Despite our short trip being plagued from beginning to end with anything from a delayed then rerouted flight that forced us to cancel plans for day one in NC, to a broken down rental car that nearly left us stranded at Biltmore estate, to a vomiting child on our return flight we have nothing but fond memories of it all. The children delighted in exploring the property, especially the fort, the pond, the "lookout" (their favorite hide and seek spot even when you could clearly spot them from the top of the stairs), playing Chutes and Ladders for the first time, putting together puzzles, playing ping pong and (attempting) to light the fire pit. The views are amazing and the location totally central but feels secluded/ private. We didn't feel abandoned however, as the owners live in an adjacent home so we were confident that help was there if needed. Two pieces of advice to anyone planning to come (and I would highly recommend coming!): check out the cabinets before going grocery shopping as they are pretty well stocked (hot chocolate, salt, pepper, spices, etc. in addition to pots, pans, utensils, plates, SKEWERS FOR THE FIRE PIT: WOOHOO! etc.); be aware there are only 2 private bedrooms and 2 showers: one bathroom is a 1/2 bath near the entrance, full bath w/shower in main floor/master bedroom, full bath with only bathtub in 2nd floor bathroom and full bath with shower in 1st/basement floor. we wanted to all be on one floor (our kids are 4 and 6) so we opted to stay on the 2nd floor where there is a private bedroom w/ queen bed and 2 twin beds adjacent to a TV sitting area (i.e. not private). However we used the main floor bathroom as it had a shower. Something to keep in mind if traveling with larger groups/extended family (lots of open space, not much private space as another reviewer commented on)
Overall, was a wonderful experience we will not soon forget. Norm was a lovely host and we enjoyed Carol's art throughout the home; it was a very warm and love filled atmosphere. would love to return w/ extended family and rent eagles wing and elk horn lodge for a longer visit. One of the first things the kids said when getting there was that they wished their cousins could be there too :-)
Would you recommend this vacation rental to a friend?

The Cabin was great! Carolina Mornings is horrible, however...

The cabin itself was absolutely amazing! However, upon arrival, the air was completely turned off and it took this large cabin quite a while to cool down, so the first couple hours were very uncomfortable. Also, the refrigerator was also in some sort of off or sleep mode because it was not cold, and it took a bit of time to figure out how to program so that it would be.
After checking out of the cabin and leaving, i was emailed a few days later by Carolina Mornings stating that there was a bear skin rug missing from the house. Upon checking with everyone that stayed in the cabin that weekend, it was confirmed that no one had taken the rug and a number of people actually saw the rug where it had originally laid. Nevertheless, Carolina Mornings, without notification to me, charged my credit card $300 for the "stolen" rug. I've emailed them numerously with some response success, but no explanation to a police report being filed or the integrity of the cleaning crew that is contracted.
All in all it was an enjoyable weekend. I will never rent through Carolina mornings again.

We had a wonderful time in the home. Everything was as shown in the pictures. We loved having breakfast and cocktails out on the deck enjoying the beautiful view. We cooked in two nights using the oven, stove, and grill. Everything worked and the home was well equpied. We will be back!
