An large spacy Villa with direct entrance to the sea for snorkling an diving!
In it's inception, Villa Celagi is about space, light, harmony and refreshing breezes. The house and adjoining terraces are groundfloor. The large living space is the central area of the house, 100 m2. Take a seat at the big wooden table and you discover the fantastic view of the Bali Sea. When the large glass doors are opened, outside and inside flow together. This part of the living room has an enormously high Balinese alang-alang roof. A portion of the room is visually divided from the rest by a Balinese-carved wooden cabinet, creating a room in a room. In the evening this is the place to watch (satellite)TV, listen to your favorite music , read a good book or working on your laptop (there is WiFi). The ceiling fan provides a lovely cool breeze.
Both bedrooms are identical: 30 m2 plus the bathroom and wardrobe space with spacious cupboards and drawers, two washbasins, shower and toilet.
The beds are king size, with spring mattress (210 x 180 cm). The bedroom is completely furnished with mosquito net, desk, dress boy and comfortable chairs. One room has an extra single bed.
An alang-alang roof funnels off the warm air here too, but an air conditioner provides back-up cooling if the temperatures are too high to sleep. Along the side of the house, the bedrooms provide access to shadowed patios with private outdoor seating. Each bedroom has its own entrance to the house, so you can enter and exit the house without disturbing others. That makes the house very suitable, for example, for two couples! From the Bale Benong, the covered Balinese elevated deck, next to the swimming pool (7x15 m), situated on a lower terrace between the house and the sea, it looks as if the water in the pool flows directly over the infinity edge into the Bali Sea below. From the garden the sea can be reached via a beautiful flight of steps. So you can snorkel, dive in front of the house or.... just sit and muse on the terrace by the sea.
Because of the inclining terrain it is not a safe environment for (small) children or for people with physical impairments.
You'll find Villa Celagi directly east of the small village of Banyuning. Banyuning, itself only 8 kilometers from Amed, is on one of the most picturesque coastlines of Bali. Directly behind the small coastal road the hills rise sharply to the rugged peaks of Seraya and Agung. The winding road connects a series of small authentic fishing villages; and as it occasionally rises above the rocky cliffs, it offers fantastic views of the small-untouched bays with their alternating black and white sandy beaches. This peaceful ambiance is only 2.5 hours from southern Bali, a stark contrast to the congestion and noise around Denpasar. Along the mountain ridges and in the valleys you find villages that seem to have escaped the influence of modern times. There corn, nuts and vegetables are farmed. On the lower hillsides you find the terraced paddy fields. The region is known for its pleasing landscape and the relaxed life style of its inhabitants, who live as they have always lived. The constant cool breeze from sea to land adds to the sense that here life itself is lovely.
An experienced and friendly staff, including a villa manager, a private cook/housekeeper and a gardener are on hand to provide full services. A night time security guard also complete the staff team, all of whom reside in the local villages and will help add to that special Balinese experience and make your stay all the more memorable.
The staff can arrange all your short- or day trips. Amed area holds some of the best diving spots in Bali. Several diving schools operate here offering diving trips and courses. The famous USS Liberty ship wreck is located nearby Tulamben and a few minutes from Villa Celagi you can dive and snorkel near the Japanese patrol boat, sunk in world war II. A unique traditional way of salt production has been practiced for many generations by salt-farmers along Amed's coastline. Facinating hiking trails will take you across beautifull Balinese countryside: the paddy fields, the sunrise from Mount Agung, through the little villages where the time seems to have stopped. The population consist mainly of farmers and craftsman, like the boat builders near Bangle. Attend an upacara, a typical Balinese ceremony. There are a lot of, the staff can tell you where and when and it's possible they will invite you for their own upacara! Don't forget to visit the shaman (fortune-teller) of Culik, an extraordinary experience!
Of course the staff can arrange day trips for you from Villa Gelag to the more well known tourist attractions of Bali like the mother temple of the Besakih (2 hrs drive), waterpalace of Tirtagangga (45 min.), Tengananan historic village (1 hr), the silversmiths of Bulakeling (1 hr) etc, etc....Read more

We stayed here for 3 nights to relax. It is a beautiful house to visit. It is a bit isolated but that was what we wanted. The staff are very attentive and friendly and very obliging. It is possible to snorkel from the bottom of the stairs making any travel unnecessary. It was a really enjoyable experience for us and we hope to return next year. The owner, management and staff all deserve a good pat on the back !!!

