Additional Location Information

Maya Cala means Mayan Cove and so the Villa sits on its own private cove over looking the Laguna Bacalar known as the lake of seven colors , surrounded by green jungle. The peace and tranquility of this location are as incomparable as the magnificent view and colorful sunsets. The water is so clear and fresh it's like stepping into heaven.
There are nearby ruins for day-trips or a locally run zip-line to see the jungle from another angle. You can kayak on the calm azure waters or rent a boat in Bacalar and go bird-watching across the lake in the mangroves. On the other hand hanging about in a hammock with a book may be your entire day.
The tranquil lake is fed by underground springs and has all the turquoise color and beauty of the Caribbean sea but the clear water is far more refreshing and soothing.
A short drive away in Bacalar you can pick up supplies to prepare your meals in your fully equipped kitchen or you can go out to a great local restaurant with choices such as Mexican, Italian, German and Vegetarian. Another option is to purchase an entire barbecued chicken meal as take-out from one of the many roadside barbecue stands in town. Fresh local produce is abundant and freshly made tortillas abound.
Sightseeing In town may involve visiting the local 16th century Spanish Fort or
day trips can be taken to nearby ruins, the zip-line, the Sian Ka'an biosphere, or to the sea-side whether that be east to the Caribbean or south to Calderitas.
Then again Belize is only just across the border and bus tours leave from the city of Chetumal. Chetumal, the Capitol of Quintana Roo. is about 45 minutes away by car. Along with its lovely tree lined boulevards and ocean front drive it offers large supermarkets and a modern mall.
