Settled on a small hill, just off the old town Basseterre with fabulous views on the harbor and the caribbean sea, just a 3 min. walk away from the town beach and vegetable and fish market, lies the privately owned property Palms Court Gardens, surrounded by one acre lush, tropical gardens and a luxury infinity pool.
The property consists of the main house, housing the rooms of the owners, the kitchen for the restaurant and the Shell Works gift boutique, and an all wood cottage. The rental apartment is on the second floor of the cottage, offering the best view on the island and the historic town Basseterre, the harbor and the ocean with the neighboring island Nevis in the background.
Being on the top floor of the building, the apartment's ambiance profits from the open vaulted caribbean style wood ceiling with its visible beams. The decor is held in a luxurious, mediterranean 'shabby chic' style. A fully equipped kitchen with enclosed dining/living space, a spacious bathroom with walk in shower and separate toilet, a library, free Wi-Fi, a large air conditioned bedroom with one queen size and one single bed (enough space to put another bed for a family with 2 children) and a large flat screen TV, Bose radio/CD palyer, offers everything you look for in your home away from home.
Palms Court Gardens is privately owned. Until 2003 it belonged to the Royal Bank of Canada who had for many years their managers staying here. In 2003 it was sold to a local business man and his wife - an arts and crafts teacher from Switzerland. The property and gardens then were completely transformed into a mediterranean/ caribbean dream and opened to the public the first time in 2010. Although on a day with cruise ships in port, an average of 30 - 60 visitors are touring the garden and some also spend some time at the pool, the guests at the cottage still enjoy their full privacy, as the apartment is located on the second floor and out of the eye of the garden visitor.
The cottage was initially built for the family's own purposes; a design studio on the ground level and a one bedroom apartment on the second floor for their private guests. It is now offered for the first time for rent.
After the family purchased the property in 2003, a 7 year period followed of extensive restorations, re-landscaping, and adding a luxury infinity pool and the guest cottage. The family finally decided to share the beauty of the gardens and the stunning ocean, town and mountain views with the public. Carrying idea was to support the Children Educational Fund St.Kitts with the generated income. A special attraction at Palms Court Gardens is Shell Works
St.Kitts, with its production site and gift shop located between the guest cottage and main house. Jewelry, gift items and home accessories, all made from natural and local materials, are produced right on location and invite the visitor to watch and talk to the artisans.
Designed and restored for the private use, each inch throughout the garden, main house, patio and guest cottage is done with extraordinary style and class, and offering all the amenities your looking for your private home away from home.

I arranged this vacation for my husband to celebrate his new job. His words when we were warmly welcomed by the Palm Court Garden staff and owner was "Wow! This is so much more than I expected!" Pictures don't really do this property justice since there is so much to take enjoy on the grounds. As other reviews have commented... the pool is open to public for a fee until 5 pm. After that the staff leave and the pool and jacuzzi become yours! At night with the changing lights highlighting the infinity pool make for a magnificent experience. We enjoyed many a Caribe in the jacuzzi which was at just the right temperature for being able to sit for hours and talk. The cottage is very quaint. The constant breeze makes it feel very comfortable. The aC in the bedroom cools it down to sleep well in a very comfortable bed with a big screen TV to watch. Internet is slow, but heh you are on an island what do you expect? There is a huge wrap around deck on front that you can sit on to enjoy the view as well. Can't say we spent a lot of time inside. Oh... and the several bouquets of freshly cut flowers in the cottage were a really nice touch. At what hotel do you get that?
The grounds are a short walk to downtown, but there isn't much going on down there and not much to look at (in our opinion). We ended up taking taxis to many fun places. Kathy's for dinner is a must. Sprat Net's for Wednesday sunset followed by band and Shiggety Shack on Thursday night for band was very fun. We went on an aTV tour in a rainforest which we loved.
This was a great vacation and a great place to stay. Claudia and Ernest are extremely nice, fun and interesting people. Their staff are extremely thoughtful, friendly and courteous. You can tell they genuinely like working there. Thanks for allowing us to be able enjoy your paradise.

If there is one thing you do on your visit to St. Kitts, be sure to check out the Palms Court Gardens. This private villa boasts the island's most beautiful botanical gardens and offers the most relaxing retreat by the private pool. My husband and I had the good fortune of staying in the private cottage during our honeymoon and it was the single best decision we made of our entire trip. We enjoyed the daily visits from the locals and cruise tourists but then enjoyed the taste of private luxury of the pool and view to ourselves after 5 PM. The cottage's elegant plantation style and (literally) breathtaking views make this the single best place to stay on the island. Ernest, Claudia and their team ensure that all your needs are met and that you have the most wonderful, relaxing experience. We can't wait to come back and take advantage of this private retreat.

