Description

A traditional village property which rambles delightfully up and down over four floors, it has been beautifully restored, refurbished and updated by its English owners. The result is wonderful, both inside and out!

A real home (the owners spend about half the year here), they have completely re-styled it with exemplary good taste. Whilst they have remained true to its traditional country-cottage style (its splendid original features have been carefully restored and retained), it is now finished to the very highest standards. With top quality furnishings, including some beautiful pieces imported from Mexico, and fantastic attention to detail, it all adds up to a really compelling and comfortable home.

“Real Spain with Buck's Fizz”

It is rare for reality to match up with optimistic copyrighter’s descriptions of products. Estate Agents are notorious; celebrity chefs and their overpriced menus are not far behind; play reviews on Bill Boards outside theatres are not to be trusted. But here there was something that did live up to what it said on the tin and perhaps a bit more. We had heard reports of this idyll in the heartland of real Spain from friends who had visited previously. We had prevaricated (what could we do with the dog?) but eventually gave in, parked the dog with a relative and set off to Seville to follow the recommendation. An hour and half after landing we were there. At first the house seemed rather diffident and shy, modest and understated as it presented itself to us from the street. Its windows were like eyes that were tightly shut against the blazing September sun. However once the door was opened and the gloom dispersed by opening the shutters and letting the insistent sunlight flood in, then all modesty was dispelled. It was like the skirt being ripped off Cheryl Baker in the 1981 Eurovision Song Contest. As we moved through the house, veils continued to fall and the house revealed itself to be tardis-like in the number and variety of rooms and outdoor spaces. What was revealed was a house that is obviously loved as a holiday let has no right to be - cool and elegant with some fantastically creative flourishes, but comfortable and welcoming all the same - bits of Spain juxtaposed with the best of British. How is it, we wondered, that some are gifted with the knack of wrapping a piece of cloth around a lump of wood, leaving it looking like elegant drapery fresh from the pages of a glossy magazine? While others like us would attempt the same with the result that it would look like a piece of wood wrapped in cloth! The village has every amenity only a short walk away. There are towns that are fun to explore, hippies to greet and locals to chat to. No seaside, but a good sized swimming pool and lovely walks in the woods and over the hills. No nightclubs but cosy bars, cafes and restaurants, and the comforting sound of the Black Pigs snuffling through to cork oak forests as they prepare themselves for the dinner table. Yes we tasted “Real Spain” in more ways than one, and would recommend others do the same.
