Additional Location Information

The Berlin Artist Apartment is situated in a pre-war apartment building in the heart Berlin’s Friedrichshain district, east of Alexanderplatz. It is perhaps the last resort for Berlin’s famous alternative subculture. The streets culture is colourful and vibrant: Left over artist squats merge with imposing monumental Stalin-era buildings. Late-nineteenth century apartment buildings, galleries, alternative bars, clubs and cafes permeate the streets. Simon Dach Strasse is a popular spot with students, artists, young families as well as young Berliners.

The front of the apartment building has a liquor and convenience shop, a fantastic bakery, café and icecream shop. Nearby Boxhagener platz hosts the fantastic farmers market on Wednesday and Saturday, and the famous flea market on the Sunday. There are a range of supermarkets nearby.

Many more cultural, sporting and shopping options are also within walking or cycling distance. Not far from here is the “East Side Gallery”, the largest remaining section of the wall, saved by artists who’ve turned it into a canvas for their work. Also, the 02 stadium is just a walk away, as is Berlin's most famous bars and nightclubs - It’s also home to Berghain – possibly the world’s most important techno club – and a place where the party, once it starts, never really stops. So if you’re here for the nightlife, you really couldn’t pick a better place. Although the streets are lively, the apartment is a quiet retreat.

Tram lines, bus routes, underground station (U-bahn – U5, U1) and overground station (S5,S7) are a five minute walk from the apartment. Alexanderplatz is about five minutes by train or a 10 minute bike ride. Nearby public transport connections mean that favourites such as Berlin’s TV tower, shopping in Hackescher Markt or the Reichstag and Brandenburg gate are 15 minutes away.
