“Wonderful” Chateau Margot was perfect for a family celebration and holiday. The three seperate buildings gave privacy and comfort for the three different families on this trip. The terrace was perfect to enjoy the spectacular views and get together for breakfast and afternoon cocktails. The house is very well appointed, tastefully furnished and very quiet.

“spectacular views with affordable villa” My husband and I had wonderful time in the Tropical Garden villa we rented from Jacqueline. This is not the typical rental where you pick up your key and you're on your own. Jacqueline met us after we arrived on the ferry and rented our jeep to follow her up to the villa. Her home is part of the property to which her four rental villas are connected, and everything is well kept. She was so friendly and helpful providing advice and making sure we had everything we needed. By the end of the week, we had become friends. The Tropical Garden villa has a spectacular view overlooking Great Cruz Bay, Chocolate Hole, and Heart Bay, which you can enjoy from the deck, living room and bedroom. It is on the lower level and has a secluded feeling. It has a full kitchen and a gas grill in the garden. There is a hot tub with a view that you can find at the end of the path through the tropical garden. The beach chairs and cooler that were provided were very much appreciated during our many outings to different gorgeous beaches every day. We have fond memories of waking up and seeing that incredible view and enjoying our breakfast on the deck. We also enjoyed staying in the White Seagull villa for the latter part of the trip when it was available. We would stay in either one again. Jacqueline went above and beyond to make our stay extra special. We were sad to leave but very happy to have a new friend in St. John!

“We didn't want to leave!” My husband and I stayed at Mooncottage for too short a time in april 2014. We loved it and will hope to go back one day. The layout of the cottage is perfect for a couple. Separate sleeping cottage allows for one to sleep-in undisturbed while the other makes coffee. The island/asian decor is very attractive and the house was fully equipped with everything we needed. But the very best feature is the view which is absolutely to die for. Once there, you will be happy to skip a day at the beach and just bask in the breezy air, taking an occasional dip in the tiny pool, positioned perfectly between the bedroom and the deck. The drive in is pretty hair-raising, but once you get the hang of the very steep and very rough roads (typical in Carol Bay and much of St. John) and the perilously steep driveway, you'll be so glad you made the journey!

White Seagull -Just For Two- POOL SALE NOW

Cruz Bay villa

“Spectacular View and Wonderful Hospitality!” We just returned from a wonderful 8-day stay in the White Seagull, at "Just For Two" on St. John. This was a return trip for us, having stayed there, last May, as well. We rarely return to the same location, preferring to seek new adventures. This was a rare exception and a testimony to the wonder of this place - both St. John and Jacqueline's hospitality. The room is wonderfully decorated and comfortable, with 270 degree views of the Caribbean. We overlook Great Cruz Bay and Chocolate Hole from our windows, with views of St. Thomas from the Sky Lounge. It's amazing to wake to the early sunrise and see the ocean view, by simply sitting up in the bed. We took wonderful photos of the sunsets from the rooftop Sky Lounge and our location near the top of a mountain, overlooking the island. Jacqueline readily gave us access to her private patio, as well, providing wonderful views of Great Cruz Bay and relaxing surroundings to talk or simply play cards, in paradise! The room is well decorated with antiques and personal items. There was good Wi-Fi access and a TV with limited channels, but we rarely used them. A fireplace was available, but we can't imagine using it, except in the dead of "winter"! The room offers a small kitchenette, suitable for simple breakfasts or lunch preparation. There is access to a grill in the courtyard, as well. However, we mostly enjoyed the wonderful food at all the restaurants on the island. You definitely need to rent a car and we have had great experience with Courtesy Rental. The roads are steep, somewhat narrow and you get the challenge of driving on the left side. It's a challenge, but quickly becomes comfortable. The roads Just For Two are steep, but enjoyable. There is a back way that allows a "less steep" option, if it is rainy. Next year is our 25th anniversary and we are planning to return, yet again. It's hard to argue with perfection - especially for a milestone date.

