THIS IS A UNIQUE PROPERTY, 1 MILE ON A HARD PACKED DIRT ROAD, IN A VERY PRIVATE SETTING. PLEASE READ ENTIRE DESCRIPTION BEFORE INQUIRING. WE TAKE STRONG EFFORTS TO NOT DISTURB OUR NEIGHBORS. THANKS FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING. No smoking and no pets, please.
These two captivating one bedroom cottages of 400 square feet each are built of local materials and nestled in the oaks above our farm. THIS IS A NO SMOKING PROPERTY!
June, July and August we have a THREE NIGHT MINIMUM.
This destination is for the adventurous traveler! Our farm and cottages are located 12 miles south of Carmel, California off scenic Highway One, two miles from the coast on a paved road and one mile on a good all year round , bumpy in places , steep in others, dirt road. Upon leaving the coastal highway the anticipation builds as you drive through a gorgeous old growth redwood canyon, then leave the pavement for the last short mile on the hard packed dirt road, and suddenly arrive to experience the wonders of Country Flat Farm. We STRONGLY recommend an all wheel drive vehicle for your comfort. as 2 wheel drives chew up our road and distress the neighbors. In winter (November through March) we are now REQUIRING an all wheel drive. If you are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with driving on a non paved surface please consider this before booking. All visitors are met by the owners on the paved road, shown how to drive the road, and guided to the cottages upon first arriving.
The cottages are furnished with "country charm". Lush towels and individual bathrobes await you. The beds feature brand new queen mattresses crafted by a local company. Allergy free comforters warm you as you snuggle under tastefully chosen sheets and quilts. We have the latest high-tech fireplace heaters that look like a wood burning stove without the hassle. We recently installed beautiful new bamboo floors for the comfort of our guests. There is no tv, phone, or cell phone service, so please plan accordingly. There is, however, internet access so that you may use your computer to communicate with the outside world if necessary. People find that they can skype from the cottages if they have that capability on their computers. If you wish to watch movies we ask that you bring DVD's with you rather than download them from the internet. The kitchens have a stove, refrigerator, toaster, dishes, cutlery, glasses, dishtowels, pots and pans, coffee maker, and tea kettle. All you need to bring is your own food and drink. The owners are beekeepers, so fresh sage honey is available during your stay!(Se habla espanol.)Please visit us online at countryflatfarm....Read more

My son Jeff and I just returned from our stay and it was great. Loved the cabin, views from the front windows was phenomenal and appreciated the fully stocked kitchen. Loved the remoteness, just added to the experience. Also, the home grown honey was to die for, comes from their own bees. We will be returning next year. Thanks Janie for making it a vacation we won't forget.

My husband and I were so happy we decided to stay here for the weekend. We were unsure because of the how long it might take on the road as described in the review. But it was worth every minute, the drive and the destination. The farm is unbelievably beautiful and peaceful. Nice for walking in the lemon orchard, watching the fog and sunset from the cottage window, and very accessible to the coastal hikes we did. We loved fresh eggs and fresh kale for breakfast, along with the homemade honey we were gifted with from our host. The cottage is simple and efficient, lacking nothing, though, for comfort and housekeeping. Because of the location (not near a store) plan ahead if you want to cook. For us that was a bonus! We hope we can come back. Janie and Peter were fabulous hosts. We've mentioned their property to friends several times, but I have been delayed in getting this review in. After I saw a disappointed post I wanted to make sure I took the time to get mine in. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely cottage.

Review #5312186 Renewing
My husband and I needed a place to unwind where he could hike and I could be close enough to civilization if needed! Country Flat Farms was the perfect location and setting. You feel as though you are miles away from everything, but even once at the cabin are only 15 minutes from Highway 1. One day we walked around Point Lobos and Carmel, another day we just stayed at the cabin and took the walk to the waterfall, and another day took a great hike around andrew Molera. While in Carmel we went to Lush and got some wonderful bath bombs to fully take advantage of the bathtub! We left reconnected with each other, as well as all that is important and what replenishes us. I can't say enough about how magical this property is and its owners are. For those that can't completely disconnect, like me, the wireless connection is fantastic and they have a docking station for an iPhone where you can play music. We have a Honda Fit and got around on the dirt road just fine. Thank you Janie, Peter and Bella!

