“Mauna Lani perfection!” We've stayed in a number of units at the Golf Villas and G2 is now our absolute favorite. There are so many great extras for a family with children (paddle boards, bikes, beach toys, pack 'n' play, high chair, etc ...), plus a spectacular sunset view. We will be back!

“Perfect Vacation Condo” Our family stayed 2 weeks and everything was absolutely perfect. The unit is beautifully furnished and decorated. It was very clean and comfortable. It has everything you could possibly need. The kitchen is nicely equipped. All beach gear is available for use, cooler, towels, beach chairs, sand toys, etc. We so enjoyed drinking our morning coffee on the lanai with the gentle ocean breeze. The location is perfect. The kids really enjoyed the pool and walking to a'beach with direct access was a very nice perk. We also enjoyed a daily walk along the coast on the trail, the views are breathtaking. The grounds of the complex are beautiful and well kept. It was also nice being able to walk to the Kings Shops and Queens Marketplace for shopping and dining. We had such a wonderful time and are looking forward to returning sometime soon! Will stay again in 16F without question.

“Halii Kai 12a was just like home...but better!” We stayed at Halii Kai Condo 12a for 12 days in September 2013. It was fabulous! We are well-seasoned travelers and would have to rate this stay in the top 5 we've ever had. The condo is like a home away from home. Peggy has everything you could possibly need including a fully stocked & well-equipped kitchen, coolers, games, beach towels, full drawer of Dvds for rainy days, Hawaii travel guides, etc. The location is fabulous with ocean views from the lanai just like in the pictures. The condo facility is quiet and well-maintained with a nice pool and small gym. Peggy herself was wonderful to deal with and was very attentive to our requests and needs. She asked us for recommendations or suggestions on how to improve and honestly, we just don't have any because she has already thought of everything. If you are looking for a condo stay in the Waikoloa area you should definitely stay here as you will not be disappointed!

THIS is Peace & Quiet... *Kohala Lodge* Exceeded our Expectations!

Kohala Coast house

  • 1 bedroom

“Absolument Magnifique!” Visited from the South of France in January 2013 and just loved it! These buccolic and splendid homestead, far enough from the heat and crowds of Kona, is set in the middle of rolling pastures, with a splendid view of the ocean! The cabin is rustic, yet refined and extremely comfortable! Chris and Carol have a wonderful eye for details and a great sense of aesthetics. The house is located near the charming and laid back town of Hawi which, by the way, has a gorgeous banyan tree, and a lovely farmers market under it, where Chris and his band play bluegrass music! It doesn't get any better...This is truly paradise!!!

Waikoloa apartment

“Feels like home--but warm and sunny!” We traveled with family and were happy to be able to rent two units next door to each other (A201 & A202). We really loved the condos--the colors, furniture, and artwork really gave the units an island feel. The spacious units with cozy furnishings, comfortable beds, beach gear, well-stocked kitchen, and convenient location made our stay especially relaxing--just 10-15 min walk to shops, marketplace, and a-Bay beach. We cooked quite a bit, so the availability of olive oil, vinegars of all flavors, butter, spices, and other kitchen condiments and accoutrement's were especially appreciated. You even have the choice of brewed coffee or espresso! To save money and get more selection, rather than do most of our shopping at the Queen's marketplace, we stocked up at Costco in Kona and Foodland in Waimea. We contributed to the pantry and fridge by leaving goodies for the next visitors (just as the previous visitors had done). The 2nd floor was nice because we could keep the windows open to let the breeze through rather than use the air-conditioning. With the windows open, we were all up at 6am to the sound of squawking birds and noisy buses and trucks. Since we wanted to go running before it got too hot, the sound of birds in the morning was better than the buzzer of an alarm clock. Although we were surprised by the road noise (it was definitely enough to wake us up when the windows were open), it wasn't enough to discourage us from staying here. The other choice would be to stay on the golf course side of the building that doesn't have the sunset view and can get really windy). A202 is a bit larger (3 bathrooms) than a201, but both units had their own charm. 201 has brighter bedrooms and a bigger master bedroom, but 202 has a bigger patio table that easily seated 8 and a brighter kitchen. Last, but not least--Sylvia was a wonderful host!

“Best Big Island Experience - Unit 14C” We decided to check out Halii Kai condo on our third trip to the Big Island. The condo complex was so beautifully maintained, peaceful and provides a very residential feel. Unit 14C was beautifully decorated and very well furnished. The kitchen was well equipped and came with all high end appliances. Peggy even provided bottled water and a six pack of Heineken in the refrigerator for us. We had plenty of linen, pillow, etc. to make us feel completely at home. We were able to use the beach chairs and body boards during our stay. We brought our own snorkeling equipment. Next time, we might try out the tennis and basketball courts since Peggy provide racquets and balls too. From the lanai, we had a beautiful ocean front view. We watched the whale cavorting in the water all week. There is access to the Trail by the Sea but the closest beach access are those by the Hilton or the Marriott. It was a pleasure to work with Peggy through out the process. We cannot wait to come back for another relaxing vacation at Halii Kai, Unit 14C.

About Kohala Coast

For a quiet Hawaiian retreat, the Kohala Coast is the perfect spot.

With pristine beaches, expert golf courses and a touch of traditional Hawaiian culture, you’ll just love this vacation destination.

Start planning your trip by booking you Kohala Coast vacation rental with FlipKey, today.

