Villa Arnò enjoys a reputation as one of the finest country houses close to the city of Reggio Emilia. and is listed in the Italian monumental and landscape heritage. It was built in the 1880' s for a family of the landed gentry and has been inhabited by the present owners, the Arn0' family, since the early 1950's. Villa Arnò was built in the neo-classical style and lies in a 4 acres park with century old trees, a very quiet and enjoyable place in the May -to -October of the Bed and Breakfast opening season.
Villa Arnò is centrally located in a very interesting part of Italy. Renowned cities boasting superb art works, like Parma, Modena, Bologna and Mantua can be reached within a 40 to 60 minutes car drive Besides, the newly built "Reggio Emilia Medio Padana" high-speed train station, an architectural masterpiece signed by Santiago Calatrava, allows easy and comfortable day trips to major italian cities: "Freccia Rossa" and "Italo" trains take 40 minutes to MIilan, 20 minute to Bologne, one hour to Florence and about one hour anda half to Venice (and Rome is just 2 and half hours away),
Superb landscapes of the Appenines extend on a lenght of about 100 km up and beyond the ridge marking the border between Northern Italy and Tuscany, starting just south of Villa Arnò; this is an extraordinary area for trekking and mountain biking, with plenty of well parked paths
Close to Villa Arnò guests can visit a number of interesting places : Germans are particularly interested in the ruins of the castle of Canossa, where, in the year 1077 a.d. the german emeperor Henry IV met the Pope, Gregory VII after repenting three days and nights ina ankle-deep snow outside the castle; or the very fine private art collection of the Magnani Rocca foundation: where visitors can enjoy amongs others,masterpieces by Goya, Durer, Botticelli, Monet and a fine collection of paintings by Morandi; or the "Ferrari" museum, and it's collectione of the finest racing and sports cars the Ferrari Car industry has been manufacturing since 1946 , or the "Villa Ducale" in Sassuolo, the small "Versailles" of Duke Francis I , the ruler of Modena in the 17th century. Last but not least, amateurs of contemporary art can visit the Maramotti legacy museum:, the result of a life-long collecting activity by the late Achille Maramotti, the founder of Max Mara fashoin house and industries.
Villa Arnò has three double rooms; each room has it's own bathroom. A sitting room provides our guests with a small stereo and a small collection of classics, especcialy operas,. And there's plenty of books, in Italian, English and French, all over the house. Villa Arnò has it's own wi-fi net, consequently our guests can use theyr own pc, but if necessary they can use one of the spare laptops in the house.
Fine restaurants, some of them located in beautiful sightseeing places are close to villa Arnò, and the entire area is rich with cellars where local producs like "Lambrusco" wine," Balsamico tradizionale vinegar" and Parmesan cheese can be purchased. Within a small distance further, in the center of Reggio, at a distance of 9 km from villa Arnò, there is a number of fine or very fine restaurants , up to the reputatio of the Emilia-Romagna region where fine food is concerned.
Reggio Emilia itself is a fine old city to visit, especially on tuesday and friday mornings when the entire center of the city is busy with the large open - air market and all sort of bargains can be obtained, especcialy for garments and kitchenware and food. A visit is recommended to the main churches of Reggio Emilia, especially the Duome, San Prospero and "Basilica della Ghiara".
