Additional Location Information

La Joya is situated in the traditional white village of Albunuelas - set amid the orange orchards of the picturesque Rio Santo Gorge. There is horse-riding from the village up into the beautiful Sierra de Albunuelas and mountain-bike hire available locally and this also an ideal location for walks, picnics, or simply as a place to relax and enjoy the dramatic scenery and tranquil surroundings. The location is equidistant (about 25 mins) between historic Granada (a beautiful city for strolling around with many lovely plazas and fountains and, of course, the stunning Alhambra Palace) and the coves of the Costa Tropical where you can eat fresh fish in the chiringuitas right on the beach. La Joya is situated close to Casa Idrisi and these properties can be rented out together to larger parties if desired. Car access is not possible to the house, but it is possible to park in the square nearby or in the free village car park.

More about Albunuelas:
The village of Albunuelas has a couple of small shops, bakery, pharmacy, bank, 4 tapas bars and a restaurant – all within 5-10 mins stroll. There are other nice restaurants dotted around the Lecrin Valley. The village square has a weekly market with fresh local produce on Thursdays. The baker and the local fish vendor deliver fresh bread and the "catch of the day" from the Mediterranean around the village every morning (listen out for the tooting of horns around 9.00 am and the cries of “panadero” or "pescadero").

In summer – there are also some additional “summer bars” open and sometimes open-air music in the Upper Barrio. The week-long village fiesta (in the week before 15th August) is a great time to visit - with flamenco and music every night, sangria in the village square, entertainments during the day, religious processions and a big firework display at the end. The Pleides meteor show also passes over in August - so it can be very pleasant to just sit on the roof-terrace with a glass of something in the evenings and count shooting stars!

The barrio bajo of Albunuelas is a typical Spanish village with white, flower-draped, houses clinging to the slopes of the Rio Santo gorge. There is a car park at the top of the village but streets were built for donkey traffic, not cars and are narrow and sometimes quite steep. The pay off lies in the tranquility, the stunning views of the Rio Santo gorge and the unspoilt traditional lifestyle.

More about Lecrin Valley:
The Lecrin valley has been described in the Independent as one of the loveliest locations in the country, American Vogue has just described it as the “new Tuscany”, and it offers a window on the real Spain while still offering everything the holidaymaker needs - bank, shops, restaurants, bars and swimming pools. There are some lovely restaurants and truly epic tapas bars dotted around the villages of the Valley close to Albunuelas - and some of them open up nice swimming pools in summer for the use of customers - so one doesn't have to outlay the additional expense of large villa with pool - as its possible here to enjoy a very pleasant afternoon enjoying a swim, followed by a drink or pleasant meal by the pool at fraction of the cost. There are also beaches, water parks, golf, water sports and skiing (in season) nearby.

We can also help to arrange Spanish lessons, tapas tours of Granada, tours of the Albaicin, wine and food tasting of local specialities, walking trips, cycle tours, rock climbing, paragliding or courses in painting, cookery, flamenco. Chef services or one-off meals for special occasions can also be arranged