Villa Celagi is by far the most beautiful house I have ever seen during my vacations (and that have been several !) Every morning when you wake up the Indian Ocean at your feet, a beautiful swimming pool and a terrace which invites you to relax and enjoy the stunning view of the sunrise. The service is very good. The personnel in the house takes care of your personal well being in a very friendly way. Lunch, breakfast en dinner, whatever you choose, the taste is good. The driver takes you where ever you want and gives a good explanation of the culture of the island. The location is not too touristic which gives an good idea of the original way of living at Bali. Facilities for snorkeling and diving are splendid. So in a few words: I had the vacation of my life caused by amongst other things the house, the people and the surroundings. I certainly will go back to this place.

My husband and I stayed at Villa Celagi for 5 nights at the end of august 2013. What a wonderful surprise following a long drive up from the airport. We were welcomed by Wayan the housekeeper who was absolutely fantastic for the whole of the stay and a great cook also. We enjoyed several meals prepared by Wayan and my husband especially liked the black rice pudding. Each morning we awoke to a glorious view out over the ocean and a beautiful smile from Komang who attended expertly to the gardens and pool. We don't really want to recommend anyone staying at this villa as we want to keep it to ourselves, but that would be just a little selfish of us. We love the amed area as it is so peaceful. Thank you Hermine and Roelof Jan for allowing us to stay at your beautiful villa we are looking forward to returning for a longer stay next time.
“Great place to stay, beautiful view, fantastic sunrise over Lomb”

We stayed here for six days in the summer of 2011. Villa Celagi is a beautiful, spacious villa south of amed, in a quiet part of Bali. The view over Strait Lombok is fantastic, with jukungs arriving every morning under a fabulous sunrise. The Villa is situates on the steep rocky coast and has access to the sea. Snorkling near the coast is possible and with good weather conditions (not too windy) we very much recommend a snorkling trip to the Japanese wreck. Wayan serves a very nice breakfast each morning, and we often asked her to prepare a dinner for us in the afternoon. We made some trips, and very much liked our visit of two waterpalaces. Villa Celagi is a great place to stay!

I stayed with 3 friends in villa Celagi. The drive from the airport was a good thing to start our visit to Bali. Villa Celagi is a very special place to enjoy and to relax. If you like you can have a massage. There is also the opportunity to ask for a driver who can bring you to very secial places. There is a silver factory in the neighbourhood and I bought some very beautifull things! The service is excellent:Wayan cooked very good for us. The home is super: if you like you can sleep outside near the swimmingpool. The people are very friendly and made my stay in Villa Celagi very comfortable.

I stayed at Villa Celagi for a long weekend in mid-January. It is hard to capture the beauty of the place in words. A few key design aspects that I thoroughly enjoyed: 1) eating at the dining room table watching the sea 2) the comfortable 'net enclosed' bed 3) swimming in the pool watching the fishing boats pass 4) lounging in the cabana next to the pool and listening to the waves.
We ate several meals at the house - all delicious, in particular the nasi goring and sate dinners. Thank you Wiwan!
Wiwan and Golman, who work at the house, are both very nice.
The surrounding area of amed was fun to explore - driving along the coast, visiting a school for natural weaving and dyeing, walking around a small mountain village, and going to the local cafes.
Overall - Indonesia is a country that I hope to return to in the near future, and Villa Celagi is a place where I hope to return to rest, swim, explore, and enjoy the local food.

I liked Villa Celagi very well. I visit Bali now since 10 years, but this was the most beautiful place, I saw.
The cook really understood to make Balinese food in a way Europeans could not get enough of it. The house is beautiful and decorated in a way I like a lot. Between the house and the see is the large swimming pool. Both the garden and the pool is looked for by Komang. He also does a very good job. From the house there is a nice view on the delphins in the sea.

Villa Celagi is a beautiful place on the island. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is at least one hour driving away from the touristic events of Bali but the quitness and authentic neighborhood makes it worthwhile for sure. the view from the villa over the sea to Lombok is magnificent. If you want the staff can prepare tasty local meals with fresh fish caught that morning in the front of the villa. Here you can experience the local way of living on Bali by walking through the neighborhood. The villa is very comfortable and clean. Watch the sunrise from your bedroom and notice the return of the colorful fisherboats.

Villa Celagi gives you a luxurious feeling. The villa is situated in amed on the east coast of Bali just on the seaside with amazing views on the ocean. We saw the sunrise every morning and discovered the dolphins sometimes passing by.
The service was great with our own staff who took care for us, but in a very private atmosphere.
The swimmingpool is large and all good maintained. Good snorkeling very close to the villa from the beach nearby or you can also snorkeling from the villas own entrance to the sea.
