Additional Location Information

Pura Vida Cottage is located at the end of Green Cove Road, approximately 2 1/2 miles from downtown Bakersville, NC.
Green Cove Road is a quiet, state maintained, two-lane (1.5 miles) paved country road with relatively little traffic. Our community is that of a quaint mountain town, where Southern comfort abounds. There are generational family homes and farms along Green Cove Road. You will see a Christmas tree farm on your drive to the cottage. A little farther up the road, you may get to see one of the mama cows with her new born calf in the pasture. Watch out for the deer and wild turkey crossing the road, especially if you are driving at dusk or dawn. The split rail fence will let you know that you have arrived. Just turn right into the drive and you will be “home” for your vacation. Pura Vida Cottage and the “big” house are the last houses on Green Cove Road, nestled at the end of the paved road. You will find plenty of parking space for you and your guests. The drive from Bakersville is a lazy winding country road, easily accessible with ample parking space beside the cottage.

You will find a wide range of activities within a few minutes drive. Everything from biking, hiking, rock climbing, and kayaking to the Spruce Pine Country Club and Golf Course, fine restaurants, museums, and historical sites are nearby. Local artists are scattered throughout the community, creating everything from exquisite pottery and metal works, to one of a kind hand woven crafts, sculptures and more. Take a Studio Tour and visit the artists in their studios, watch them work thier magic, take home that special treasure that is just for you. The Cane Creek Artists invite you to join their Grand Opening Reception for their annual Artist Tour on June 20th. The Tour will run through the end of July. You are invited to visit them at their home studio, watch them create magnificant works of arts, chat and get to know them personally. You may even decide to purchase a unique piece of art to take home with you.

Western North Carolina is home to majestic mountains and magnificent people.
Part of the Appalachian Mountains that extend from Canada all the way down to Alabama, the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina are where the chain's loftiest peaks kiss the sky. The mountainous region is nestled in the western corner of the state, and is collectively known as "high country." The Blue Ridge Mountains are also home to a dazzling array of plants and wildlife. In fact, by some estimates, this small corner of North Carolina contains more ecological diversity than the entire European continent.

Major attractions in the Blue Ridge Mountains include:

-The Appalachian Trail: America's famous Appalachian Trail runs through the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering excellent hiking opportunities for nature lovers.

-The Blue Ridge Parkway: One of the most scenic drives in the United States, the Blue Ridge Parkway winds through the mountains.

-Great Smoky Mountains National Park: One of the best places for camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Great Smoky Mountains National Park spans the North Carolina-Tennessee border and frequently ranks as the most popular national park in the entire United States, drawing millions of visitors throughout the year. This Blue Ridge national park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features a carefully preserved ecological biosphere.

We will do our best to make sure you have everything you need for your vacation to be magical and memorable.
