Description from the owner
THE BEST SIDE OF THE LAKE.- El "Alto Lucero" is a brand new house located exactly where you want to be, up high on the west side of Lake Zirahuen in a tiny and quiet community called Copandaro de Zirahuen. The highest and most panoramic view to the lake. Real peace and quiet are among our great assets in this lovely rural area, of course the view is unparalleled.
A beautiful pink paving stone and cobblestone road shaded by trees connects this slice of paradise in a 9 minute pleasant drive to Zirahuen town. Nevertheless, we have some small convenient stores "tienditas" in the area.
Also on this side of the lake, "La Troj...Read more

Ontairo, OregonA year in Paradise
Left on 04/06/2013 for a stay in August 2012
We moved into El alto Lucero about the first of august, 2012 and had planed to make this our permanent home. However, after some health issues came up, I must move back to the us for more constant monitoring.
I have many friends who have seen pictures from the back deck over looking Lake Zirahuen. Everyone was duly impressed and envious. The quiet seclusion is a tonic to one's soul. There are several small 'tiendas' in the village of Copandero where one can purchase fresh vegetables, fruit, eggs, and chicken. All is locally grown with no hormones or chemicals. I have appreciated the real taste of things, once again. The people of Copandero are friendly, outgoing and truly a joy to know. I shall miss them immensely. There is an active ex-pat community with weekly breakfasts, a monthly cocktail party, arts and crafts, music, festivals. What more could one ask for?
There are so many great points about El alto Lucero. One probably may find other nice places, even with a view. But --the best part is alejandra and Enrique. They are in a class all by themselves. They do not 'hover' and are not 'nosy.' But they are always there for anything you might need. Seriously -- Ale has been so very attuned to our needs. Most times, she thought of things well in advance of our needs. At other times, a mere mention of something brought her immediate attention.
They are the perfect hosts.
I freely give them more than simply a 'recommendation!' We have been treated with courtesy, respect and complete honesty. All my friends have received rave reviews from me.
We have found ale and Enrique to be friends of the highest order. I certainly hope that this house is available when I return on vacation. But, I realize that this diamond will soon provide shelter and comfort to others as it has us.
Your stay here will be among your most pleasant experiences.
Abrazos,
Lee and Judy

San Francisco, CA and Guanajuato, MexicoPeace, beauty, comfort, and adventure all in one place!
Left on 08/02/2012 for a stay in July 2012
I thought going from downtown San Francisco to small-town Guanajuato, Mexico would be relaxing...until I got to Zirahuen and "El alto Lucero." The comfort of the house and the beauty of its surrounding give a new meaning to "rejuvenation." The location of the house made it easy for us to visit nearby towns we had never been to. The recreation center down the street was perfect for outdoor activities such as zip-lining and horseback riding. Nearby Patzcuaro, Uruapan, and Santa Clara del Cobre are lovely to visit. Zirahuen, on the other side of the lake, is perfect for enjoying delicious food and scenic boat rides. But we always looked forward to returning to a peaceful home and breathtaking view at the end of the day. We experienced the perfect blend of serenity, solitude, and adventure. Alejandra and Enrique made our experience easy and enjoyable; we hope to return again soon!

San Miguel de AllendeA Fabulous, "First World" experience in a peaceful, rustic setti
Left on 06/06/2012 for a stay in May 2012
My wife and I were pleasantly surprised at this mix of first-world amenities in a pristine, rustic environment. Hosts ale and Enrique had prepared their newly constructed dwelling for us with coffee, beverages, fresh clean towels and linens, Dvds (TVs in both bedrooms), bottled water and all the comforts of home in the us. The peaceful balcony overlooked the gorgeous lake, providing an astonishing view reminiscent of the Northwest us or the lake lands in Europe. We'll be back!

We were looking for a quiet, relaxing setting to break up our extended stay in Mexico City. We couldn't have done better than El alto Lucero. Alejandra and Enrique have done a wonderful job preparing and decorating this beautiful guest home. They are most gracious hosts and accommodated our special request for 5 people, with a mattress on the floor for one of our children. The atmosphere of this area is wonderful, a much slower-paced, quaint, high-country living; the perfect contrast to the frenetic energy of Mexico City. We enjoyed relaxing on the patio, swimming in the lake, and running on the nearby dirt roads. We left wishing we could stay a little longer.

Mexico DFA holiday of beauty and tranquility
Left on 03/22/2012 for a stay in March 2012
After driving on a first rate highway from Mexico city to The lake of Zirahuen, I was welcomed upon arrival by the impressive view of the lake at the foot of the terrace, and the sweet aroma of the pine tree forest surrounding the place.
I had a an impeccable little house all to myself, so comfortable and practical that it made me want to rent it for a long term stay ! The chance to see the everchanging colours of the lake, to see a clear sky at night, to actually hear silence, was a long forgotten feeling for a big-city dweller like me !Of course the town is picturesque and lovely, but I felt so good at the house that I didn't want to leave !