Poi Pu St John Villa - great views & total privacy

Cruz Bay house

“St John is just the best little island around.” The villa is wide open, very spacious. Open the big doors and you let the cool breezes in. There are always breezes at Poi Pu. It's great to have your own pool right there, even if you have spent the day at the beach. It's close to town for shopping and dinning, but there is nothing like dinning right there on the deck with the breezes and all those stars. I will be going back it's just the best place to be with friends. Carol

“Week in paradise!” Our stay in the Little Palm Suite was wonderful! The suite was exactly as described in the posting and was accurately displayed in the photos. The view of Fish Bay off the deck was amazing! It was a beautiful sight to look forward to every morning. The suite was very clean and well-stocked with necessities. Both the inside and outside (grounds) at the suite were extremely well-maintained. We appreciated having beach towels and beach chairs provided for us to use for our daily trip(s) to the beaches. Michael was a wonderful host! The information he provided to prior to our trip was extremely helpful as we made our plans. He was so helpful to us during our stay as well with directions and with restaurant and beach recommendations. We enjoyed all of the restaurants that he recommended. Our personal favorites were the Sun Dog Cafe for breakfast/lunch and the Lime Inn and Fish Trap for dinner. We loved being able to eat every meal outside for an entire week! The ice cream shop at the end of Mongoose Junction was also a favorite. Our favorite north side beaches were Hawksnest (smaller and not very busy) and Trunk Bay (busier, but so beautiful and picturesque). We really enjoyed the laid-back pace on St. John and had a truly relaxing week. I really enjoyed staying a little bit outside of Cruz Bay and the location in Fish Bay was perfect. We would highly recommend Little Palm Suite! Thank you, Michael for sharing your home with us and for helping us enjoy our week in paradise!

“A little slice of paradise!” When we were deciding on a rental in St. John I was fixated on having a great view...I can't imagine there's a much better view paired with a beautiful and clean house on the whole island! The pictures can't possibly do it justice. We couldn't stop taking pictures in hopes of capturing it the best we could. The house is very clean and well-equipped. We were able to eat some dinners in, using both the grill and the stove. We had Meredith at St. John Provisions shop for food for us and stock the house before we got there so that we didn't have to go back out once we got in the first night. Very convenient! The kids loved the pool. The beds are super comfortable and it seems that our host had thought of everything we might need - soap, shampoo, hair dryers, beach towels, chairs and coolers, etc. Our favorite beach was Cinnamon Bay since we were able to rent paddle boards and skim boards for the kids. All around it was an awesome vacation. Thank you, Michael!!

“Amazing Vacation Rental” I have stayed at this property owner's other rental and did not think I could top that..I was wrong! This property was just as, if not more gorgeous than her other place, Mimosa. The views were amazing and we always felt like we exploring the island, even if we never left the villa. One thing that made this great was how easy it was to talk to and work with the owner, easiest vacation I have ever planned. The place was clean and bug/dirt free. I have stayed in quite a few places around St. John and this is by far the nicest. I already booked my vacation for next winter at this property and can't wait. It is private but still has easy access to hiking, swimming, getting to town, it is just an all around great place and I cannot wait to go back. I highly recommend this rental, and I'm picky!

“Awesome family vacation” This was our second visit to Drakes View and we again enjoyed everything the property has to offer...views, a well equpped kitchen, hot tub and ample space for our 3 generations to be together for Thanksgiving week. In spite of an abnormally rainy week, we made the best of our beach time and enjoyed the views from the villa when we were forced inside. We lovedbeing able to stay overlooking Coral Bay,our favorite side of St. Johns. We explored several new beaches and snorkeling apots. Thanks to the Roberts family and their wonderful concierge team of Dorothy and Fernando.

“Fantastic Villa” Your Review is Pending Please read and confirm your review for Property #284227 below. Review #4627412 Fantastic Villa Our family spent two unforgettable weeks in late July and early august at Calicaribe, celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary, We can't say enough about Calicaribe. We loved the villa -- its layout and tasteful decor. The views of St Thomas, other islands, and Cruz Bay from the property, especially the guest house and the pool area, are breathtaking. Although the heat and humidity were high during the peak hours of each day, temperatures and humidity lowered late in the afternoon so that we could enjoy wine and cheese and the view, including spectacular sunsets, on the patio and dinner on the verandah. Pictures of the property on various websites don't do it justice. Calicaribe is much better than we expected. It is clean and very well maintained. Calicaribe is blessed with an excellent local property manager, Steve Black, who has lived in Cruz Bay for 25 years and is a constructive civic activist. Whenever we needed anything, Steve was prompt in his response. St John is truly paradise. We were fortunate to have a rental jeep to get around the island and to have our daughter and her partner do all the driving. The roads are challenging because the island is very hilly and the roads have very sharp turns, which means that one does not need to worry about exceeding the 20 mph speed limit. Opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving abound. The beaches (St John has 39 of them) are beautiful. We swam at four of them: Trunk Bay, Little Lameshur Bay, Hawksnest Bay, and Maho Bay. We ate out only three times because my daughter's partner loves to cook, and having dinner on the verandah was a pleasant experience. The Fish Trap and Zozo's are excellent restaurants in Cruz Bay, although the latter may be too expensive for some folks. We highly recommend a sojourn at Calicaribe. You'll get plenty of bang for your bucks.