I found this gem on trip advisor when I was looking for a place to "decompress" for 31/2 days before I left for a week-long scuba diving adventure. Claudia, her family and all the staff were so hospitable and every person always had a smile and a kind word. They were so nice and accommodating that I feel I made new friends. The bright gardens and lawns were lavish and so well kept. The cottage was unbelievably quaint with eclectic pieces and fresh flowers from the gardens. The kitchen is huge and you can get all the fresh veggies and fish fixings from markets that are within walking distance. I didn't do any cooking though... the menu fare was perfect for me and I enjoyed the cocktails and didn't even want to venture anywhere. The bed was to-die-for comfortable. The shower/bathroom was big and roomy with plenty of linens, hot water and there was great water pressure. The deck overlooks the infinity pool and Zante Port. I chillaxed reading in a bed lounger between frequent dips in the awesome pool. The Shell Works was fantabulous. I was allowed to see the work shop and pieces of jewelry that were being created. The shop has absolutely gorgeous hand-tooled jewelry, assorted boxes, ornaments and many other beautiful works of art ... I got all my Christmas shopping done! Honestly ... 5 star rating is not enough for the enchantment at Palms Court Gardens. How much did I really like it? I booked a stay for next March and for February 2015, and I asked to be put on the top of the list for any cancellations!

The romantic cottage was awesome. My husband and I celebrated our anniversary there and it could not of been better. A whole mini resort to ourselves whats not to love. Not for everyone. My daughters love the big resorts with constant activity. That's not what we were looking for,we wanted to relax and spend time together and that's what we did. the cottage has everything you need and the grounds our beautiful we felt like we were in our own garden of Eden. The staff were helpful and very nice. They even remembered it was our anniversary and left fruit and wine for us. Paradise, Thank you so much. Plus Saint Kitts is amazing and go to Nevis too if you can for a day trip.

My husband and I were lucky enough to find this gem and just stayed here for a too short vacation. Today is our last day, and we are having a hard time to just to think about it, that we have to leave again tomorrow. It lived up to everything that was mentioned in the description and more. It was clean, beautifully and artistically furnished and decorated, and totally comfortable. I can honestly say there was nothing left out that a person might need for a couple week's stay in paradise. Claudia, Ernest and their wonderful staff were so accomodating and friendly, which just made the visit that much more enjoyable. I would recommend this venue to anyone without any reservations. We will be back next year!
The best tip we can give? Book well ahead!!

We stayed at Palm Court Gardens for 2 weeks. Daily, we woke at sunrise to the spectacular view of sailboats anchored in the Basseterre harbour. The east facing balcony provided for a beautiful sunrise over peninsula, with the harbour in the foreground. The balcony is partially shaded during the morning by a palm tree and fully shaded with a breeze during the late day heat. As a writer and lover of the outdoors, the balcony was the perfect setting and inspired me to write while there.
During our stay, we rented bicycles. They were our only form of transportation and provided for excursions to various beaches, towns and historical sites on St. Kitts. Twice we also ventured to Nevis via the ferry. There was no extra cost or inconvenience for taking the bicycles. Both islands were good for cycling with gentle terrain around their perimeters. The mainly English speaking residents were very friendly with greetings while passing on the street and helpful providing directions.
Palm Court Gardens staff members were friendly, courteous and helpful. The gardens and pool were beautiful, and the pool particular welcoming after a day out and about.
The apartment is well appointed and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Local grocery stores, produce market and other shops were within walking distance.

We like everything about Palms Court Gardens.
The "cottage" is a self-contained flat on the first floor of a Swiss-chalet type building, with a large terrace in front overlooking the swimming-pool area, Basseterre and Nevis in the background.
The gardens and swimming-pool are open to the public but this does not cause any nuisance at all, on the contrary it brings some animation
and anyway the place was just for ourselves before 9 a.m. and after
The location is good. You can walk into town or to nearby restaurants, but a car is recommended if you want to explore the island and discover the sand beaches which are on the other side of town.
We rented a car for two days and relaxed on the property for the other two days. It is really paradisiac !
What did we like least ? The wind, which cooled the air, but we would
have preferred to feel warmer on St.Kitts in January.

Where should I begin! The excellent location, the romantic apartment and beautiful gardens, the small empty beach 2mins walk and also close enough to amenities so as not to make visits to the supermarket etc a hassle. We arrived thinking we would need to hire a car, but access to local buses was a short walk away, making moving around the island a pleasurable experience, the local people were helpful and friendly and would probably not have been encountered had we not been using the local transport system, which is very cheap and frequent. There are no bus schedules, you just go and take the next one.
On arrival at the house we were met by the very friendly staff who showed us around and how everything worked, our holiday went without any hitches what so ever. We also quite enjoyed the people who came visiting the gardens and pool during the day. They brought such a happy vibe to the property and didn't bother us at all. If we wanted privacy, we got plenty of that in our apartment or balcony on the second floor. We will definitely be returning to Palms Court Gardens where we left part of our hearts!!!

We have been visiting St. Kitts for 15 years now. After staying at a wonderful hotel for 14 of those years, we have found Palms Court Gardens cottage to be the perfect vacation "home". This should give you a hint as to how we feel about this place and its owners. The amenities of the apartment are numerous. For example, having a washer and dryer is great and cuts down on the amount of clothing you must pack. The property is immaculate and perfectly maintained, the apartment the most gorgeous I have ever seen, and Claudia, Ernest and their staff are so very accommodating. We love the privacy upstairs in the apartment with the beautiful view of the sea, but it is also nice to have the company of other people at the pool, and the garden visitors didn't bother us in the least. I can't say enough about the location and views, just perfect! We are definitely looking forward to our return to this lovely vacation retreat next year!
