Description from owner

Description

The small village of Romaldkirk is home to two public house's, one next door and the other a minutes walk from Caroline Cottage one serving food to award winning standards and both offering fine ales.

Caroline Cottage has two bedrooms, the main bedroom is very large and over looks the pretty village green. The other bedroom has two twin beds with lovely views and a window seat. There is a separate dining room leading into the cosy lounge. The lounge has a comfortable sofa and two sofa chairs, TV with Chrome cast and a lovely log burning stove. There is also a fully fitted kitchen which then leads out to a secure back yard, with table and chairs.

Across the road from Caroline Cottage you will find the stunning church of St Romald better known as the "Cathedral of the Dales".

High Force is a spectacular sight. The River Tees suddenly drops 21 metres over the Whin Sill into a plunge pool below. High Force is situated in the North Pennines only 10 miles from Caroline Cottage.

It is also an ideal location to visit other great places including Bowes Museum, Raby Castle, Richmond, Barnard Castle, Durham and Hamsterley Forest.

Teesdale is a walkers and cyclists paradise with many of the walks starting from Romaldkirk.

So whether you want to spend your holiday sight seeing, walking, playing golf, fishing, cycling, pony riding, bargain hunting in the local markets, visiting local fetes or simply relaxing, snuggle up after a great day out in a warm cosy cottage in front of the log burning stove.

“Lovely cottage, beautiful village”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2022

Stayed during the record breaking heatwave and the thick stone walls were a godsend. Well equipped, comfortable and very clean. Lovely opening up the curtains each morning to the view over the village green. It’s a great location for walking and very nice meals in the local Rose and Crown pub.

“Cosy cottage in a delightful village”

Reviewed 4 Nov 2018

A lovely little cottage looking out over a large village green. The cottage was well presented and warm on a very cold week. The village is full of characterful stone cottages and church. There are a wide selection of footpaths including a disused railway. The pub next to the cottage was quiet and there is a hotel across the road which serves moderately priced but very nice meals. There are a number of castle and abbey ruins in the area including the nearby castle at Barnard Castle. Also worth visiting is the waterfall at High Force.
