Riverside in an idyllic position, our delightful 4-storey house of 5 holiday apartments dates from the 1920s and was rebuilt in the mid 1990s.

Our house is one of the prettiest on the Zell waterfront, featuring flower boxes, slate roof and traditional timberwork in the gabled fa├žade. There is a guests' patio adjacent the entry and once inside, a marble staircase leads upstairs. One floor up from the entry, the 'Mosel Studio' is the most compact of the holiday apartments in our house and is perfect for couples.

With a history from Celtic and Roman times, Zell is one of the key towns along the Mosel River and lies halfway between...Read more

Additional Location Information

Since ancient times the Mosel River has been a path for armies, pilgrims, revellers and travellers. Meandering from the east of France, the Mosel runs alongside Luxembourg, accepts the Saar tributary and flows by the city of Trier. Trier was the major Roman city north of the Alps and has impressive Roman ruins. From here to Koblenz is 200 kms and the Mosel is at its most scenic, with the Hunsruck Plateau to the south and Eifel Volcanic region to the north. The Mosel cuts its deep squiggly way through the higher countryside and the steep slopes are lined with vineyards dating back thousands of years.

Midway between Trier and Koblenz is the Zellerland Region. This is the quintessential Mosel. Up and down the river lie quaint villages and it would be a challenge to find any without wine-makers cellars. Many beautifully restored 'fachwerk' (timber features) houses exist, dating over 400 years. In the 18th and 19th Century, Bad Bertrich (15kms from Zell) became popular as a thermal waters retreat and it offers some grand old hotels up to luxury 5* standard.

Climate is mild to warm in summer with most days between 20 and 30 degrees. Shoulder seasons are a good time for hiking and cycling. Winters can be occasional snow with the valley being protected from more extreme conditions on the plateau. Nicer winter days are often between 5 and 10C.

Zell together with its satellite villages numbers over 4000 residents. While the nearby town centre is traditional, 4 km away by bus (or climb!) on the plateau opposite is a major commercial centre with hospital, Globus hypermarket, Aldi and Lidl stores.

The historic spa town of Bad Bertrich is just 15km and can be reached by bus via Alf. See (website: hidden)

The local transport guide can be picked up for free and includes over 100 pages on walks and bike rides - as well as bus and rail routes and times. Also see (website: hidden) ; (website: hidden) and (website: hidden)
Bullay station is midway on the Trier to Koblenz rail line with approx 25 trains a day either way.
Buses go in all directions.

Day rail and bus passes are excellent value for groups up to 5 adults.
Cruises can be taken up and down the Mosel between May and October. Times at the wharfs. Also see (website: hidden) (Koln-Dusseldorfer Line). 60 km distant by road are the Rhine Gorges and here day cruises operate all year.

Bikes can be hired from several bike shops in town. Largest is Klaus, near the road bridge and 500m from us. Guests have also recommended the bike shop in Zell-Merl, about 2 kms away.
Canoes can be hired too.

Further information, festivals and events can be found at (website: hidden) and (website: hidden)

Parking opposite the house is free, pretty safe and readily available.
