Named by the Sunday Times as one of Europe's finest holiday properties, and the only Cave House in their Top 50 'Sensational Villas' list!
The house has also been featured in the Guardian.
This original cave house is a fantastic grotto which has been sympathetically restored ,retaining as many of its original features as possible without compromising the standard of the modern facilities expected by todays holiday makers. The interior is furnished and decorated throughout in a rustic, Andalucian/Moroccan style creating a quirky, homely interior that we love. Full of natural character, charm and style, the house is great for families, and affordably priced. Staying here is a holiday experience to remember. To the front of the house is a shady, vine-covered patio and upstairs are two roof terraces ( one with dip tub - cold water supply only ) and both with stunning views. Special features include a tortoise garden with 8 tortoises, a miniature fairy grotto hidden within the walls of the interior, decorative mosaicing on walls & floors and many handcrafted, Moroccan fixtures, fittings and soft furnishings. The nature of cave houses is to provide natural insulation against noise and against the outside temperature, so it is always cool in summer ( no need for air conditioning ) and very easy to heat in winter. The cave house does have free WIFI, which we know is very important to many of our visitors.
Outside the front of the property is a very quiet, dead end road,so there is plenty of parking space for visitors.
The cave house is situated in the Cuevas del Cerrico (cave house quarters) above the traditional Spanish town of Baza. From the front, its elevated position affords fabulous views over the town to the countryside and mountains beyond; whilst the back of the property borders onto rural land, dotted with farmhouses and abandoned cave dwellings. .
Although the cave house quarter has all the advantages of a sleepy village, it is only a 10- minute walk from the bustling town centre. Here one can find a plethora of tapas bars, restaurants, shops and several decent sized supermarkets. There is an open air market every Wednesday and a car boot sale on Sundays. The nearest bar, grocery shop, bakery , green grocers and chemist is only a 5-minute walk away.
LAKE NEGRATIN with its thermal baths and lakeside restaurants, the gorge walk at CASTRIL, the town of GUADIX with its beautiful church and cave village and, of course, the historic city of GRANADA are just a few of the many places of interest in the Baza area.
Please note that the 2 roof terraces at the cave house are accessed by a set of loft ladders and my pose problems for guests with mobility problems and guests with young children.TripAdvisor property ID 3332700...Read more
Malutka Fairy's Cave House of Dreams Baza, Andalusia, Spain
Additional Location Information
Inland Baza and surrounding area is a traditionally Spanish haven, where the way of life still has one foot in the past. It's slow pace and rural atmosphere contrasting with its love of colourful fiesta ( festivals ) and ferias ( fairs ) makes this part of Spain the perfect location for a holiday that is both relaxing and culturally rich.
The immediate neighborhood is tranquil with stunning views across the outskirts of Baza below us to the hills beyond . To the rear of the property is a rural landscape, dotted with farm houses and abandoned cave dwellings, where little more than the sound of goat bells can be heard. Immediately outside the front of the property is a quiet, dead end road where there is plenty of parking for guests.Although we are situated on the edge of Baza, the bustling town centre is only a 10-minute walk away. The nearest bar, shop, bakery and chemist is only a 5-minute walk away.
LAKE NEGRATIN and thermal baths is only 20-minutes away by car. Here one can spend the day swimming in clear blue waters, breaking for lunch or simply drinks and tapas at one of the many lakeside restaurants. Don't forget that only this province ( Granada ) offers FREE tapas with every drink ! The gorge walk at CASTRIL is a 'must do', as is a visit to the outdoor market , old town and cave village at GUADIX. The historic city of GRANADA (120 kms from Baza ) simply cannot be missed. Visiting the famous Alhambra palace, the cathedral, the Albazin ( old Arab quarters ) and the many other places of interest in this magnificent city will more than fill one day. The wild west theme parks at TABERNAS offer a great fun day out for all the family. The dramatic scenery ( famously featured in many spaghetti westerns ) en route to Tabernas adds a truly special dimension to the day. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, there is pony trekking and bicycle hire in Baza, plus walks in the SIERRA DE BAZA NATIONAL PARK - a bird watcher's paradise. The seaside resorts of MOJACAR, AGUILLAS, PUERTO DE MAZARON and CARTAJENA are also only a day-trip away.
