey are friendly, helpful and take great pride in their place. They provide everything necessary for a stay near Yosemite - including info about the area and park.

My wife left her favorite travel coffee cup in the micro when we departed and Gary contacted us immediately via e-mail and mailed the cup to our home.

This was a cross country drive for us and we traveled 8995 miles and stayed at many nice places. Juniper Crest is definitely one of the best and we will return on our next visit to Yosemite. I will re3commend it to friends and family who travel here.

We really enjoyed our stay at Juniper Crest. It fell like coming home after a eay in Yosemite. Very clean and plenty of ammeneties. Glen and Rickey were as nice as could be, and made sure we had everything we needed. It was nice to have a quiet place to come back to after a day in the park. It's a bit outside the park so you will spend about 1.5-2 hrs round trip per day driving to and from the park, so that is something to keep in mind. Wish we had more time to spend there Would definitely recommend to anyone staying out that way. Gave 4 stars on value because it was $25 per night extra per kid which bumped up the price from the base rate quick, but you can't beat all the comforts and the privacy. (Other nit-picky stuff: Could use paring and slicing knives in the kitchen, and would like control over motion lights on the porch. Glen happily turned off the lights for us when I mentioned this.)

      Comforts of Home

The apartment's scaled down home comforts combined with the spacious patio provide a relaxing setting for our time away from the park. The combination of the master queen and bunked twin beds provided a comfortable sleeping arrangement for our family of 4. Any concerns we had with the sharing of Gary and Rickey's space were quickly put at ease with their laid back hospitality. Overall great value that complimented our first Yosemite experience very well.

      Pleasant and Peaceful

Our stay and Juniper Crest was so nice! The owners were both personable and helpful. The apartment was very clean and well cared for. We were able to buy food and cook several of our meals in the apartment. Rickey brought us fruit shortly after we arrived which hit the spot after our travels. After spending our days in Yosemite, it was nice to come back to this peaceful, quiet place for a good nights sleep. The bunk beds, the kids slept on were a little hard, but the kids didn't seem to mind. We would do it again!

      Peaceful Setting and Friendly Hosts

Left on 06/12/2011 for a stay in June 2011

Our stay at Yosemite Juniper Crest was a delight! It was clean and comfortable, in a rural setting, and we were able to prepare and eat most of our meals there. We enjoyed the drive to Yosemite, but note that it takes about 35 to 45 minutes to the park entrance, and another 15 minutes to the parking lots. We would recommend the accommodations to any of our friends, whether traveling singly, with significant other, or families. Our hosts, Gary and Rickey were very helpful and friendly, making for a very personal, and memorable trip.

      Comfy stay, great owners

I was here on Mem day wknd with friends. It's a really cozy place with everything we needed. If we didn't have something, we could just ask the owners next door. We asked for a hair dryer one night, and it was no problem. Great people. The place is so quiet. It was nice to not be in a noisy campground or hotel. This place was perfect for our needs. Thank you so much!

We just returned home from a ten day trip around California and Juniper Crest was our favorite place we stayed. If you like a clean, quiet, peaceful setting after a long day of taking in as much as you can around Yosemite, then this is your place. Gary and Rickey were there if you wanted suggestions on local points of interest but were not intrusive in any way. Nice people!

Great Private apartment close to Mariposa and Yosemite

Left on 03/23/2011 for a stay in December 2010

Service at Juniper Crest was attentive with a friendly and efficient check in and check out. Whats great about the apartment we stayed in is thats its clean and comfortable and big enough for a family with kids. The apartment, which has its own private entrance, has a full kitchen which allows you to cooks meals and prepare box lunches, keeping costs down. The bathroom is small but updated and has a shower thats a bit tight, otherwise satisfactory. The decor is country but in a nice way and the grounds are great for kids to play and run around in. Juniper Crest is midway between Yosemite NP and Marisposa and is an easy drive into town for supplies. The drive along the Merced River from Juniper Crest into Yosemite NP is spectacular at any time of the year but especially when the white water is running. All told, My wife and I thought Juniper Crest was homey, comfortable, and reasonably priced. We'd definitely stay there next time we visit Yosemite

The Francisco's were very helpful owner/operators. They were willing to answer any questions about the area and give suggestions to helpful scheduling. Maps and even personal tours were available if we were interested! The rental was very clean and in a safe enviroment. It was nice being just 30 minutes away from Yosemite so that we could have nice beds, cooking facility, and cozy place every night to sleep and explore during the day. The Merced River is very close for summer months. We have stayed there every season for many years and plan on continuing our family vacations at their rental. Very helpful andnice folks.
