fresno, caSecond trip to this place - Love it!
Left on 05/04/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We stayed last summer at Pine arbor Retreat with friends last summer and had a blast. My husband and I love going to Yosemite to hike and from Fresno, it is a short trip.
This time we stayed at the jumping deer on our recent visit. The owners were very nice and gave us lots of information on the nearby hiking trails we had not tried before. One hike was to the henness fire lookout. It was a short hike but had a great view of Merced as the sun set. I highly recommend this nice apartment if you want to enjoy nature in the quiet woods. We saw some reviews about the steps, but we didn't see the problem. We have gone to Europe where the steps are much more challenging

Left on 05/04/2013 for a stay in April 2013
We had an enjoyable stay at the Jumping Deer. It was just perfect for the two of us. So we just wanted to thank you. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen had everything we needed. The little community that the house is in, is a great location for seeing Yosemite.?? The WiFi was a plus. We could not get good cellphone reception in Yosemite so the WiFi at the rental allowed us to keep in
touch with our family at home. Thanks again. -

My husband and I spent three nights in Yosemite in February. The apartment was cozy and comfortable. We had everything we needed. The cleaning staff left a small bowl with candies and treats. Very nice!
Last year in March we stayed in the house above with our group of friends and had a great time. But this time we wanted to have just a simple getaway from our jobs.
It was a perfect place for our getaway. I would highly recommend this property.

Sydney, AustraliaGreat home away from home in Yosemite West
Left on 12/11/2012 for a stay in September 2012
This was our second visit to beautiful Yosemite. Last year we stayed in a Loft condo (managed by Scenic Wonders) but since we booked almost 12 months in advance this time, we had more options to choose from.
The Jumping Deer is a good sized apartment on the ground floor of a building (Pine arbor) in Yosemite West (inside park boundaries). We loved having a full sized kitchen and enjoyed the BBQ on the veranda one night. Bed was comfortable. There was coffee, filters, salt, pepper and other cooking condiments. We also liked all the modern touches such as LCD TV, modern kitchen bench/sink and new vanity in bathroom.
It was great to unwind in the comforts of our ‘own home’ after hiking and the location is just ideal.
We will definitely return to our favourite National Park and stay at the Jumping Deer again.Response from Pete and Betsy - 12/13/2012

Livermore, CaliforniaExcellent Location to Yosemite's Valley Floor and Glacier Point.
Left on 11/05/2012 for a stay in October 2012
As a family of four, we decided to take a 3-day weekend and spend it in one of the most beautiful places on earth. I used Trip advisor to help locate this place, and reviews from Ta as well as other websites convinced me that it was a great place to stay. Conveniently located within the Park and less than 20-25 minutes from everything we wanted to see, it boasted a newly remodeled kitchen and new carpet and flooring, so we felt great about our selection.
We arrived after dark and were able to get the key from the office, though the office was closed. We found an envelope with our name on it and the key and directions/map inside, taped to the office door. Don't rely on your GPS to get you to the front door, and I would recommend having the owner or property manager email the map in advance because finding it in the dark was a little challenging. But we found the place, and didn't realize there were 63 steps to go down to get to the rental entry. It is located on the backside of the building, on the bottom floor, and the stairs have solar lighting, which barely works for an hour after sundown because of the tree canopy surrounding the property. So, make sure you have a working flashlight and anticipate stairs.
Upon first impression, the rental was exactly what we had hoped for -- a one-bedroom with new carpet, kitchen floors, beautiful granite countertops in the kitchen and bath, high-quality undercounter stainless deep sink with Kohler faucet, brand new stove/oven, and the bathroom complimented to kitchen with the same granite and a clear vessel sink with another high-quality faucet. Though the microwave and refrigerator were older, they were in great working condition. The kitchen was fully stocked with dishes, flatware, utensils, pots & pans, coffee maker & coffee, and assorted spices. The living area had a new sofa sleeper and a flat panel TV with VHS/DVD players. There was a good selection of movies to chose from, or you could check out movies from the office at no charge or bring your own. The amoire in the bedroom contained additional clean bedding, and we had brought a queensize blow-up bed w/bedding since our kids didn't want to share the sofa sleeper -- there was plenty of room to put it in the living room at night and we put it on the bed in the bedroom during the day. In fact, we never opened the sofa sleeper, just took the backpillows off and put the sheet and blankets over it.
In the light of morning is where the rental lost a star. We went to eat an early lunch on the patio and the table and chairs were dirty -- not just with dirt and pine needles, but with coffee spills and sticky stuff on the table and two of the four chairs. I did find cleaning spray under the sink, so I cleaned it. I went to put our grocery away, and due to the limited space, wanted to use the top of the fridge to put our cereal, bread, etc. It was covered in that gummy, oily residue you find in kitchens, so I cleaned that too. While cleaning I discovered the underside of the handles for the fridge and microwave were black with grime, so I cleaned that too. I went ahead and scraped out the goo in the corners of the microwave door too. We notified the office before we left for the day about tightening the handles on every pot & pan -- they were very loose and ready to fall off, too dangerous to use.
The office fixed the pans while we were out enjoying to gorgeous weather and views surrounding us. It was so easy to get to the Valley Floor, and so glad we opted to stay within the Park since traffic can get bad. It wasn't very crowded this time of year, and we reserved the 2-hour open-air tram ride around the Valley Floor so we could have a ranger tell us about the Park as we enjoyed the views. We had a relaxing day and returned to the rental to have dinner. We packed food as if we were camping since grocery stores are not close by, but don't stress too much because you can find food at the Yosemite Hotel and the museum at Glacier Point, but it's expensive. So after dinner, I started the dishwasher, only to find out it didn't work. So I had to wash all the dishes by hand and it was at that point I decided to write-up a punch list for the rental.
The next morning I gave the office the punch list of what needed repair or cleaning and all the things I had already cleaned -- the doors still had hand grime and dirt, the bathroom baseboards were filthy, cobwebs in the kitchen window, the wicker nightstand full of dust in the cracks and needs hosing down, and the bedside lamp and two lights in the kitchen entry were out. We left for the day and hoped the office would have everything fixed. When we returned, the lights were working but the dishwasher was not and the doors and baseboards had an oily residue on them. I had to clean the oil off the doors and floors so we wouldn’t fall and washed all the dishes by hand, again. The repair guy from the office showed up around 8 pm to try to fix it, but we were getting ready for bed and leaving in the morning, so I we told him to fix it after we checkout.
That night we read through some of the comments others had written in the guest book. The owners seem to listen to suggestions and act on them. You can tell they have invested in the property and want quality for themselves and their guests. It may be time for them to consider a new management company. The property is now clean, but I, the guest, should not have been doing the cleaning or writing up a punch list of repairs – the property management company should have been doing this. In addition, when I brought this to their attention and asked for a 10% reduction in our bill upon checkout, the property manager for Four Seasons Vacation Rentals argued with me for 10 minutes about how they tried to fix things but only one person knows how, that I should have told them sooner, etc., blah blah blah. I did receive the discount, but only after having to stand my ground. A good management company would have apologized for the inconvenience, thanked me for taking the time to let them know as well as the effort to improve the rental, and given me the check with no hassles.
With a better management company (and new dishwasher), this place would be 5 stars.
P.S. I should have known better when the office had given us the key in an envelope with my name written over white-out a previous guest and the crumpled directions that they asked for back so they could re-use for the next guest. Pennypinching on envelopes and directions was the first impression and clue to the level of service. -