“Awesome View” We recently stayed here and it was perfect. The villa was very clean and well maintained. They have everything you need there (beach towels, cooler, chairs, pots, pans, appliances, wifi). There is a/c in both bedrooms and it cools the place off very nice at night. It has a large glass door that opens up to the deck where you have one of the best views of the island. The view is simply breath-taking. Relaxing in the evening on the deck with the view was one of my highlights of the vacation. The property is about 5 minutes from town. Their property management company met us at ferry dock and gave us tour of the town and villa. This is an awesome property and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. I don't have one complaint about this villa. Highly recommended!

About St. John

About: Saint John

In the US Virgin Islands, you’ll find tiny, beautiful, and tropical Saint John. With a lush national park surrounded by white sand beaches on all coasts, endless watersports, friendly locals, a burgeoning culinary scene, shopping galore, and plenty of places to get your buzz on while relaxing – Saint John should top your list of places to visit in the coming years. Here’s a breakdown of everything you’ll need to know before you go:

History

A brief history of the island starts with sugar cane planation agriculture and the slave revolt in 1733 that left a quarter of the island’s population dead. The US bought it from Denmark in 1917, and John Rockefeller owned much of it by 1956. He donated it back to the US and it was declared a National Park, which is why most of the center of the island remains untouched and well preserved. Since then, tourism has exploded on this beautiful escape in the middle of a turquoise ocean.

Things to do

If you’re coming to Saint John and the Caribbean in general – your fun begins at the beaches. Hawksnest Beach has incredible scuba diving and snorkeling where you can see many species of fish. Trunk Bay is extremely popular, which is a good thing and bad thing. It is the most crowded area on the island, but perfect for people watching and sun bathing. Snorkel outside Water Lemon Cay where you’ll be closer to ocean life than anywhere else. Salmon Bay is a short hike away through the National Forest, and is worth the extra effort. Salt Pond Bay and Drunk Bay are two other must-visit beaches, and on Drunk Bay you’ll find eerie effigies of ‘human’ families made out of rocks, coral, and sticks left by tourists. Get to Cinnamon Bay early to ensure you’ll have access to a Jet Ski or scuba set.

Try out Maho Beach as well, a family-friendly environment with plenty to do. You’ll find boat charters all over the island for sunset cruises, deep-sea fishing, and much more adventure.

The most well known hike on the island is arguably along the Reef Bay Trail, a 4.9-mile route from Centerline Road to the beach below. The hike travels along the ruins of the Reef Bay Sugar Factory. A slightly easier hike takes you along the rocky trail on the Coral Bay side of the island. The trail brings hikers to the petroglyph pool, which features unique carvings most likely created by the Taino people, pre-Columbian islanders. The Ram Head Trail is a mountain hike that will leave you breathless, not just at the views either.

If you’re feeling wild, parasail or paraglide at one of the beaches or bays, or if you’re looking to live a bit of history, visit the Annaberg Sugar Plantation.

Transit

Even though Saint John is two-thirds national forest, that doesn’t mean it’s difficult to get around. Board a helicopter, water taxi, small charter plane or commercial airplane to jet from island to island, and there’s no passport required for U.S. citizens.

Car rentals are plentiful but remember two key things: you MUST drive on the left side of the road, and speed limits are 20mph at most. There are taxis available through three main companies – Paradise Taxi, Saint John Taxi Association, or Per Dohm’s. If you want to travel in style, book a limo through Executive One Limousines, Slimo’s, or Love City Limousines. There are also water taxis available for you.

Vitran operates air-conditioned buses over the length of the island. Buses leave Cruz Bay in front of the ferry terminal at 6am and 7am, then every hour at 25 minutes after the hour until 7:25pm. They arrive at Coral Bay about 40 minutes later.

