Description

Karmi Apartments are two one-bedroom apartments (A1 and A2) on the ground floor of a 1920's stone-built two-storey house. A third apartment on the first floor is used exclusively by my family and is not for rent. The whole house underwent a renovation that was extensive and expensive, lasted 4 years and was completed in 2008.

The two ground floor flats are about 60m2 each.They are fully furnished of identical layout. Each consists of one bedroom with double bed, a large sitting room with a double sofa-bed, a dining room leading to an open kitchen and a shower/toilet room with. In apartment A1 there is a washing machine that is shared with apartment A2. The dining-room can easily double up as a second bedroom. The ground floor apartments share a huge sea-facing veranda, ideal to sit out, eat and drink and enjoy panoramic views of village and sea.

We chose the name KARMI Apartments because when we first visited Stenies it reminded us very much of the village of Karmi in Kyrenia Cyprus. My wife Lena comes from Kyrenia and we both have fond memories of the area from before the 1974 Turkish invasion.

IMPORTANT

Stenies is on a hill and there are no vehicles in the village. There are 300m to walk and then 50 steps up to get to the apartments. If anyone in your group has mobility problems or serious health issues check with me first before finalising your booking.

Getting around

There are presently no supermarkets or grocery stores at Stenies You need to get your provisions in nearby Nimborio or at Hora. The nearest restaurants are about 20 minutes walk from Karmi. I strongly recommend having your own transport. If you want to do justice to visiting Andros you need to wander around and discover places. Many visitors prefer to hire mopeds. Either way, make sure you book your transport early as most rental places run out particularly in peak season. I can recommend car-hire locals as well as taxis which are numerous and relatively inexpensive.

Interaction with guest

When I am not present at Stenies to personally welcome you, my housekeeper will meet you at the village square, escort you to KARMI Apartments, show you round the apartment and give you your key. As I rent other properties elsewhere in Greece I cannot be everywhere at the same time. However, I am always just one phone call away at anytime. I am more than willing to over tips and advise and sort out any problems you may have to help make your stay at KARMI and your holidays in general more enjoyable.

House rules

The two apartments are accessible from separate walkways. They share a big veranda. There is no partition on the veranda as this would interfere with the view and ambiance. Please respect your neighbours at all times.
Pets are generally allowed, but first check with me and get my consent before booking.
Smoking allowed only on the veranda but not inside the apartments.

Response from the owner This is a most unfair review. You arrived to Andros without having rental car even though I warned you repeatedly about the need for a car.and sent you contact details of local car rental companies well in advance. I subsequently spent a lot of time trying to find you transport even though this was not my responsibility. Now you criticise my place for being low budget. I followed strict rules to renovate my apartments at very high cost, including double-glaze wooden doors and windows. The furniture you complain about having to take in and out is German-make (MBL) and definitely not cheap. There are 14 framed Andros modern art museum posters on the walls of each apartment, most under dedicated spot lights,, hardly what you would expect to find in a low budget apartment. I don't see what is you problem with having wall mounted reading spot lights in the bedroom instead of bedside table lamps. I telephoned you many times during your stay to make sure everything was ok in view of not having any transport, yet you never complained about the lack of washing machine. If you needed to use a washing machine during your 7 days of your stay, you could have used either your neighbours' or the one in my own flat. All you needed to do is ask instead of being negative in your review. Finally, my permanent home is in Cyprus. Yet throughout your stay I was in Crete where I also do holiday rentals and any telephone communication we had was with my Greek mobile at local rates. Moreover I was the ones that was calling you. Therefore it is not rue that communicating with me was expensive. On the day of your departure I called you to advise you that ferries were not running that day. You never complained about your stay at KARMI Apartments and instead you thanked me for your stay.. I very much regret that you are now proving to be most unexpectedly nothing more that an ungrateful moaner.... . . . .

“Holidays with an authentic and artistic flair”

It was one of my best holidays! The flat is in the middle of Stenies and it is not touristic at all. It actually preserves the authenticity of the village. It is tastefully done with an artistic decoration,simple and elegant furniture. Strongly recommended for romantic getaways !