About Kohala Coast, Hawaii

The Kohala Coast lies on the northwest portion of Hawaii. Locals divide it into two portions – north and south – to keep things simple. Both are beautiful and offer their own activities.

This section of coastline is named after Kohala Mountain – the oldest volcanic mountain on the island – and has been home to the Hawaiian people for centuries.

You'll see elements of their traditions throughout your stay – find out as much as possible as it's a fascinating culture!

The Kohala Coast is a mix of the best beaches, golf courses and luxurious villas and homes.

And, better than that, there’s a whole load of ancient temples, deep valleys and picture-perfect waterfalls within easy reach. It's really no surprise that this is a popular destination for artists from around the world.

Standing on the coastline on a clear day, you should be able to see Maui. And, if you come in winter, you might even see a humpback whale cresting the waves.

What to do

If you come to the Kohala Coast, it's very likely that you've come for the glorious beaches.

There are plenty to choose from – some of our favorites are Hapuna Beach, 49 Black Sand Beach and Anaehoomalu. Though, all beaches here have something going for them.

There are lots of activities to try; go scuba diving or snorkeling in the clear waters, see if you're any good at stand-up paddle boarding, and kayak or canoe through the calm waters to see Hawaii from a different perspective.

If you want to swim with dolphins, head to Dolphin Quest. It's an experience you'll never forget.

Find out a little about traditional Hawaii. Go to Mo'okini Heiau – a living spiritual temple that was commissioned by King Kamehameha I (the first king of the unified Hawaiian Islands), who was born in north Kohala.

Ask residents about the traditions of the area – they'll be happy to tell you about it.

Go to the Bond Historic District to find out a little about the homesteading period in Hawaii. The 19th century mission still stands today as a reminder of these events.

Top Kohala Coast, Hawaii travel tips

You don't need a car here, you can walk or grab a taxi. This is the best way to travel as you get to see everything Hawaii has to offer.

While you're here, try the unusual foods and sample as much of the local culture as possible. Then spend the rest of the time relaxing on the beach.

Enjoy a peaceful beach getaway entwined with traditional Hawaiian culture, and have a trip you'll never forget.

Book your Kohala Coast vacation rental on FlipKey to make sure you get the best spot.

Pakalana Sanctuary at Puako Beach Ocean View Room
Peaceful, inviting, tropical paradise

We live on the other side of the island and wanted a little get away with my mother in law visiting from the Mainland and my 1 year old. We really scored in finding this little gem. It's a really wonderful location. This street has some gorgeous, quiet little beaches within walking distance. And one of our favorite beaches- Hapuna is a very short drive. If we weren't lazy with the one year old, we could easily bike over. The inn has a very warm feel to it. It is beautifully decorated and the beds were incredibly comfortable and luxurious. The owners were so kind and friendly especially to my little boy. It was actually really nice to see other guests and the owner in the morning at the community kitchen where we had some really tasty local coffee. We are Hawaiian coffee addicts... no crappy keurig cups or hotel coffee. You could get a fresh latte or french press or cold brew. Yum! My mother in law loved it too. It was calm and peaceful at night. It really was one of my most enjoyable hotel/inn experiences ever. We really felt relaxed and refreshed after our stay.see more

14C Hali'i Kai - Fantastic!

We stayed in Peggy's unit for 2 weeks over the spring break and loved it--2 of us and our 12 year old son. The 2 bedroom main floor unit is in a wonderful location. We saw so many whales from our lanai during our stay. Peggy has provided terrific detail and attention to all a visitors needs to the Big Island. She stocks the condo well with beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, coolers and more. She even has coffee, cream and sugar for your first morning and a beer in the fridge for the evening of your arrival. The kitchen is well stocked with any appliance you might hope for and we made great use of the Weber propane BBQ on the deck. Everything in great shape, and Peggy was available on the phone promptly when we had a slight issue with intial entry to the unit.see more

Wonderful Vacation Condo

What more could you ask for? This condo has everything you could possibly need for an extended vacation. We spent the month of February in 12a and had an amazing time. From the lanai you can watch the whales playing offshore or the golfers on the beach course. The condo is very well maintained with quality furnishings and appliances. We used the gas grill on the lanai to cook most nights. The ocean club and pool are great for relaxing and whale watching as well. I will definitely return.see more
Lovely Fairway Villas Penthouse unit. Mountain views
Amazing!

I can’t say enough nice things about this place! We arrived in the evening and we were so surprised at how it easy it was to find and that it was so clean and spacious. I loved the vaulted ceilings and the Hawaiian décor, not overdone and cluttered, just right. In the morning we were so happy to wake up and see the view; we enjoyed watching the golfers all week. It was very peaceful and quiet. The location of the unit was great, very easy to walk everywhere. We walked to get coffee every morning. We enjoyed walking to the beach, restaurants for dinner and the market. It is a very convenient spot. We went to the pool almost every day; everyone we met was quite friendly. They had everything you need for your stay there, chairs, beach towels, snorkels, coolers, you name it, they had it. It was a great location to explore the island. We can’t wait to go back to visit all the places we missed on this trip.see more

A perfect place to relax and enjoy island life

A very well appointed and comfortable Condo with great facilities and very easy access to the sandy beach. Our boys had to be dragged from the pool at the end of each day. We loved our staff and would readily return should we find ourselves on The Big Island again. … see more
