“Big Enough for Everybody in a Lovely Village”
We were a family party of four adults and five kids of varying ages. The villa was large enough to swallow us all up and there is plenty of space in the garden for playing games. Two sets of balconies overlook the garden from two floors. Take some spare table tennis balls and maybe your own bats - the table itself is in excellent condition and there is also a table football game in the basement. Take sheets if you don't want to pay for their hire and some towels. The owners are lovely people but don't expect them to speak fluent English - we got by with mainly sign language and our bad French but we later got a visit from a nice man called Arnold (who speaks fluent English and lives nearby) to see if we were OK. Thanks Arnold. There was plenty of free wood for the purpose built BBQ and for the hearth indoors. The grill space on the BBQ is easily large enough to feed 10+ people. We were also allowed to pick as much lettuce as we needed from the plot to the rear of the house. There is a lovely little pub in the village about 100metres from the villa and a restaurant opposite it. On our last night there was some great music from a live jazz group at the restaurant and the hosts and locals made us very welcome. In this area you will need a car and there was ample private parking for our two vehicles. We thought that the house was very safe for young children as you could close off access to the balconies and there were plenty of safe places for them to play - also all of the five bedrooms are on one floor rather than being dotted around the villa and one of the bathrooms is on the same floor as the bedrooms. The grounds are gated and fenced with good privacy from the roadway. There is a small drying room in the basement for skiers and for summer use a washing line at the back of the garden complete with pegs. There are ample cupboards throughout the bedrooms and plenty of coat hangers and spare blankets and pillows should you require them. The house has central heating and a log burner in the large living room. All of the appliances listed by the owners are in place and work properly. There is a large larder fridge and a separate chest freezer so that it is possible to get all of your supplies for the holiday in one hit. There are some supermarkets not too far away but where possible we tried to use the shops in the village which sell local products. The butchers' shop, in particular, is probably the cleanest and most well equipped that I have ever seen anywhere in the world and is well worth a visit but don't walk too quickly or you may miss it as it has a small frontage. Most of the other tourists we met in the area were French and very friendly. As far as local attractions are concerned, and in addition to those listed by the owners, there is a canoe river expedition which is suitable for kids (accompanied by adults) within a couple of hours drive of the villa. More local (at 12 mins drive) and yet again of interest to the kids, is an outdoor swimming pool at Vic Sur Cere where we spent an enjoyable day laying about and swimming - it has got a small water slide and some pay pedal go carts outside plus a few unusual hydraulic swing things which are free. At the time of writing (2016) entry to the pool area is E4 for adults and E2 for kids. You can stay as long as you like and take a picnic but it does have a café if you prefer. For men and boys swimming shorts are not allowed and you have to wear 'budgie smugglers'. If you haven't got any they will lend you some but the sight of a 64 year old overweight man wearing a pair of trunks that I swear must have been made for Tom Thumb will surely make your grandkids think twice before they ever take accompany you on holiday again. Sorry this has gone on a bit long but these are some of the answers to questions we asked once we had arrived. Enjoy this lovely place and a safe journey to you all.

Response from the owner Thank you so much for all the compliments. Speaking of our small village, I've realized that the mountains in front of our house were whitch cached your eyes as you look about. No kidding, i know for sure you forgot to visit the tiny hamlet where Arnold lives “les Gardes” a little above our village ; and so you probably forgot to visit the water mill and the old oven in the middle of that village. Again thank you very much for your stay in our home and see you back soon. Jean Claude
