Our house is powered by the sun! All aspects of it were designed to be ecological and beautiful at the same time. Your's are 1 or 2 bedrooms downstairs. Check with Airbnb on the "Garden's" availability if the "Vista's" calendar shows that it's full.
The "Vista" room was the original master bedroom before we built the one upstairs. It has a table and 2 chairs and have breakfast. If the other bedroom is occupied, the full-bath is shared with the other guests. If there are any "emergencies" the upstairs bath is available. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed, refrigerator, microwave oven and a coffee maker. Both bedrooms look over a canyon with lots of birds (A guest saw a Peregrine Falcon resting in the trees and we recently saw turkeys right outside the bedroom).
We don't have dogs or cats and we request that travelers do not have pets. We are sensitive to people's allergies.
The house is on the end of a cul-de-sac with nothing but "sand islands" next to it. Sand islands are protected area with 13 species of plants and animals which are endangered. The house is a haven for deer, many kinds of birds and other wildlife. Beautiful Loch Lomond is just a 15 minute drive away. Paddle boat, row boat, and canoe rentals, fishing for stocked trout and indigenous bass, picnicking, and hiking trails. Loch Lomond is open from March-September. There is the famous Roaring Camp Railroad attraction. Cowell Redwoods, Fall Creek and Big Basin Redwood parks are close (website hidden). Hermon Conference Center is 10 minutes from here (with it's ZIP line though the Redwoods) and Santa Cruz is 20 minutes' drive.
The house has a driveway you can park in. (Stay on the right side so we can get out of the garage!) You go up 5 stairs to get to the front door and down 3 stairs to get the part of the house which is yours.
Interaction with Guests
I'm around most of the time. Roger's office is at home. The layout of the house is such that if you want to have privacy and be by yourselves, you can. We are available for any directions or interaction as you may wish.
I request that you wait until 4:00 to check in (I may be out and around selling solar!) and be in by 10:00PM or so.
Santa Cruz is a 20 minute drive. Kayak rentals and tours go all around the bay. From town, it just a short hike to the Lime Kilns and University of California. Near the border of Scotts Valley and Santa Cruz lies the Mystery Spot, where the rules of gravity are seemingly altered..
And, speaking of Santa Cruz County: Locals know that the Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation is one of the oldest wine-growing regions in the United States. Family-owned wineries here produce stellar lots of pinot and chardonnay, and the area has been compared to a younger Napa Valley. Near here are Hallcrest, Zayante and Beauregard Vineyard. Twenty minutes south of Santa Cruz, in a temperate valley of redwoods and olive groves, the Corralitos Wine Trail winds its way to Alfaro Family Vineyards, owned by a former artisan bread maker, and Windy Oaks Winery, with views of Monterey Bay. At the top of the Santa Cruz Mountains, the Summit to Sea Wine Trail passes Loma Prieta, a vineyard that produces the rare pinotage grape, a more robust, thicker-skinned version of pinot. On Santa Cruz’s urban west side, oenophiles sip vino (email hidden)ly courtyard setting, with vineyard tasting rooms nearby.
The big, elegant sail boat sloop, the Chardonnay, has wine tasting with its coastal tours. It leaves from the Yacht Harbor in Santa Cruz. You can take the train from Roaring Camp all the way to the Beach Boardwalk for a day of fun rides, mini-golf, and sun. Nearby, the Felton Commons Park boasts the tallest covered bridge in the United States, (Guinness Book). In Felton town, Don Quixote's Mexican Restaurant features live entertainment every night. Italian and Chinese cuisine and pizza are also in town.
