“The perfect home” Sitting having breakfast, looking out over the water watching the sea birds dive for fish, scanning our eyes to the field below the cliff edge taking in the wonder of young eaglets finding their wings.Pure magic. Coming home after a day exploring Gods Island to sit round a log fire, cosy, comfortable and then to sink in luxurious beds to arise to more wonders of Skye. All this was made possible by our host, who kept us stocked with logs, kindness and friendship. The best holiday cottage ever and if the owner ever considers selling we would make our home in this lovely cottage

Loch Ness Hideaways:- Rowan Cottage

Loch Ness Region log cabin

  • 2 bedrooms
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 4

“A relaxed escape to the country” If you have never been to Loch Ness and the surrounding areas, Alex & Janet's little hideaway is absolutely perfect as a base. No detail was overlooked: directions, Welcome pack of biscuits & chocolates which our kids loved, Separated packs of information with walks and local interests, even dog treats they understand hospitality to the letter. A home from home you only need to bring some food or pop to Tesco/Asda which was a reasonable 20miles ish at Inverness. The location was perfect we were within reach of Inverness, Fort agustus and the Fall of Foyers, which was our primary visit, and on a clear night which we were lucky to have one the night sky is something to see. If you are a family looking for walks we found that the forestry commission walks were best as they were marked out by difficulty and colour coded posts throughout the chosen walk (avoids embarrassing moments of getting lost). For us it was a break to escape the typical 'busy' life and a chance to reconnect with each other as a family with some board games (take some) and country air.

“Lovely Place, Highly Recommended” The spotless, cosy and roomy accommodation was ideal for our family of two adults and two teenage boys. We enjoy the outdoors and the location of the property was ideal for this. Good mountain biking routes set off from the cottage and several Munros and smaller hills were easily accessible from the cottage. If you want peace and space to explore the cottage is ideal, and even has a large porch for muddy wet gear. Anyone looking for lively attractions visitor's centres, nightlife and entertainment would be disappointed though. Aviemore, with its supermarket, pubs restaurants, clay pigeon shooting and other outdoor pursuits is only a few miles away.

Lochleven Seafood Cottage

Onich house

  • 4 bedrooms
  • 2 bathrooms
  • sleeps 8

“A holiday to remember!” We came to stay in Lochleven Seafood Cottage in april. There were ten of us staying, and we all instantly fell in love with the cottage as soon as we stepped inside. It was really clean and tidy, and well kept. The views of the loch were outstanding from the living room, and the bedrooms were very comfortable. The cottage was very well equipped, so there's no need to bring anything extra. The location of the cottage is also ideal, about twenty minute's drive from Glencoe and Fort William. We were able to travel to somewhere different everyday, but also enjoy some lovely walks and mountain treks just outside the cottage. The service for the cottage was also incredible - I texted the supervisors about a blocked drain and they instantly sent someone within the same morning. All in all a great holiday!

“Fantastic accomodation in a beautiful location” The owners were extremely helpful in organising our weekend break. Gruinyards far exceeded our expectations, everything from the bottle of wine down to the candles in the bathroom were a lovely touch. The location was amazing and the website does not do justice to the view over the loch.

Why Scottish Highlands?

The Scottish Highlands are among Europe's most imposing landscapes. Visitors come expecting crags and lochs, windswept mountains and deep-rooted tradition; that's exactly what they get. Venturing north of Stirling and Dundee, the intrepid traveler won't find another city until Inverness, where the legendary Loch Ness meets the Moray Firth. From there, winding roads and unspoiled vistas carry you to John O'Groats and the steely North Sea.

Highlands vacation cottages come in all shapes and sizes. If you're hoping to get closer to nature, lochside log cabins are an excellent - and economical - option. Or how about a stone cottage near the foot the UK's tallest mountain, Ben Nevis? Unless you're staying in a larger town, self catering in the Scottish Highlands is often the best option - it's unusual to get room service on a mountainside! If you're planning to stay somewhere truly remote, be sure to arrange some basic supplies beforehand.

Weird and wonderful

Without a doubt, Scotland has the UK's strangest wildlife. So strange, in fact, that it has eluded would-be monster hunters for decades. If you want to catch a glimpse of Nessie, perhaps a cruise along the vast Loch Ness, plus a tour of the crumbled Urquhart Castle, will be the ideal day out.

In the Cairngorm mountains to the south, you can walk among Britain's only herd of reindeer. You'll need a good pair of hiking boots, but the opportunity to feed them by hand is as popular with adults as it is with younger visitors.

Into the wild

Those with the stomach for adventure might consider scaling all 1,200m of Ben Nevis to reach the highest point in the country, 1,346m above sea level. You can leave your ice axes at home in summer, but it is a tough hike. Set aside a whole day to do it and savor the view from the summit.

From the highest point to the most northerly: at John O'Groats you can look out to sea from the very tip of mainland Scotland. A few miles west in Gills Bay or Scrabster, you can hop on a boat to the Orkney islands, home to thriving communities of islanders and countless wild birds. There are only a few sailings a day, so plan thoroughly if you don't intend to stay.

Very comfortable house for two people.

This is a house nestling in the heart of a back-in-time tiny village (Drumbuie) on the west coast of Scotland. The interior design is excellent and has everything you could wish for including a wood-burner. There are great walks to be done, some of which are along the coast. Plockton has a wonderful pub serving excellent food.see more

Cala Sona by the beach.....
Excellent accommodation, outstanding host!

This house was perfect for our golf group consisting of 4 golfers. 4 bedrooms and 2 baths were just what we we desired. House had all the amenities we needed, everything was well maintained and in excellent condition. Location is very central and easy walk to restaurants and pubs. A bonus is the owner, James, who provided lots of useful recommendations on places to eat and drink and things to see and do. He followed up and checked on us several times to insure all was well with our stay. Very much appreciated. I highly recommend this house to anyone planning a trip to the Nairn/Inverness area.see more

Spacious annex with pretty beaches nearby.

The annex to their home is quite spacious and private, and is located in a beautiful area. We were provided with some of the best shortbread I have ever eaten, definitely a bonus. Pat came by to meet us after we arrived and she was lovely. The only negative I have is we had a hard time getting the toilet to flush, but we did not talk to the owner about it because it was easily remedied with a dishpan of water. I’m sure it would have been taken care of if we had asked. There are pretty beaches nearby, but the number of moon jellyfish washed up on Redpoint Beach when we were there made it unappealing.see more
