Additional Location Information

Blacksmiths Cottage is situated in the pretty hamlet of Alnham within the Northumberland National Park and Gold tier International Dark Sky Park. Step out into a myriad of footpaths and bridleways with sheltered valleys, hidden waterfalls, and dramatic hills rich in wildlife and archaological finds. Northumberland is the last wilderness in England, so why not take a car and enjoy rural Northumberland without hardly passing another car or person having a break at a tea room suggested in one of the many varied itineraries offered in the cottage. Blacksmiths cottage is centrally located and is ideal for exploring coast and country. The Heritage Coastline castles of Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and Alnwick rise from the golden empty beaches beckoning you to explore. Cross the border into Scotland for the day, visit Hadrians Wall, Kielder Reservoir the largest man-made lake in Europe, or immerse yourself in the history of Northumberland and the border battles between the English and the Scots - namely the infamous 'Border Reivers' and the 'Battle of Flodden' where the last king, James IV of Scotland, was to die in battle.

Transport to and from the local airport or train station at Newcastle, or more locally Alnmouth station, can be arranged.
