“fantastic villa for our family reunion” We were very fortunate to find this fantastic villa for our family reunion. Family from the us, Australia and England all met at the family's historic homeland of Sulmona. The villa's rooms are more like suites or apartments than a standard hotel room. Large balcony, shared with a second room on that floor. Rooms on same floor can be joined (or not) by a common door between. Mike as a very gracious host and was very helpful in helping us get into and around Sulmona. Looking out to the hills and mountains was absolutely beautiful. We were able to take a nice hike from the villa up into the nearby mountains and towns. A great stay for a single, couple or group.

“One of Italy's best kept secret village, with fabulous villa acc” After discovering different parts of Italy many years ago, it was always something we wanted to do as everything about the Italians and their way of life appealed to us. We spent many years going to the Middle East and now we thought why not try Italy again, we came across abruzzo and this fabulous property and just absolutely fell in love with it. We were captivated by the area and it's outstanding beauty both on the coast and in the mountains. The Villa location gives us unbelievable views of lake Bomba that you never tire of. The villa has everything you will need for your Italian dream holiday nothing was missing it is like home from home. The weather in the area is superb and the openness of the people make the area enjoyable all year round. Right in the heart of Bomba village with everything you need on day to day basis. Easy access to all the beautiful villages around. This Villa met all the needs of our family and we will continue to use this for our extended family & friends.

About Abruzzo

Situated east of Rome on the Adriatic coast, Abruzzo is one of Italy's twenty regions and is one of the country's least-populated areas. Perfect for vacationers seeking a traditional Italian experience, Abruzzo offers miles and miles of placid countryside, outstanding authentic cuisine and scenic seacoast beaches. A bridge between northern and southern Italy, Abruzzo is widely considered one of the most beautiful parts of the country and makes for a unique travel experience.

Some of the varied attractions and activities you can enjoy in Abruzzo include:

  • Beaches: Abruzzo has 129 kilometers of coastline, and much of it has been converted to resorts. Kick back and relax on the Adriatic shores in one of Europe's best-kept secrets.
  • Ski resorts: This region is also popular in winter, as the hilly terrain of its interior offers outstanding opportunities to ski Abruzzo. The region is home to some of the most celebrated ski resorts in continental Europe.
  • L'Aquila: The regional capital, L'Aquila, has a history dating back to the mid-13th century and is a perfect place to enjoy the conveniences of urban living without the hustle, bustle and headaches of a busy city.
  • Parks: Abruzzo's parks are beautiful and plentiful, offering a quiet glimpse into the legendary serenity of the Italian countryside. Camping in Abruzzo is inexpensive, and makes for an excellent way to spend a night or two in communion with nature.
  • Food and drink: Abruzzo is home to numerous unique local delicacies, including wild boar ham, liver salami, sheep's cheese and burrata, a treasured delicacy of buttery cheese. Be sure to try ratafia, a black cherry wine that is fermented outdoors during the summer.

The region's location on the Adriatic coast and scenic beauty make it a popular destination in the summer months. However, visiting during the winter is equally rewarding as the region's snow-capped peaks offer outstanding skiing and snowboarding. Vacation rentals make ideal accommodations for visitors to Abruzzo, offering visitors more comfort and privacy than hotels at often more affordable rates. Beachfront villas, urban flats and trendy apartments are among your many options. If you want to continue your Italian sojourn, Abruzzo is only about 50 kilometers east of Rome.

Lovely house in a nice friendly town with great views from the b

March was not the best of months to go but didn't stop us getting out & about. Visited lots of nice places, plenty of nice places to eat & drink, nice towns & beaches to visit including the snow in the mountains. Also went to a lovely chocolate festival, stall after stall of chocolate , a chocolate lovers dream. Green shark pub worth a visit for a free Buffett & chocolate with your baileys. Would like to go back again & take friends next year when it's warmer.see more

Amazing Abruzzo

We stayed at Gaimia Villas for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Mike was a great host and always answered emails promptly and was very helpful prior to arrival. Arnie welcomed us and helped settle us in, providing beautiful white cherries from the garden and a welcoming bottle of wine. He even accompanied us to the supermarket in Sulmona. A very thoughtful man. The unit was spacious, well appointed, very clean and the massive balcony set it off beautifully, providing a magnificent outdoor space to admire the natural beauty of Abruzzo. The grounds surrounding the units were lovely to walk in and a credit to the work of Mike and Arnie. We had a car and were able to travel to many villages, including nearby Sulmona which was so rich in history. Mike and Arnie were able to help us with many suggestions of places to visit. Mike also included us in several culturally rich local experiences and these made our stay in Abruzzo particularly special. Thank you for opening our eyes to this stunning region of Italy and for providing such excellent, well priced and appointed units.see more
