Additional Location Information
Restaurants --a 3 minute walk down our path are 4 small local restaurants, all quite good. From our house you walk straight to the Yellow Flower Café, which does an excellent Balinese buffet every Sunday night, and serves breakfast, lunch & dinner every day; a little further down is LaLa Lillie, also a full menu, all day; close by is Ibu Putu who serves real traditional Balinese food at very low prices; and close to Lillies is Made’s Warung, also quite good.
A further walk into the town of Penestanan is the Vespa Café, which is quite popular with ex-pats and serves a more western menu. In another direction is a street with traffic and a quite a few cafes and restaurants including Alchemy, very popular with the Yoga/New Age crowd as it is a raw food restaurant. There are many more eateries of all types and prices, especially inUbud. We have a house book with recommendations.
Bintang Market--You may want to buy food or drink for yourself and luckily for us we are 5 minutes from the Bintang Supermarket, which has a pretty good selection of produce, dairy, juices and all the basics. [When you shop please bring your own tote bag so you do not have to use plastic—a big problem on Bali.] You can pick up a taxi in front of the store, and use one of the 5 ATM machines.
Yoga—Right past Yellow Flower is an excellent yoga studio, (website: hidden) owned and run by Linda Madani, one of the most respected teacher/healers in Ubud. In town there a number of yoga places with many classes all day long. Ubud also has many New Age classes and teachers of all kinds.
Spas—Well, what can we say about Bali and spas? There are so many places for massage and treatments of all types—more than you can imagine. Our neighborhood spa, Sedona, is very good and reasonably priced as is Putri Bali, a little further up the road. But we have brochures at the house for spas of all prices, so go ahead—pamper yourself!
Galleries, Museums, Shopping—Ubud has almost all of the Museums in Bali and many, many galleries—it is the art center of the Island; and shopping is just waiting for you—clothes, souvenirs and more! Take your time and walk, walk, walk.
Activities—There are many kinds of adventure activities for those so inclined and either us orMade’ can help you book. Try rafting, downhill cycling, early--morning climb of a volcano, hiking, et al. Ubud also offers lots of classes, like cooking, batik-making, paper-making, wood-carving, Balinese dance, mask carving and more!
One thing we love is the Herbal & Rice Field Walk followed by the making of herbal products.Fun, informative and very interesting!
Night Life—Not a lot of this in Ubud, but there is the Jazz Café featuring music and good food 6 nights a week; Bar Luna; Laughing Buddha and some clubs on Monkey Forest Road. This town closes up early.
In the house you will see our book with flyers, brochures, menus, maps, et al.
And—if you are interested in renting a motorbike, we know of a couple of places. Remember to wear a helmet!
We look forward to meeting you and hope you have a great stay!
