“A great Spring Skiing Getaway in the middle of January!!” My family and friends had a wonderful stay this past weekend at Mr. Wiedemann's beautiful home located just a short walk off the "Hwy 33" ski run under the Bullet Express Chair (had there been fresh snow on the roads we could have skied in/out). We only had 6 people in our group consisting of 4 University students plus my wife and I, but the home could easily have handled more. The extra elbow room made it that much cozier for us anyway with great spots to quietly sit and study in front of the fireplace or loft, or to accommodate the whole gang for a boisterous sit down feast of slow cooked chilli after a post ski day soak in the hot tub. The Wiedemann's were gracious enough to leave a nice welcoming gift which was a surprising wonderful touch. I would strongly recommend anyone looking for a well cared for place to stay for a ski vacation to consider this location. The Goddard clan.

About Big White
Just outside of Kelowna is Big White Mountain. It has the highest point in the Okanagan Highland and one day in 1963, one clever guy decided to open the Big White Ski Resort on it.
Luckily for winter-sports fans, it's grown a bit since then. No longer is it just one T-bar lift, there are 16 chairs, gondolas and Ts for you to choose from.
There are 118 runs to try while you're at Big White. There's not much for beginners, but there's plenty if you know your way around a red slope! Intermediates will find plenty to do here.
If you're being dragged along by your friends, but have never skied or snowboarded before, don't worry. There's over 200 qualified instructors at this resort, so they'll be able to get you down the mountain (or to the bar) without any trouble at all.
What to do
The downhill and backcountry skiing is out of this world and the deep gullies mean snowboarders are in for an excellent time, too.
There are plenty of opportunities to indulge in some apres ski fun – bars, restaurants and pubs line the mountains.
If you want a day off from the slopes, take the family out on a snowmobile tour, or, even better, try dog sledding! It's great fun – especially if you've left your own pooch at home!
Try ice skating at the Olympic sized outdoor rink, and take your camera as the views are fantastic!
If you haven't tried it before, go night skiing. One section of Big White is western Canada's largest night skiing area, so there's no better place to try it.

Take advantage of the shopping shuttles to Kelowna for groceries, souvenirs and more. There are tours of the famous wineries too, so don't miss out!
Big White is host to lots of family-themed events, so find out what's going on during your stay by going to the local visitor center – they may even be able to get you a discount!
It sounds obvious, but it's cold up in the mountains so bring plenty of thermals and sweaters.
Your waiters and waitresses will expect a tip. 10-15% is fine.
