Charming village house in hidden Andalusia best of both worlds.

Posada San Marcos was opened in July 2011, a village house renovated to exacting environmentally friendly standards by the Spanish-Anglo owners Ángel and Lucy. Alájar is just over 1 hour's drive from Seville airport but you feel like you have been through a time warp once you arrive. Narrow cobbled streets (detailed directions provided) lead you to the Posada - a simple fronted house hiding the spacious rooms, gardens and swimming pool beyond, offering you the best of both worlds. A 3 minute stroll leads you to the village square where you can find a choice of bars, restaurants and shops, meanwhile the house backs onto the stream and cork clad ...Read more

Additional Location Information

A hidden gem in southern Spain, Alájar’s geographic position in the park provides the perfect base for a range of activities and unforgettable experiences – from walks both relaxed and challenging, to Ham and Olive Oil tasting, yoga weeks, canyoning, horse riding, mountain biking, Nordic walking....
The area is renowned for Iberian Ham, ham produced from the native black pig, reared free range in this area and fed on acorns towards the end of its life. But it isn’t only the ham that’s fantastic. The quality of all pork produced in the area is impossible to find even close by in Seville. We know the best places to eat and the best places to buy ham and other charcuterie. As a trained chef, Lucy also provides delicious home cooked food using as much local and organic ingredients as possible.

Close to the Portugese border, just over 1 hour away from Seville Airport. Access is feasible by car on good roads (part motorway and part national road) and public transport (detailed directions provided on booking). On road parking is available right outside the hotel.

Every season has something special to offer - the spring flowers fill the sierra with colour and aroma, the summer months are cooler than nearby Sevilla and the village fiestas begin to make the most of the long cool nights, autumn offers crisp cool days and changing colours as the sweet chestnut leaves fall to the ground helping sustain the right conditions for a wild mushroom feast, along with figs, walnuts and quince meat, the perfect partner for the homemade goats cheese of the area. Winter days offer clear blue skies and wonderful walking oportunities to justify the delicious food!
