Additional Location Information
Le Marche and surroundings
Le Marche is a part of Italy where nature is still natural and untouched. It lies in between the Apenines and the Adriatic Sea in Central Italy and it features a coastline, mountains and picturesque villages. Furthermore during the peak season there are no crowds there and you can still enjoy the Italian Cuisine for reasonable prices. The freshly made pasta’s, mushrooms, truffles, wild boar and all kinds of fish and shell fish are out of this world.
The countryside has a variegated flora and fauna. The undulating hills are scattered with vineyards, olive groves, mais-, sunflower – and cornfields and are ideal for taking walking-, bicycle-, and horseback trips or just touring by car. Discovering Le Marche by motorbike is sublime.
The road from Ancona via Umbria towards Rome opens up different possibilities of discovering for example the sea, various cities and the caves at Frasassie.
Le Marche is not called ”the best kept secret of Italy’ for nothing.
Still unknown by the Dutch, but very much worth the effort, is the possibility of skiing at the Gran Sasso and at Monti Sibilini ( no more than 90 kilometres from the villa) during the winter months.
Photo’s of the ski slopes at Frontignano ( Monti Sibilini Macerata) and of the Ussita can be found in the photo gallery. Skiing in the Gran Sasso and at Monti Sibilini can be enjoyed from the beginning of November right up until the end of April. Check (website: hidden) and (website: hidden) for the latest snow reports.
In both areas there are many good facilities for both experienced skiers, beginners and children.
There is also a magnificent indoor SKATINGRINK!
During the summer months the snowcapped mountains form a beautiful backdrop to the many possible hiking trips. Whilst hiking you can suddenly find yourself surrounded by grazing sheep.
The highest peak, the Monte Vettore (at 2.476 metres), reaches well above this national park. Centrally situated in between the mountain peaks lies the Piano Grande, which literally means ‘the great plain’.
This is an impressive sight, especially during the spring, when the plain is covered in thousands of colourful wildflowers.
Also there is the nature reserve of Gola Della Rossa, where you can go for walks, mountain biking or where you can visit the famous Frasassie caves.
Beach lovers are in their element here on the Adriatic coast. After a 45 minute drive ( 25 kilometres) you reach the beach at Porto Recanati, where there is a marvelous view of the cliffs of Ancona. Also there are plenty more beautiful beaches in the vicinity. Another option is driving to Civitanova (also a 45 minute drive) where there is another fine beach.
Sirolo (see the 2 photo’s in the photo gallery) is surrounded by the cliffs of Monte Conero.
The beautiful white beaches at Porto San Giorgo and at Cupra Marittima, visited by many tourists, are also worth seeing and strolling along the boulevard.
There are more beautiful white beaches to be found at the Riviera DellePalme of Grottammare and San Benedetto del Tronto.
There is a beautiful 18 hole professional Golf Course “Conero Golfclub” at Sirolo ( 45 minute drive), where you can spend a relaxing day.
The Dam at Cingoli
A bit closer to the villa ( a 10 minute drive) is the Dam at Cingoli where it is possible to swim and hire a pedalo. You can relax on the beach ‘arcobalenco’, a great place with a hippy atmosphere of the sixties .
Waterworld Eldorado Apiro
Real water lovers can visit the waterworld with its various slides and swimming pools at Eldorado in Apiro, situated on a hill with a fantastic view. Especially the mega slide running down the mountain side is a must. There is something for all ages, even for the youngest.
There is a shallow swimming pool for the very young children with plenty of shade.
It is also quiet because it is mainly visited by Italians.
Sun loungers and umbrellas are available.