In late September my boyfriend and I spent two nights at this cabin apartment while visiting Yosemite. The cabin is upscale and spotless. We were able to relax after hiking yosemite falls trail and had a wonderful twilight dinner on the porch in the trees. Houses in yosemite, who would have thought. We'd definitely stay here again

Thank you so much for your great review. Having a house in Yosemite is rare, that is why we love to share it with guests inside the park. Hiking the trail up the side of Yosemite Falls is daunting. Glad you made it up. Please come again. There is so much to see, we are still exploring.

My friend and I spent several days hiking in the high country of Yosemite. The vistas were awesome. We can't wait to return and explore more of this beautiful place.
After our trek, we stayed in this nice apartment to relax and unwind before heading to Sequoia and Kings Canyon for the final two days of our trip. This place was just what we needed. We used the grill to make our dinner and enjoyed it on the deck as the sun went down.
The next morning we hiked to Sentinel Dome and Taft point and enjoyed the views from glacer point. The apartment was a perfect base for starting + ending these hikes and we want to stay here again when we returnResponse from Pete and Betsy - 09/23/2012

Three of us went to Yosemite for a quick 2 night trip in august. We stayed in this apartment which was perfect for the three of us. The place was clean, had towels and the rest so be didn't have to buy any. It is in a great area of the park too. We arrived in the early evening and decided to try a local hike recommended by the owner when we made our reservation. The hike to the fire lockout was just the start to our trip and a great way to stretch our legs after the drive up.
I noticed the previous review about the steps, but there is a railing the entire way to the door. I am amazed that someone had the time in Yosemite to count the number of steps when there is so much to see and do here. If you want to see steps, take a look at the mist trail at Vernal Falls. Now that is a set of steps and well worth it for the views!Response from Pete and Betsy - 09/12/2012

We rented the Jumping Deer apartment for two nights and it was a great place to stay. The apartment was perfect for two people with excellent kitchen & bathroom facilities along with a large selection of videos if you chose to use them. They had a grill which would have been great for cooking outdoors and table & chairs to enjoy the wooded lot. The only problem as some of the other's have mentioned here on Ta is that there are 61steps that zig zag down to the apartment and that may be too many for some people carrying luggage & groceries...plus there was no rail to hang on. We arrived ~ 7 pm and the rental office was closed but our key & reservations was posted at the office so we could move in. Otherwise, we were very pleased with the apartment's amenities.

Good value vacation rental for two within Yosemite National Park. Ideal to access Glacier Point Road and the many excellent hiking trails in that area. The apartment is comfortable, quiet and away from the crowds in Yosemite Valley with all conveniences provided. We were there for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed exploring Yosemite from this well positioned base. Plan ahead for buying food supplies.

