Description from the owner

Quarry House sits on a magnificent piece of property in close proximity to Yosemite National Park - Just 26 miles to the Arch Rock Entrance via Highway 140! Here you’ll find a variety of year-around activities throughout Mariposa County. My name is John Zisa and I am proud of what has been accomplished at Quarry House. I’m sure you will find interest as well as relaxation. When the house is not rented by vacationers I am here working on projects usually shaping something from stone or some other art medium for my clients or myself. I have a few intriguing projects around the property and plans for many more. I look forward to hearing fro...Read more

      Yosemite Escape

Left on 10/04/2012 for a stay in September 2012

Our family's stay here was beyond wonderful!

The Quarry House provided all of the amenities you could dream of, from a spacious open kitchen with top of the line appliances, to the large family room with Netflix streaming to the TV, and the two large bathrooms on either side of the house. But what we loved the most was how beautiful and peaceful the property is (for those days we didn't feel like driving, even though we were super close to Yosemite Park) this place feels like a retreat!

Our 2.5 year old little boy enjoyed adventures on the property as we hiked around, that he continues to talk about even weeks later. We especially love the owner's granite sculpture in the front yard (whom our son said hi to every time we passed by) and the organized stacks of slate, granite and other rock organized around the property.

The gorgeous rock walkway leading up to the front door sets the perfect mood for the adventure at the retreat you're about to experience. We loved the Quarry House and we're already planning our next family trip back!

      Absolutely Wonderful!

I stayed here with my family for a week. It was so nice! The inside is absolutely beautiful, and very homey. The switch covers were all designed by John Zisa out of granite. It was amazing to see, they all had different ones. Like one had a heart. Also outside there were little rock figurines that were very cool too. I loved and enjoyed our stay there. I would definitely go back again.

After reading some reviews on tripadvisor, we decided on this house and it was a great decision! The interior of the house is very nice and renovated. The kitchen was spacious and well stocked. We were able to have breakfast daily as well as make our own dinners! From pizza cutters to foil, everything was available. The 3 bedrooms were very comfortable. The showers were strong and helpful after a long hike! The washer and dryer also came in handy. Another plus was the netflix, which our kids enjoyed. The kids and adults enjoyed watching the deer family graze out back. The location is about 45 minutes from Yosemite.

      Lovely vacation rental!

Left on 09/05/2012 for a stay in August 2012

Everyone in our group really enjoyed Quarry House. The location was perfect; it was very private, quiet and relaxing. The house was so clean and well organized. It is very clear that the owner has put a lot of thought into meeting vacationer's needs. The house had everything we needed.

It was an easy drive to Yosemite National Park which was less than an hour away. Overall the house was very comfortable and convenient so I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a vacation rental near Yosemite.

John, the owner, was very friendly and nice to deal with. He handled all the arrangements promptly, and we really appreciated how quick and courteous he was to answer all of our questions and concerns. We would definitely consider staying at Quarry House in the future if ever planning to vacation in the Yosemite area again.

The house is very good equipped (also with a dryer for the clothes) and you need only to bring good food to cook and eat in a very quite and nice corner!

It was clean and there was absolutely everything we needed.

There is also a phone in the house so you can call to check-in and check-out even if you do not have cell-phones (our european cell-phones didn't work in the us).

In the evening after the Yosemite Park we appreciated the living room with sofas, television and some movies. The house is not in the Yosemite park but it is not far (less than an hour driving) to the south entry (giant Sequioas in Marigrove) and the east entry (Yosemite valley).

We appreciated the wildlife around the house! You can see a lot of deers near the house eating in the grass, especially early in the morning.

The three rooms, one with separate bathroom, are very practical if you are a group of friends or a family with children.

The renter is very friendly and honest.

      Excellent Vacation Home!

Left on 08/17/2012 for a stay in August 2012

We enjoyed our stay at the Quarry House. It was well equipped and clean. We usually ended our daily activities at the Yosemite NP and come home with nice grill meals and varieties of side dishes at the Quarry House comfortable setting. This is the best vacation for us as we enjoyed both the NP activities and the comfortable of home setting at the same time. John and Lisa are so nice in helping every issue we asked. We highly recommend it.