Ale and Enrique are perfect hosts, they made sure my stay was comfortable and pleasant. They took care of every detail, from bottle water, to wi-fi and cable tv.
Going to Zirahuen was a real treat because in addition to the view of the lake from the terrace of the "casita," inside and out the home is perfect. Its design is a splash of color.
In Zirahuen there was always, something new to discover, from the stars at night to the birds singing in the morn, to the fog raising from the lake until it totally cleared.
To complement the visit, shopping and restaurants in nearby Patz are a must.
I enjoyed everything about of my stay, specially being at the casita, looking at the beautiful color walls and every detail of its decor. -

Guanajuato, GTOIdeal get-away
Left on 02/08/2012 for a stay in February 2012
This is my second time staying at alejandra and Enrique's El alto Lucero. It is the ideal get-away and has a little something for everyone. For us it was the ideal base for visiting some of our favorite artesenias in the nearby pueblos of Michoacan. The house has everything we needed (just like home) so I was able to work, thanks to the reliable high-speed internet, while my dad was out exploring the lake on his mountain bike. The house is impeccably clean and charming with all the amenities of home (and then some ...I wish I had a dishwasher at home!). The view from the deck is breathtaking and the comfortable chairs and table make it nearly impossible to come in. Ale and Enrique are amazing hosts and I look forward to coming back for a third visit in the near future.

Left on 01/07/2012 for a stay in December 2011
The place is very nice. The house is completely new and has everything you need (wireless internet, full equipped kitchen, washer and drier machine. It is located at the top of the mountain so you have an extraordinary view to the lake. The house is peaceful, no noise at all and the hosts are very respectful but at the same if you need something they will help you right away.
If you need a time to get away of all your problems, this is the perfect place to be, don't even think about it.

Guanajuato, GTOGracious Hosts and Charming Get-Away
Left on 11/30/2011 for a stay in November 2011
We had a wonderful time during our stay at el alto Lucero. The casita is cute, clean, and more than adequately appointed. Our hosts were welcoming and generous, but not intrusive. And, the setting is beautiful and peaceful--the perfect place to get away from it all and just relax. Between Lake Patzcuaro and Uruapan, it is also in a very convenient location for a variety of day-trips. We'll be recommending it to all our friends and can't wait to return as soon as we can ourselves!

Left on 11/24/2011 for a stay in November 2011
Those beautiful photographs of the lake are absolutely for real. I spent most of my time on the sunny terrace drinking in the view to the accompaniment of the breeze in the pine trees. Alejandra and Enrique are great hosts, attentive without being intrusive, flexible and incredibly helpful. It was very easy to book through their website and they went out of their way to help me with transportation since I didn't have a car. The house is well-equipped from the modern conveniences like microwave and blender to the traditional comal for cooking and a lovely set of San Miguel pottery dishes. Important though to buy food before arriving since there are only basic supplies nearby. El alto Lucero lives up to its name and is a great place to enjoy the countryside. Thank you ale and Enrique for making me feel a welcomed friend in your slice of paradise.

Left on 11/16/2011 for a stay in October 2011
My stay at "El alto Lucero" more than fulfilled my expectations. Ease of reservation directly through their website and personally speaking with the owners, who kindly and clearly answered every query I needed to get to the place and during my full stay. A newly built home in full Mexican style with beautiful furnishings and decor, and internet access, was the perfect getaway from my busy life. Set on a hill overlooking Lake Sirahuen in the State of Michoacan, I enjoyed breathtaking views from the terrace at all times and total tranquility! In a rural setting for genuine touch with the local lifestyle, yet I was able to do same day trips to the beautiful cities of Patzcuaro (only 25 mins away) and Morelia. With plenty of outdoor adventure options around, I was also able to rest and enjoy Mexico in a fantastic way! I highly recommend it!

Ale and Enrique. Thank you very much! you, your place and pets are adorable!
The house is brand new; super clean and very confortable. The view from the house to the lake is breathtakin. The service was great! The location in one word, beautiful! The area is safe and quiet. Is hard to say what we enjoy best, we love to watch the sunrise every morning with birds singing. We enjoy to meditate and do Yoga outdors. We cook wonderful meals, we drove to Patzcuaro and Santa Clara in minutes, but the best for us was to walk in the woods and swim in the lake, oh my god! the water was fresh and so clean. We are going to go back, definitely.Response from Ale and Enrique - 11/06/2011