We found the Jumping Deer to be a great place for a romantic couples getaway. It was very clean and the location was great. The kitchen was just what we needed and there was a large walk-in shower in the bathroom. It was a great place for our 25th anniversary trip.
The deer themed decorations were cute. Just know that you must go down 61 stairs to the unit. That wasn't an issue for us, but it might be for some people.
We would stay here again. -

We stayed at Jumping Deer for a week and it was the perfect getaway for two people. We like to hike and explore and it provided a good base for us. The area was away from the crowds but not so remote that we were isolated. The location was quiet and a soothing retreat to get away from the world. We found everything we needed, the bed was comfy and the kitchen provided all essentials. We are 60 and the steps were an exercise but doable even with a set of bad knees. We would highly recommend this home in Yosemite.

Salem, NHPerfect place to stay in Yosemite
Left on 06/02/2012 for a stay in May 2012
We stayed in the Jumping Deer apartment just before Memorial Day 2012, everything was great. It was nice to stay inside the gates of Yosemite, only a few minutes from Glacier Point road. This made it very convenient to drive to either Glacier Point, the valley, Tioga Road or Mariposa Grove (and only a 15 minute drive to Tunnel View). The apartment was fully equipped and comfortable for us (two people), if you have kids I think the couch might be a sleeper sofa. It was good to be able to cook and have good meals to power us for a long day enjoying all that Yosemite has to offer. There is also a nice deck with a gas grill. The area around the Jumping Deer was very quiet and woodsy since all the houses are surrounded by trees. The neighborhood is also very nice, an upscale area surrounded by trees. The only word of caution is the 30+ steps to get down the the apartment since the neighborhood is built on the side of a mountain, for most people this should not be an issue since the stairs are very safe. If the stairs are an issue you should look at renting the upstairs of the house since it looked like there were less steps to the entrance.

We recently visited Yosemite and stayed at The Jumping Deer aparment. We were pleased with the location as it was very close to the Valley. We were also delighted with the apartment itself. It was just the perfect size for the three of us. My husband and I slept comfortably in the bedroom and our son used the sofa bed in the living room. We liked cooking our dinners on the barbecue on the deck and then watching a movie (there were a lot to choose from). I was surprised at some of the decorative touches. Who would have thought you would find a vessel sink in a mountain cabin setting. What fun we had!

Lovely quiet location close enough to Yosemite, with the scenic drive, but sufficiently far from the busy park itself. The accommodation was very comfortable and completely fit for purpose. The gas barbacue used for dinner and breakfast - great.
Brilliant and fantastic are the 2 words that come to mind - stay here. Just a shame we only had 2 nights.
The only downside were the miserable staff at the reception (not Pete and Betsy who were very welcoming) but that didn't matter. Hence 2 stars for check-in. 5 stars for everything else. -

The Jumping Deer appartment was in a great location for all of the Yosemite National Park however we found it in need of a thorough clean up with very tired/morn-out amenities. A shopping trip to Walmart to spend $50 on kitchen utensils and un-ripped towels would radiaclly improve the comfort to this appartment.
Response from Pete and Betsy - 10/29/2011

We appreciate guests’ responses, even if negative, so that we can try to improve our accommodations and provide a comfortable environment for our renters. In regard to the cleanliness issue we have spoken to our management so they can address this issue with housekeeping staff. We have just been through one of the busiest seasons of late and in the past month or so housekeeping has been shorthanded. But at this point these are merely excuses and the problem has been addressed.
We have been in the process of upgrading our units and due to the booking schedule, we opted to begin with our three bedroom unit first. We currently have new flooring on order for the apartment, as well as upgraded countertops for the kitchen and bath. These improvements should be installed shortly along with new amenities for the kitchen. We take to heart the comments on what can be done to improve the comfort of this apartment and we will continue to work towards this end.

This one bedroom condo was very comfortable and located 16 miles from the entrance to Yosemite Valley, so convenient for us. The kitchen was outfitted for cooking and the layout perfect for 2 people. The only negatives are that we arrived after dark and finding the condo was difficult because the sign was very small...in addition, the condo was on the lower level of a three level building and we had to carry our things down a long flight of stairs. That aside, plan on arriving in the daylight!

We really loved the place; We were traveling with our not yet one year old daughter, and we wanted a one bedroom rental, which turned out to be pretty difficult to find. It fit our needs perfectly with a kitchen, and then being able to put her in the bedroom, and still enjoy a few hours of adult time in the main room with tv, and video's. Loved the location, we could go hike up in badger, or go down into the valley. We would defidently look to rent again here, for our next visit.

Jumping Deer was the perfect location for our visit to Yosemite National Park. It was convenient to both Wawona and the Valley and is in a lovely residential neighborhood of custom homes. The bed was comfortable and the small kitchen exactly what we needed for our 3 night stay. The TV and cozy living room area was a real plus! The quiet was unbelievable. Will definitely be back and have recommended it to several friends. Would love to come back with other couples to enjoy Pine arbor - the house upstairs. It looks lovely, too.
