"Up the mountain and back in time"
Historic Cabin at Gobblers' Knob, perched on a peaceful mountain top at the northern end of the Shenandoah Valley near Berkeley Springs, takes its name from the wild turkeys that roam on the property. This intimate and romantic vacation retreat is conveniently located 100 miles from Washington D.C. and Baltimore, MD; less than 200 miles from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, PA. The secluded cabin has been lovingly restored and meticulously preserved to its 1820's roots and is tastefully decorated with furnishings that reflect the historic charm of the period. Furnishings include antiques from the 1820 - 1840 period, but modern amenities have been added for comfort and convenience. Boasting a large front porch, the home begs for company to share its breathtaking view of the beautiful surrounding countryside. Gobblers' Knob has been featured in regional magazines, local newspapers, and on national television on the Home and Garden Network.
The two-story home provides delightful accommodations. The first floor includes a separate dining room with an immense wood burning stone fireplace and a living room with a full-sized sleeper sofa. For your convenience, there is also a washer and dryer in the first-floor mudroom. Wireless Internet Access.
Your favorite pastime in the summer could be relaxing in the hammock in the woods or on the swing on the front porch; watching deer, raccoons, foxes, rabbits, ground hogs, turkeys, an occasional black bear, a variety of birds, and other wildlife; or enjoying a meal at the picnic table in the woods. The fireplace beckons on crisp fall evenings and winter days. Picture yourself rocking to your heart's content in front of the huge fireplace in the keeping room with a bowl of popcorn and a complimentary cup of hot chocolate. On rainy days you might enjoy choosing a book from the bookshelves to read while you listen to the rain pattering on the tin roof.

Cacapon Resort State Park is five minutes away for hiking, sight-seeing, horseback riding, boating, swimming, fishing, tennis, nature walks, and golf at the Robert Trent Jones Championship Golf Course. The kids and I decided what we wanted most to give my husband for his 40th birthday was uninterrupted time. We spent the weekend playing games, talking about times gone by and exploring Berkeley Springs. Sylvia even let me go up early and decorate the cabin for his surprise. Everything was ready for our arrival. Gobbler's Knob truly is a treasure that we will be sure to revisit!

My husband and I got away for a weekend without the kids, and this was the perfect place to stay. Our hosts were thoughtful, left us a bottle of wine and fire in the fireplace for our birthday celebration, but also kept their distance so that we felt like we were in our own home in the woods. The location is remote enough to feel peaceful, to see amazing stars at night, to sit on the porch swing and enjoy the view, but still convenient enough to various places. We hiked at nearby state parks and on trails through the mountains. We shopped, dined out, and went to the movies in the vibrant nearby town of Berkeley Springs, not to mention spoiling ourselves at a spa in town. The cabin served as a great home base - we could relax in one of the two cozy living room spaces - one with a huge fireplace - or in the clean, spacious whirlpool. We sipped our wine on the porch swing overlooking the woods, and bundled up at night to look at the moon and stars. The cabin itself was clean, well-furnished, and comfortable. The kitchen had plenty of dishes and appliances, and the sheets and towels were soft.

My husband and I spent our anniversary (July 2013) at Gobblers' Knob. The experience was everything we had hoped for and more. The gracious and friendly owners went out of their way to accommodate our schedules and needs. The cabin - as we learned from the photos and articles included in the ample supply of reading materials - has been beautifully restored, inside and out, and updated with modern conveniences that fit tastefully with the original structure. We especially enjoyed relaxing in the backyard hammock during the day, and watching the stars from there at night. It is just a short ride from the cabin to the town of Berkeley Springs, the spas, and Cacapon State Park. We highly recommend Gobblers' Knob, and think it is an ideal spot for exploring the natural beauty of West Virginia.
