To wake up in the morning with the reflection of the sunlight on the surface of the water and hear the sound of water birds is a unique way to live within the city. To share with you the experience and feeling of living on a houseboat in the canals of Amsterdam, we would like to welcome you to the Watercradle. This unique small houseboat that recently had its interior completely renovated and is a perfect place to stay for two people looking to spend a great time in a lovely city.
The Watercradle has a comfortable king-size bed (1. 80 x 2. 00), a stylish bathroom, a modern and small but fully equipped kitchen, wifi and television. You will enjoy to sit on your own little terrace on the waterside and watch the water birds. The Watercradle is located on a quiet walkway (no cars in front of the boat), just a few hundred meters from the Jordan, well-known for its canals, markets, cosy pubs and restaurants and the Anne Frank House.
The Watercradle is located about 200 meters from the Jordaan in the historic center of Amsterdam. The Jordaan is an area full of small restaurants, terraces, fun shops alternating with beautiful canals, small streets and with a variety of wonderful historic buildings. The Jordan also features the well-known shopping area the Negen kleine Straatjes (literally: Nine Little Streets) with its many small shops and cozy restaurants. Within walking distance you will find highlights like the Anne Frank House, the Wester Tower, the Dam Square, the Royal Palace and the Amsterdam Historic Museum. The Watercradle is easily reachable by car and public transport, but once you're here, the easiest means of transportation is by bicycle. We rent out bicycles ourselves. The Watercradle is a few minutes walk from the nicest shopping street in Amsterdam (and Awarded second best shopping street of the Netherlands 2011): Haarlemmerdijk and about 10 minutes by bike from Central Station or the Leidseplein. It is a mere 500 meters walk to the beautiful North, and recently fully renovated Westerpark, also known as the "Culture Park" or Amsterdam. In Westerpark you will find a classic Victorian style park section, a large center section for cultural events and a more rugged part with trails for walkers or runners. Centrally located in the park you can enjoy a super breakfast in the nearby Bakkerswinkel. Every Sunday of the month there is a farmers market in the park. If you're looking for something very close to the Watercradde, we recommend the Paviljoen. In summary, a peaceful but central location in a nice neighbourhood in Amsterdam.
ACCESSIBILITY: From the airport you can take a train to central station (20 min). From there you can either walk (20 minutes), take a cab (approximately € 13) or take bus 21 (less than 10 minutes). To take bus 21. When you arrive at Central Station, exit on the city side (main exit). Take bus No. 21 and get off after 5 minutes at the stop "of Beuningenplein". At the other side of the street you will see a large square garden with a play: the "from Beuningenplein". Take the road left of this square (Second Keucheniusstraat) and follow 150 meters to the very end. You are in front of the houseboat for the check-in
When you decide to come by car. You can almost always park your car in front of the Watercradle. However, Amsterdam is not very "car friendly" as the city charges rather high rates for parking. Alternatively, go to Park and Ride Amsterdam for cheaper parking options. The Park and Ride That is closest to us, is the P&R; Bos en Lommer. The cost for Park and Ride is € 8 per day. They offer return tickets for public transport free of charge. GPS coordinates: 52. 38023, 4. 86877...Read more

My wife and I enjoy our break here. Slightly off the beaten track yet only 10 minutes by bus from amsterdam Centraal. Watercradle is in a lovely quiet location just a short walk from the main attractions of amsterdam. Doet is a fine hostess who helped us get settled quickly and comfortably.
Would highly recommend as a big improvement on any hotel. For a nice small Italian restaurant nearby try Bella Storia just a short walk away.

We are just back from a 3 night stay at the Watercradle in amsterdam, and can only give top marks for our accommodation. The 'Watercradle' is exactly as described on the website. The accommodation was very clean and functional with everything you need to self cater, ie, kettle, coffee machine, toaster, microwave, hob etc. The bathroom is very stylish and supplied with plenty of towels. Shower is very good too. The bed is large, very comfortable with very good quality linen. The TV was positioned so could be watched in bed or from small dining area. On arrival at central station, we walked to the houseboat as we are familiar with the city, it's about a 20min walk, but a nice walk! The host, Doet, who lives nearby, is very pleasant. Immediately on arrival, she took us to the Watercradle and helped us settle in, showing how everything works. She also gave us directions to the nearest supermarket and recommended a nice bakery and deli. She was at the other end of the phone if we needed anything, although we only saw her on check-in and check-out. Overall, we had a fantastic stay at the Watercradle and would thoroughly recommend this charming little houseboat to everyone who wants something different to a hotel break. Might even be back ourselves someday!
Dear Martine, It was a pleasure having both of you as our guest and it is so good to hear that you really enjoyed your stay in Amsterdam at the Watercradle. Hope to see you back one day.
All the best for both of you
Kind regards, Doet Bierma

Our stay at the watercraddle in May 2013 was wonderful. Doet and her husband were very friendly and helpful. There is everything you need (and even more) at the houseboat, it is just like on the photos. The neighbourhood is very quiet and we never were so close to ducks and swans. We also rented bikes from Doet, what was very useful for visiting the town: You can reach the city center, but also the Rijksmuseum and so on in just a few minutes. We can recommend the watercraddle and we will certainly come back to it for our next trip to amsterdam. Thank you again, Doet, for your lovely help with our e-tickets.
Dear Stefanie, thank you very much and so happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at the Watercradle in Amsterdam that good. We would be pleased to welcome you next time.
Warm regards, Doet Bierma

Quiet area in a residential community on a canal. Walking distance to bus & tram lines, restaurants, etc. Easy to reach tourist destinations. The tram stops in front of the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museums at Museumstraat 1 amsterdam. (www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/general-information) Enjoyed our stay and found the owners to be very helpful and easy to work with. Email communication was prompt and in English. The houseboat was modern, tastefully decorated, well equipped, with an exceptional bed and quality linens.

We enjoyed every minute in this wonderful houseboat ! Everything was clean and beautiful inside. The bathroom is big enough, the bedroom is very nice, and the little kitchen is very convenient. There's a cute little terrace outside, too.
Doet was really kind and helpful with us, it was a real pleasure to meet her and her nice children.
Many interesting places in the city are located in the west part of amsterdam. With a bike (Doet is renting bikes too), you just need 5 or 10 min to reach all these spots.

The place is superb, just two people on a nicely aranged swimming home. It's something special, with all the comfort of a 4* hotel suite, except that you need to keep it tidy yourself. For us this is no issue, we like that kind of independency. The area is quite, in the morning you can listen to the birds.
We had a warm welcome by the owner, showing us all. She lives just a few meters away on another boat, so you may contact her easily. She is very, very helpful, giving us great recommendations what to do and which restaurants are worthwhile to visit, and she did all the reserbations for me and my wife. On top we were able to rent bicycles from her very easily and comfortably.
I really can recommend the place, looking forward to our next stay.
Thank you very much for your nice words. It is a pleasure to read that you enjoyed your stay at the Watercradle.
Wish you all the best,

Wow! This is one of the best places we have been to in amsterdam! Very homely and tasteful. The boat is situated in a quite area but yet a walking distance away from the hustle and bustle of amsterdam!
Perfect and friendly service from Doet, our hostess , and her lovely family.
We will certainly be back!

This houseboat is the best private holiday stay I ever came across. It is like living in your own studio on water.
The place has a modern bathroom, kitchen, king size bed and table .. all you need. Oh, I forgot to mention the espresso machine and free wifi internet.
And this all in a cute small houseboat on a quiet bicycle path in a safe environment.
Close to the city center but out of the buzz. And a bicycle is available for rent too. Perfect !