This is definitely the high point of my trip at Yosemite. The house is located right by 45 so it's rather convenient to go to the part. Though the mountain roads are a bit hard to drive. You can get to the park in an hour or two so it's pretty nice. The facilities are just magnificent! The house is fully furnished, well maintained and nicely cleaned. It is a really cozy place for a group of 4 or more. The best part is every morning we woke up we see deers running around the house. My mom got surprised at first and then really wanted to take pictures. The night sky is crystal clear and full of stars. My friends and I will definitely come back at some point. The house has internet access and Netflix and we watched a couple of episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" when my Mom was cooking :) It was such a relaxing experience! I recommend this place. Also, John is good at returning your security deposit. I got mine the week we got back home. :P

Response from John Zisa - 07/29/2012

I am happy to read that your stay at my home was the high point of your trip. A true compliment considering the grandeur of Yosemite National Park. To clarify for inquiring guests the house is located near Hwy 49, but is much closer to Hwy 140 a direct route to Yosemite's Arch Rock Entrance Station. With a speed limit of 55 mph the 26 mile drive from the Quarry House door to entrance station is quick and scenic with views of mountains and ridge tops. In addition three quarters of the 26 mile trip is along the Wild and Scenic Merced River.

Previous guests have found the location ideal and the drive short and easy. If there are any questions or concerns that have not been addressed in the property description, or if you desire specific information about the property or Yosemite area, please ask and I will respond quickly.
      Respectfully, John Zisa

      Wonderful stay

Left on 06/26/2012 for a stay in June 2012

The Quarry House was a wonderful place for our visit to the Yosemite National Park. The location is not in the park itself, but there is only an approx. half an hour drive to the entrance. It was no problem to drive up to the park every day to do some hiking and sightseeing there. The house is in a really quite and idyllic place without other tourists around. However, the city of Mariposa is close, which provides a supermarket and several restaurants. The house is very clean, in a perfect condition and you can see that the owner put a lot in it. The interior and exterior is really nice and the equipment is also very good. My mother in law said that she had never in her live cooked in such good pots... I myself liked especially the gas grill in the backyard :-)
The service was great; John and his Mom were both very helpful and friendly. The check-in and check-out was uncomplicated.
We would definitively stay again. Thank you John!

John is a nice guy, he really helps

Left on 06/03/2012 for a stay in May 2012

I went there with my friends and this place is really good for a group of 5 adults. Two bedrooms are convenient to couples or families, and one small guest room is good for a single person. Everything in the house looks new, and of course clean. I like the stone doormat. And it's really in close approximity to Yosemite.
In the beginning the Wifi was not working, and we couldn't figure out how to use the coffee machine. And then I called John in the first morning and he offered us some tips to make them work. But we still could not fix them. Then he came the next day and fixed the Wifi, and bought a new coffee machine for us since the original one malfunctioned. And he even run a test on the coffee machine to clean the internal of it, so you can see he is really considerate.
The only thing is the door of the guest room is transparent, which is inconvenient if someone sleeps in there and need privacy. This could have been improved a little bit. Overall, I recommend this place very much, and John is really a nice guy.

Left on 05/08/2012 for a stay in May 2012

I made a last minute reservation and John was extremely cordial and helpful. He is a long time resident of the area and vastly knowledgeable. Quarry house was pleasantly surprising, with a beautiful upgraded interior. The kitchen is modern, open and well-equipped. I slept wonderfully on a good mattress with high quality linens. The sofa is plush and comfy after a long day of hiking in Yosemite. The outdoor area is sunny, serene and private...perfect for coffee in the morning still in pajamas. There are interesting artistic touches inside and out in this lovely home. There is plenty to do and the beauty of the area alone is enough to satisfy most travelers. I was in awe of the scenery the entire weekend.
