The villa sits on on a private hilltop of 20+ acres (10 HA) surrounded by fields of lavender, olive trees, vegetable garden (guests are welcome to use), bee hives and vineyards, and all with panoramic views of Tuscan hill-towns and surrounding mountains, and protected national forests of chestnut and acacia. Additional Location Information

A vacation in Bagni di Lucca and the surrounding area provides an experience of 'Old Tuscany': a time prior to the advent of mass tourism and agribusiness. The area is famous for the production of artisanal cheeses, hams, porcini, oil, fruits and vegetables. The area produces good wine (Monte Carlo) and wineries can be visited for wine-tastings. It's a paradise for outdoor activities ----hiking and paragliding; white water rafting, horseback riding, biking tennis; skiing (Abetone is about 45 minutes away) are just some of the outdoor activities in the area. For those interested in the sea, it's close to the famous towns of Cinque Terre, and the beaches of Forte di Marmi and Viareggio. Carrara, and its marble quarries (from where Michelangelo obtained his marble) is nearby and can be visited. For history, art and architecture, there are numerous Tuscan hill-top villages and towns with Romanesque churches, and unique architectural and artistic features; there are archaeological sites, castles, monuments throughout the area. Pisa - with its Leaning Tower, and Cathedral is an hour away; Florence about 90 minutes and the Chianti region can visited on a day trip. Between the town of Lucca and our village are the famous grand villas and gardens dating from the early 19th Century, along with some excellent vineyards During the warmer months, the area towns host a variety are outdoor music, art & opera festivals, weekend 'festas' celebrating local cuisines and food specialties and Lucca has a summer rock festival. Pisa is under an hour , Florence about a 90 minute drive away. (The airports at Pisa and Florence provide convenient links to other European cities and some direct flights to the US during the summer months.) Lucca itself - with its amazing walls and car-free streets and piazzas - is a wonderful walled town, with galleries, museums, fashionable shops, a variety of musical events throughout the year, as well as sponsoring several special festivals - from comic books to olive oil.
