Additional Location Information
Zermatt (1,620m) is set high in the Alps, amongst spectacular scenery, with the majestic Matterhorn towering over the village. Populated in summer by walkers and climbers, in winter by skiers and boarders, there are 3 distinct yet inter-connected areas including year-round easy skiing on the Theodul Glacier overlooked by the iconic Matterhorn. Additionally, with the link to Breuil-Cervinia on the Italian side of the Matterhorn, skiers can enjoy up to 217 miles of pistes shared by the two regions. The Klein Matterhorn cablecar is Europe's highest, rising to 3,883m, and provides the main link. At these altitudes the snow is almost certain to linger into spring and early summer, and Zermatt has some impressive late snowfalls - more than 2m of fresh snow can fall up to the end of April. All lifts are open until 30 April and summer skiing continues year round. Even in bad weather, Zermatt's celebrated mountain restaurant's will compensate.

London, United KingdomOur own private 5 star hotel under the Matterhorn
Left on 08/16/2011 for a stay in August 2011
After a fantastic stay at Zen in the Spring we decided to return to return for the summer. What a wonderful week. The chalet could not have been better located for us, right opposite the cable car station to take us up to Klein Matterhorn for Summer Skiing but also at the bottom of the walking trails up to what must be some of Switzerland's best restaurants at Zumsee, Blatten, Zmutt and Stafelalp. We skiied in the morning and then hiked to one of these restaurants in the afternoon. Returning to Zen exhausted we would soak in the hot-tub before massage from Lara and then nap. We hardly left the chalet in the evening thanks to the 4 course meals provided by the chalet chef. If only it was possible to live like this all year! We came with a group of friends we found the privacy offered by Zen preferable to staying in hotel. We had looked at a number of other chalets however found that all of the equivalent luxury chalets were located in 'le petit village' which is at the far side of Zermatt and inconvenient for the mountain, they were also very close together and so not as private. The other thing we liked about the chalet which may not be to everyones taste is that it has an old world feel, all antiques and... not modern and minimalist. We are very much hoping to be able to find a week to make it back during the winter as it is apparently possible to ski straight to the chalet door... when we came in the spring the snow did not quite allow this. Thank you Steffi for taking such good care of us!

BermudaCharming, cosy private home, minutes from main ski lift
Left on 03/14/2011 for a stay in January 2011
Chalet Zen proved to be a stylishly-furnished, traditional chalet with all the important creature comforts - and a stunning setting on the edge of Zermatt, facing the Matterhorn. Steffi, Chalet Zen's manager, skillfully pointed us in the right direction each morning, as the six of us discussed our plan for the day over a good breakfast. We had a wonderfully relaxing week, each couple enjoying comparing notes over an inventive and delicious dinner, prepared by a very talented chef, Denis, who successfully adapted Swiss, French and Italian classics to reflect our ambition to eat lighter, more healthy dishes! (That resolve faded in front of the welcoming, blazing fire, when faced with the temptations of his afternoon tea! ) Zermatt offers many options for a good lunch on the mountain - but dinner was truly one of the highlights each day! Both the bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, comfortable and we all felt right at home. Five minutes on foot to the main lift makes the location excellent - and the walk back into the historic town centre takes ten minutes at most. Steffi was also able to arrange one of the best massages we have experienced in a long time - in a dedicated room at Chalet Zen. All in all, Chalet Zen is ideal for those seeking the guaranteed privacy and tranquility of a family home, easy access to the slopes and the shops and restaurants of Zermatt, - and who enjoy the finer things in life! By the way, don't miss the extraordinary - and very moving - Matterhorn museum in Zermatt, which made us look at the mountain in a rather different way as the sun went down.

Family holiday in Zermatt
New YorkChalet Zen the perfect base for Zermatt in the summer
Left on 03/13/2011 for a stay in June 2010
Everything has been thought of to make staying in the chalet comfortable and relaxing after a day outside. I would have also been happy to stay inside all day if the weather was bad. It is well laid out, no one is on top of anyone. The manager organized everything for us and was very knowledgeable about travel, restaurants, activities etc. The chalet is at the end of the village with a view of the Matterhorn, it takes five minutes to walk to the centre of the village and is therefore quieter and more peaceful. The bus stop is also just below the chalet and runs frequently. I cannot wait to go back and nor can my children.

GenevaA beautiful chalet in a great location
Left on 03/11/2011 for a stay in March 2009
We stayed for a week at the chalet in winter 2009. Chalet Zen provided us with refined comfort, exquisite food, fine French wines and daily apres ski champagne. The location of chalet Zen is perfect, 5 minutes walk to the lifts giving you access to the best skiing areas and 8 minutes walk to Town center. Zermatt has world class skiing and after a day in the cold, we enjoyed relaxing in Chalet Zen's jacuzzi, getting massages in the chalet (the latter are extra) or simply admiring sunset on the Matterhorn. Zermatt has a limited number of chalets and chalet Zen stands our as a rare find. The only negative can be the few steps going up to the chalet, which may restrict easy access for very small children and elderly people.

I cannot imagine a more wonderful vacation home!!
The service is impeccable, the food delicious, and the chalet beautifully appointed with every amenity. The gondola is only a 2 minute walk and the village 10.
I have returned several times and can think of nowhere more romantic or perfect for friends or family.
