“Charming isolation getaway” What a wonderful stay we had at the Sunset View Cottage. The cottage is charming, rustic, and comes with all the basic necessities. There’s a screened in sitting area with a twin bed for those that like sleeping in the cool night breeze. We loved the pond, the boat, the kayak and the raft. The dock was a wonderful place to have breakfast; and it was also where we saw the Neowise comet and a few shooting stars! The pond itself is a gem because it offers very shallow waters for those learning to swim or dogs who like to fish, and deeper waters for jumping off the raft, floating around or swimming. Just to manage expectations, this is not a location for people who don’t like rustic accommodations or are afraid of bugs. It is a non-insulated cottage right near a pond surrounded by trees. It has comfortable beds, fans, screens, running hot water, a hammock, strong internet, a gas grill, and an outdoor shower. This suited our needs and made us extremely happy. In addition Christine and her family made us feel very welcome there & even pointed out the wild blueberries that we enjoyed picking. So grateful that they are open to sharing a slice of their heaven with us! We will surely be back.

About Truro

Lying on the northern tip of Cape Cod just two hours away from Boston, Truro is a postcard perfect Outer Cape summer vacation destination. Come here to be swept away by the old world charm of this village, which was founded nearly three hundred years ago on shipbuilding and whaling industries. Relics of these old ways of life can still be found in the local historical museum or a trip to the Cape Cod Highland Lighthouse, also known as the Cape Cod Light.

Explore the side streets of Truro and go shopping in the quaint craft stores and local art galleries. Take a hike or bike ride along the rocky shoreline trails. Drift away from shore in a sailboat or take a charter fishing trip. And after a day of adventures and beautiful sights, enjoy the freshest seafood of the Atlantic at any of the world-class restaurants downtown.

Here are a few additional suggestions as you plan your trip:

  • Go on a whale watching excursion: Take a chartered boat trip away from the coast to view dolphins, humpback whales and other now protected marine life in their natural habitat.
  • Play on the beach: Swim, snorkel, explore the tide pools or just bring a good book and relax. Ballston Beach and Cornhill Beach are popular, family friendly destinations.
  • Take an eco-tour: Rent a sea kayak and explore the rocky shores on your own, or take a tour with an experienced guide and learn more about the biodiversity of the northeast coast.
  • Visit the Truro Historical Society Museum: Learn more about the history of the area from the Native Americans who once made their home along these shores.
  • Visit the Highland Lighthouse Museum: Located beside the lighthouse, this museum offers knowledgeable guides and additional information about this historic structure.
  • Go canoeing along the east Pamet River: This is a popular activity in Truro. The river is quiet, beautiful and teeming with birds, butterflies and forest life.

You'll never run out of fun things to do in Truro, and you also won't have any trouble finding the perfect place to stay. Be sure to book a vacation rental close to your favorite activities. Rent a condo near the luxury spas and Highland Links Golf Course, or a beautiful summer villa overlooking the blue waters of the Cape.

Top of Our List

We rent vacation homes and apartments all over the world. In the past 20 years we've rented more than 80 places and this house is in the TOP FIVE of that list. It's perfectly designed for a very comfortable stay up among the trees and private. The house is fully equipped with every modern convenience (except a blender) and the bed and linens are so comfortable. The place is conveniently located between Wellfleet and Truro Center with their excellent restaurants and resources. Mary and Roy are very accommodating and supportive. You won't find better hosts. We highly recommend this house and its gracious owners. Barbara and Bobsee more

A Hidden Gem

I would rather not review and keep this hidden gem, this slice of heaven, all to myself yet that would not be fair to the truly spectacular owner Karen so I will share, briefly. If you are looking for a five star hotel with all the bells and whistles, move along because you won't be happy here. If you are looking for Outer Cape, old fashioned charm all included in a rustic, bayside cottage, this is your place. My kids absolutely loved it here, a short walk up a wooden walkway to a beach, with shells to find on low tide, and perfect sandy floors for swimming at high tide. The views of the Pilgrim Monument from the yard of the cottage was just another plus in regards to this rental. The booking process was tricky as I decided to switch cottages for this one with a bunk bed, yet Karen was so supportive and helpful throughout the entire process. There is just so much to do, and the cabin is nostalgic of the cottages my parents rented for us as kids. I can not say enough good things about this place, a slice of heaven undoubtedly.see more

Sunset View Cottage
Comfortable secluded cottage with a private beach on a lovely kettle pond.

We loved our stay at Sunset View Cottage. The cottage is comfortable and attractively furnished. There is plenty of dining space inside, and picnic tables outside if you choose. The screened in porch has a great view with room to relax and socialize as well as room for a person to sleep in the single bed. The kitchen is great--high end appliances and well-stocked with cookware. There is even an herb garden outside! But the best part is the privacy--you are surrounded by woods with a view of your own private sandy beach on Ryder pond. The sunsets are beautiful. We had morning coffee on our dock, and took advantage of the raft, kayak and rowboat that come with the cottage. Pet friendly--our puppy was welcome and enjoyed the stay. Walking trails across the highway were an added bonus. Christine was a super host. She was available to answer questions at a moments notice and checked in several times to let us know about the farmers' markets in the area, meteor showers, and just to make sure we were comfortable.see more
