MOGALAKWENA (metaphor which means “fierce crocodile”) comprises the River Lodge, Craft Art Village, Artist’s Retreat, Research Centre and Bush Camp.
The River Lodge is positioned on the banks of the Mogalakwena River and blends harmoniously into the African bush. The main lodge consists of four rooms, swimming pool, dining and open lounge areas, as well as a lower and upper viewing deck. Four luxury thatched chalets provide supreme comfort with an exquisite view over the Mogalakwena River.
Activities offered at The River Lodge include game drives, wildlife walks and fishing. Guests and birders enjoy the beauty and wealth of fauna and flora found on the Mogalakwena Reserves.
Mogalakwena Craft Art Village is the creative hub of the Mogalakwena Craft Art Development Foundation. It was established in 1994 by Dr Elbe Coetsee and invests in the local community by developing local traditional skills, creating employment opportunities, preserving indigenous culture and traditional knowledge systems, and creating high-quality hand made products. Mogalakwena Craft Art specialises in training of a wide range of skills including embroidery, beadwork, weaving, pottery and the basic principles of cultural tourism. Accommodation at the Artist’s Retreat consists of four self-catering, twin en-suite bedrooms as well as a Writer’s Cottage.
The Bush Camp is situated 100m for the River Lodge and sleeps 20 guests in 4 comfortable chalets. The Bush Camp offers an open kitchen and dining area as well as a boma.
The Mogalakwena Research Center is an independent research organisation with the aim to document, research and further understanding and knowledge in the fields of ecology and anthropology in South Africa.
Mogalakwena offers the discerning guest an abundance of activities and experiences which are all focused on experiencing the soul of Africa.