From Saint John, it's easy to explore the rest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, as ferries and boats are constantly shuttling passengers back and forth. Ferries travel to Red Hook, Charlotte Amalie, and more leaving a few times per hour. Tickets are cheap at $5 for adults and $1 for children. If you've brought your passport along, you can also head to the nearby British Virgin Islands to enjoy an exclusive high-end holiday adventure.

Weather

Looking for perpetual summer? You’ll find it on any of the US Virgin Islands, and Saint John is no exception. The smallest and most protected island of them all experiences sunny days, infrequent showers, and gentle breezes every month of the year. Average weather during the summer season is 82 degrees Fahrenheit (though low 90s is typical too), with the winter dropping down to only 77 degrees. The gentle winds keep the weather from getting too hot or humid, and it remains just perfect, all year.

Rain showers are often short and typically occur early in the morning or at night. All day downpours over numerous days are not common. The driest months are typically February and March, and the wettest is November.

You may need to wear a jacket if you come during the winter, just a light one, for the early morning and late at night. Most of the time shops and restaurants will have AC on to combat the heat. The ocean temp is about 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit, so swimmers can cool off but it is not going to stop anyone from jumping in!

Keep an eye on hurricane reports before you book your trip, but they are extremely rare and even if a storm event is happening in ‘the Caribbean’ it may not be anywhere close to Saint John.

Girls Trip......perfect!

Our condo was right on the beach......beautiful, turquoise waters! It was a perfect location for our " girls trip"! Each morning we enjoyed our coffee on the patio while watching the boats sail by.....evenings, same thing, but enjoyed our coconut rum! Condo was well appointed & clean....bed was very comfortable, hide a bed sofa might be ok for kids. Vicky, owner, checked on us often. Would definitely stay there again!see more

Great Relaxing Vacation at the Rendesview

Kathy at Island Getaways was so responsive during our planning and helpful upon arrival. The house is much more than we expected. The views are incredible and the pool was relaxing and spacious. We enjoyed our lazy mornings sipping coffee and listening to the waves. Made it tough to motivate and hit the beaches - which we did, of course. Cooking while overlooking the ocean was so serene. Mooncottage: Most Romantic St. John Petite Luxury Villa in peaceful Coral Bay
Even better

Yes, it was even better than the pictures and even better than the reviews. I've only stayed one other place in my many years of traveling that so captured the peace and beauty of a place. I loved the virtual outdoor living, but with screens for dusk when the biting bugs can be annoying. Air conditioning is not needed in the least. One recommendation - float on your back in the pool at night and watch the stars sparkling in the black sky overhead. Also, try the snorkeling at Haulover, on the south side. We were going to try the north side, because we heard it was great, but were a bit intimidated by the swells and the fact that no one else was there. So we tried the south side, and it was great! Just snorkel up both sides of the cove. Although the beach is a bit rocky, there is a sandy area, so spend the extra time to look for it. Also watch out for the sea urchins. They are quite close in to the beach, although spread out enough that you won't step on them if you're watching. Also, our adult daughter and her fiance spent 3 days with us, sleeping on the futon in the living room and it worked well. I don't know if I would put little children there, due to the pool being between the living room and the bedroom, but it would work fine for older children, and the parents still have the romance of their own (adorable!) separate bedroom. They loved Mooncottage too and cried when they left.see more

Gorgeous views and privacy

This condo had amazing views of four different bays and tons of privacy. Each bedroom's Ac worked great and was definitely needed. Other condos are to the side out of view and it was extremely quiet. We rented a jeep, and the hills getting to the condo are very steep so we recommend a jeep to explore the island. Plenty of flat parking for you and other guests. Views, privacy, ac, spacious villa, what more could you want? We loved it!see more

Wonderful Family Vaca

We spent a fabulous week here with our adult children. First visit back to St. John in almost 20 years. Palm Vista was just as lovely as the photos and the view was awe inspiring. Perfect accommodation for 6 of us. While we felt that we had the mountain to ourselves, we were in good driving distance to Cruz Bay and the beaches. Home was clean, beautifully maintained, kitchen was very well equipped for our nights cooking in. Every detail thought out. and beautifully met. Great pool. Beach equipment and coolers. While Cruz Bay is starting to open up again, Coral Bay was still pretty much shut down. Some restaurants still struggling to get back in gear so check in with them before going on "old" ratings.see more