Oh we were so sad to leave, our stay at Country Flat Farm was so replenishing, a perfect getaway in a place we hope to return to again and again. The cabin was so clearly built and furnished with so much care and love, with very luxurious details that are still so simple and cozy, such as the way the light comes into the clawfoot tub to the locally made organic bath products and lush towels. The honey and lemons from the farm, super kind and welcoming people (and Bella the dog!), gorgeous views out every window, a perfectly equipped kitchen, super comfy bed in a nest nook with ocean view, and heat from the gas fireplace... We loved it all and can't wait to come back. The farm and house are right there if you need anything, but the cabins are set away and feel quite private. Two nights was not enough, we could have stayed forever. But in just that short time this place and it's peaceful beauty takes you away. I cannot recommend Janie and Peter and Country Flat enough, although I'm hesitant... I wouldn't want it to be all booked when we want to return!! Thank you, Janie and Peter. What a slice of heaven. Thank you for sharing your beautiful land and home with us!

A perfect choice for anyone traveling through the Big Sur area. The owners are very friendly and accommodating, and the cottages are exactly as advertised: beautifully designed, nicely appointed and immaculately clean. There's an easy walk through the redwood forest surrounding the property that's as beautiful as anything in the nearby state parks, and you'll have it all to yourself. The lovely farm itself was fun to explore and photograph as well. Country Flat Farms is a unique and inspiring place to spend some time. And you might feel (as I did) good about supporting an enterprise that's ecologically responsible. I'll add that I had no problem getting up the dirt road (in good weather) with my run of the mill 2WD rental sedan.

My husband and I had a lovely couple of days in our cottage recovering from a busy year, doing a few walks in the wilderness and generally taking is easy. Our cottage was just perfect - from the homely fire to the dramatic view across the Pasific. We shall remember our time there with great fondness.

My husband and I felt so lucky to spend a few nights at this beautiful farm. From the moment we turned off Hwy 1 onto Palo Colorado, we knew we weren't in New York City anymore. Driving through the magical redwood valley and climbing through the treetops up the steep mountain road towards the sun and sky, let us know that we had chosen the ideal place to celebrate our anniversary. Peter welcomed us and showed us the well-sited beautifully designed spotless cabin, set off by gracious and thoughtful appointments including home-grown honey, fragrant flowers and a drop-dead view from every window. We hiked down among the big trees, explored the orchards, picked a few apples and lemons and breathed in the sweet air -- a mix of sea, sage and forest. We cooked all our meals in a well-provisioned kitchen and watched the sun set over the ocean. We explored Big Sur for a few days but the highlight was returning each afternoon to the farm and to our little roost. Janie and Peter are so generous to share such a place with the rest of us. Country Flat Farm will live in our memory as one of the most perfect places and we can't wait to return. P.S. Take some extra honey home with you! We eat it for breakfast every morning and dream of our time in Big Sur...

The house at country flat farm was such a wonderful place to stay. The Eichorn family were our gracious hosts. The accommodations were clean, comfortable and tasteful. The land is beautiful, the area is great for hikes and exploring. Delicious honey and meyer lemons from the farm were complimentary and delicious. The cabin is solar powered and we had plenty of light/hot water on demand. The view of the ocean is amazing. I definitely hope to return.

The drive took us to this beautiful spot on the California Coast, and we would do it again! We so enjoyed our 4 days at the cabin, the wonderful landscape, the stillness during the day and the chorus of crickets at night. We had lunch on the deck, walked the trail, watched the sun set and the fog roll in, fed the chickens, gave treats to Bella, enjoyed the Honey (bought more to take home), and one of the days had lunch at Nepenthe with a fantastic view over the coast line. A perfect break on a long trip. Thank you Janie and Peter
Unique and the highlight of our 1 week stay in California

How delightful and unique it was to stay on a mountain farm, in a charming and new cabin with gracious, generous and helpful hosts. Janie and Peter were lovely people. But the best part of all was the mature redwood forest we hiked in only 10 minutes away, and the view of the Pacific out of the big window . What a way to see a sunset or greet a morning.

We were so honored to spend a weekend in one of these wonderful cottages as the first guests! Janie and Peter put so much love and care into their place--the basket of lemons and pears picked from the orchard, the organic coffee and teas, the fireplace, the wonderful robes, and the incredible view over the treetops to the ocean. They are truly kind and joyful people who have created an absolute escape in which ocean meets redwoods meets farmland and chickens. We had a blast picking produce from their veggie garden for our home-cooked meal, and sitting on the porch at the end of the day to watch the sunset. It's close enough to the Big Sur state parks to take advantage, and far enough away to escape the crowds. The one caveat is that it's a process to get there, along windy windy dirt roads. We arrived after dark and so "check-in" was tough! But Janie was an incredible and patient guide to us. After the first time, you get the hang of it and it's part of the fun, but be prepared for the trek it takes to get to this heavenly spot.
